June SSB date "a mistake", says Nintendo

Official website gets it wrong.

Nintendo has dismissed suggestions a 1st June date has been set for the UK release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl - despite said suggestions having appeared on the company's own website.

As reported by CVG, the SSBB gamepage on Nintendo UK's site yesterday gave a date of "01/06/2008". It's since been amended and now simply reads "2008".

Eurogamer contacted Nintendo to find out if this represented an accidental revelation of TRUTH or it was all just a big mistake.

"June 1st is a Sunday," a spokesperson wisely pointed out. "So yes, most likely a mistake."

Ah well. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is out now in Japan and (spoilers, mind) lots of new details about the game have already emerged. There are also plenty of videos to check out on the gamepage.

Well i tell you what if the Nintendo is still as popular again next Christmas mine will be the first on Ebay for sale at rediculous amounts.

Put up with this shit on the N64 and the Gamecube. If there going to be so shit about conversions they should of at least had the balls to make the console region free.

    Dicks!

    /Rant off

EG when you contacted them, did you ask when it WOULD be out, if 1st June is not the release date?
  • Eighthours #6 4 years ago

Too early, obviously. The real date is probably October!

Nintendo Europe is a pathetic joke really isn't it.
  • gingerlink #8 4 years ago

ok, indignant e-mail made slightly more forceful by limited press abilities coming your way NOE!
  • FooAtari #9 4 years ago

So whos fault is this? NoE or NoJ?
  • DonnieDarko333 #10 4 years ago

I've kinda given up on NOE now, sure i'll still buy some of there games (there mainly amazing afterall) but i will never forget the way we are treated.

They certainly don't deserve the success there getting here in Europe, but like i said before, it's all casual gamers buying the Wii who have no-idea we're being shafted.

It's the true Nintendo fans in Europe whos missing out.

    Aye NOE suck hard!!!
  • HyperShadow #12 4 years ago

It was meant to say 1st June 2009.

Nintendo has no idea what to do, even if it is the most popular console so far this gen.
  • jonsaan #13 4 years ago

June 6th then. That's the Friday.

    Cunts.
  • JonFE #14 4 years ago

I really hope this is sooner than later... Hopefully long before Xmas 2008 ;o

I still can't bring myself to slag off NOE after Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Any company that would bring over a (brilliant) game like that, despite it never having been released in the US and being obviously doomed to commercial failure, and keep its utterly ridiculous Japanese name, gets my respect. (and the same goes for Kuru Kuru Kururin for that matter). Now if they'd just get off their arses and give us the Band Bros release we were promised so many years ago, I might even forgive them for the whole Wario Ware Twisted fiasco.

Translation - "whenever we fucking feel like it."
  • Muddtallica #17 4 years ago

Well, of course it's a mistake; June 1st would actually be COMMITTING to providing a service, and that's not what NoE are about.

Honestly, it simply is not worth putting any faith in Nintendo of Europe ever again. Things aren't as bad as they were in the SNES days (remember how we never got Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger OR Final Fantasy VI), but they couldn't possibly be, really; problem is they're hardly THAT much better. Tingle was a nice touch, but that was the exception, not the rule; and as far as I'm concerned, there can be no excuses, no forgiving and no forgetting the absolute debacle that is WarioWare: Twisted's disappearance...

How about giving us a real date, Nintendo? You know, instead of laughing at us for thinking the game would arrive in Europe before November.

Maybe my decision to buy a European Wii was a mistake.

I'm sick to death with the Nintendo 'We love Japan and North America' guff we get from them. They give release dates for both territories then don't say anything at all about Europe until months later when or even if they release any given title. Granted they have been a little better in recent times with Zelda: The Minish Cap arriving in Europe ahead of the US by 3 months, release Mario Strikers Football 4 months earlier than the US and Super Mario Galaxy coming out in Europe and the US at the same time. But ultimately they seem to like dumping on Europe from a great height especially with regard to SSBB.

What we need from NoE is to be more forthcoming about their plans for the territory. I think NoE never forgave us for how we ignored the NES all those years ago. That is why we get games 18 months after they are released in other territories. Anyone remember how long Metroid Prime Pinball took to arrive over here? I'll tell you how long, TWENTY MONTHS. Yes that's right, TWENTY. No excuse was given, they just didn't release it here for a very long time. NoE: Please DIE. K' thanks.

Twisted was never released because of the mercury in the cart no? Not really Ninty's fault?
  • Artemus #21 4 years ago

    Remember. Europeans don't mind waiting!
  • DonnieDarko333 #22 4 years ago

Buy a US Wii, thats what i've done! and move to Canada or something! It's shite in UK anyway!
  • Nikanoru #23 4 years ago

I don't see why you people are kicking Nintendo over this specifically. It happens with everyone. I lost count of the number of Playstation (2) RPG's that I've wanted to play but never even fucking came out over here.

Oh wait. I know. You're a bunch of whiny british fanboys, that's why. :D
  • Sl1pstream #24 4 years ago

RPGs need a lot of translation, especially if they're Japanese. If you're talking about Atlus games, it's hard to find a publisher willing to invest in those, even though they're great games.

Nintendo on the other hand is huge. Their games (namely this one and because someone mentioned it, especially Metroid Pinball) don't need localization, which seems to be Nintendo's excuse. They also have the money to speed up the localization process by hiring more people to do that, which they don't seem to be doing.

"Buy a US Wii, thats what i've done! and move to Canada or something! It's shite in UK anyway!"

Yep, I bought a US cube and it was a great decision, cheaper games (even including shipping) several months in advance of the European release.

I don't know what the hell went wrong with me that caused me to buy a European Wii, I can only assume it was some kind of trauma to an important part of the brain. Still, not too late.

I've been to both and Canada is better than the UK too. ;)
  • Sl1pstream #26 4 years ago

So I've decided to pick up a US Wii when I visit Austin, Texas this April. I really hope I can find them. I'll give my current Wii to my little sister as a birthday present then.
  • Nikanoru #27 4 years ago

Alright I should have said "games" then, it still goes. This is purely bullshit trolling by butthurt PS3 fanboys. At least, that's the distinct impression that I seem to get, forgive me if anyone here is somehow a real Nintendo fan who seems under the illusion that this company is the only one left cold by our little corner of the globe.
