Just Cause 2 demo dated, detailed

"35 square miles" of sandbox.

Update: Panau Island now reports that the demo will be released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next Thursday, 4th March.

Original story: The forthcoming Just Cause 2 demo promises a huge sandbox of trial gameplay including pretty much all Rico's abilities and stunts.

That's according to Square Enix community manager Mike Oldman, who told fan site Panau Island that the demo includes "approximately 35 square miles of sandy desert, featuring towns and settlements, military bases, runways (and planes) and plenty more".

"The demo will give you a pretty good snapshot of what the final game has to offer," Oldman said. "So in terms of Rico's abilities and the crazy stunts he can pull off - it's all in there.

"There's also one whole multi-stage faction mission for you to try, a race challenge and ample opportunities to cause chaos at pretty much every turn. There's a good mix of vehicles, everything from tuk tuks to planes, helicopters to jeeps, military and civilian.

"We really want you to play it again and again, to try out as much as you can. If you don't fancy tackling the mission for example, don't. See if we care. You'll easily find something else to keep you occupied."

The demo has yet to be dated, but the full game is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 26th March.

Check out our Just Cause 2 page for a series of previews, and look out for more on the game next week.

Sounds good. Enjoyed the first game even though it got a bit repetitive after a while.

Awesome with a demo - always great with demos in sandbox environments!
I just can't decide whether to pick this up on PC, Xbox og PS3!

I seem to remember spending ages mucking around in the first Just Cause demo.

Quality nice. Can't wait for the full version though, just hope I've managed to finish Darksiders by then.

After the huge Darksiders demo, devs seem to be giving us a lot more in demo's these days. Good on them. I'm going to get Darksiders after getting a really good feel for the game from the demo. I wouldn't have gone for it if it weren't for that.

I'm looking forward to Just Cause 2, but with all the other games due in March - FFXIII, BFBC2 to name just two - I'm going to have to be selective. Maybe this big demo will convince me.

I just hope its not a timed 10 minute demo.

I hope it's actually smalled this time around. the originals map was just too big.
  • Chazmeister #11 2 years ago

But will the demo be timed like the demo for the first game was? The demo for the first game was big but it only gave you about 6-10 minutes play time in it.

Not that I'm that bothered to be honest as I'll be buying it anyway. Really enjoyed the first one, so really looking forward to this, I just hope the cars handle a hell of a lot better this time round.
  • bratmandu #12 2 years ago

Yea hopefully not timed - the demo for the first game only let you play for 10 mins if i remember correctly.

@Mkwone: Too large is not enough when it comes to game worlds!!
  • Dougz_G #14 2 years ago

i don't think it'll be timed, why would they say:

"We really want you to play it again and again, to try out as much as you can"

if that's the case then that's awesome, gunna play this demo to death! :D

to think some publishers argue you cant do open world demos, good on squenix. My only worry at this stage is the IQ on the console versions, in some of the videos i could see a motion blur technique being used which seemed to be smearing the image slightly, but it might be the compression on the video?

At last, I can make my dream of flying tuk tuks a reality.

Yeah, sounds like a great demo. Not sure if it's that great for them though, because you seem to be able to do so much ,it might not be new enough anymore to buy it at release.

I take from that it will be timed, else you just keep on playing it, not again and again.

Never got the first one despite loving the demo, as the gunplay just felt far too loose with no weight behind it, but the flying arround and everythign else was lovely. It really had that feal that whilst the first was flawed, the sequal would be great.

Fingers crossed it as good as the potential suggests.
