Just Dance sequel on the way

Win the chance to star in it.

Ubisoft has revealed that a sequel to Wii exclusive Just Dance is on the way.

The news comes via the game's Facebook page, where there's a competition to "win the chance to star in the next Just Dance game".

Auditions are set to be held at "a secret central London location" on 29th May. A panel of judges, including Ashley Banjo of dance troupe Diversity, will choose the winner.

Ubi has yet to make an official announcement about Just Dance 2 and there's no word on a release date, but still. See you on the 29th.

Natal / Move support on the way!

They've fallen into the trap, the sequels to these types of games never ever sell as well as the original, and they tend to completely kill the first game at the same time as well.

SingStar has a tenuous link to Just Dance, Rock Band and Guitar Hero do not, at least in terms of who they are selling to. Anyone will buy a Rock Band or Guitar Hero game, be they 'hardcore' or 'casual' or whatever term you want to label people as. Just Dance is much more 'casual' oriented, and the games that lean more heavily in that direction have failed to produce equally successful sequels at the same time as killing the momentum of the first game at around the 3million mark (for example, Deca Sports and Carnival Games both experienced this). This is quite simply because they are happy enough with the first game.

Incidentally, Just Dance is approaching that mark just as they announce the sequel...

EDIT: I should point out, Just Dance 2 being made available for Move and Natal would obviously negate this...

I was thinking more in terms of high selling music games than whether something is casual or hardcore, though I take your point.

However, Just Dance differs from your examples a little bit methinks for two reasons.

    1. The marketing around Just Dance has been very strong and very mainstream, and the sequel will get even more of the same.
    2. People that play music games are always hungry for new content, most so in the early years of adoption. However happy the existing users of Just Dance are, they will always want new tunes to dance to. With no store, the 30 (or whatever it is) songs on the first disc aren't going to stretch that far).

    And finally...

"SingStar has a tenuous link to Just Dance"

I disagree completely and utterly, or I misunderstand your point. Regardless of the similarities and differences in gameplay, I would say the typical fanbase of the two games is as good as identical, the only practical difference being the platform on which the two games exist.

Please etll your employers that nobody here clicks on your links. None of us are that dense. You are wasting your time and your employers' money.

@Kangarootoo... I should have explained that more. SingStar is one of Sony's major 'casual' IPs, and along with others like Buzz, it has been the focus of their efforts to attract a mainstream audience, in that sense it's more akin to a Wii Fit or Wii Sports in terms of importance, even if it doesn't reach the sales levels of those two, whilst still selling to the same kind of audience as Just Dance. Just Dance doesn't have that level of importance.

I'm not sure you know. I think the sucess of Just Dance probably took Ubi by surprise, and I would imagine riight now that it is being treated as Ubi's major casual IP.

Take a look at this and tell me that aren't pushing it the same direction as SingStar.

Perhaps, to preserve Ellie's sanity, Eurogamer should hold a, 'Win the chance to review Just Dance 2!' competition...?
