Joker exclusive to Arkham Asylum PS3

Eidos has confirmed that The Joker will be an exclusive playable character in the PS3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

He'll be free to download from the PlayStation Store, but will only be playable on the Challenge Maps.

Eidos was unable to tell us what treat may or may not await Xbox 360 owners in response. But we'll let you know what we hear.

That's Batman Asylum, then: a superhero game that might finally live up to its licence. Our recent hands-on impressions can tell you why.

    Nightwing! Give us Nightwing! Go on, you know you want to! And it makes loads more sense thematically too, as Gearskin's right, the Joker can't crawl through the rafters and swing off gargoyles.

    Anyway: this is quite cool. I like little exclusives on different platforms. Although I also reckon eventually it'll find its way to 360 as a paid-for download.

    I hope the 360 character is farticus, who periodically says comments like "Isn't this so much better than the PS3 version?" and "The frame rate drops in this bit on the PS3 version".

    I would so buy a 360 with Batman: AA if that was the case.

    Reskinning the player as an existing character from the game for a specific game mode is not exactly the Lost and Damned...

    If the PS3 wants to willy wave its DLC/exclusives it needs to start thinking more along the lines of Bioshock and not the Force Unleashed...

    Hmm I'm not sure I want to play as Joker, unless he has his own special moves. Killer Croc or Bane might be interesting, if they also had their respective abilities. Nightwing would be awesome too.

    The PS3 would actually be a fantastic games machine if it wasnt for the way cheaper and better 360 making the PS3 look bad in comparison. Without the 360 on the market the PS3 would have been looked at in a totally different way.

    On topic: Im really looking forward to this game with or without a playable Joker.

    This does look like a good game you're right. Sneaked in under the radar until recently! Quite a few good games coming out soon so my wallet's bracing for the inetivable splash out on games!

    Xbox owners will probably get Nightwing, Two-Face, Riddler, Bane, Harley or some other cool character.

    PC owners will get Egghead, Crazy Quilt or Killer Moth.

    Yeah, it would take an otherwise believable and realistic situation and reduce it to complete farse ;)

    I tend to file that sort of thing either under "a bit of fun" or "one for the fans". Something to add a bit of value after your first playthrough perhaps?


    Anyway, I think there is a more important underlying issue here, and that is your assertion that something "looking really stupid" is a bad thing. This is perilous stuff and risks eating into the sense of childish fun that none of us should ever let go of. I order you to buy a ridiculous pair of trousers right now!


    Unless, like me so often in the past, you already own many pairs but just didn't realise it :(

    Reduced framerate and/or resolution
    Removal of pesky AA
    Reduced DLC support due to projected poor sales

    I think youve wrong about him being misinformed as this is actually usually the case. See Face Offs on this very site for more info.

    No matter how you want to see it. Farticus comment is funny either way. If you feel insulted by hes comment its because you only have a PS3 and know deep inside he might be right. Btw he is.

    Another "exclusive" that will undoubtedly turn up on the 360 just as surely as the 360 version will have an "exclusive" [Robin, Nightwing, Azreal, Red Robin etc.] that will be available on the PS3... for a price.

    If it's just another "skin" for the main character, ala The Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia etc. then I dare say I'd try the character briefly before switching it back.

    However, if they made the gameplay different for the Joker, AND if indeed it turned out to be a 100% PS3 exclusive then maybe... just maybe, I'd be tempted to get the PS3 version over the 360 one.

    Let's face it tho, it's very unlikely... even less likely than a multi-platform game turning out to be better on the PS3.

    Farticus how's things? You've been quiet the past few days. Did the story about how many 360's are being ravaged by the E74 make you hide under your bed again.

    Don't worry the extended warranties will make the baddies go away, only to be replaced by a refurbished one.

    No my friend. I don't care how old he or you or anyone is. We are on a messageboard where we can pretend to be everything we want to be. What I don't like are people who behave like him... actually I think nobody likes such people and it doesn't matter what kind of console or whatever kind of job they have.
    The point is he doesn't even own a PS3 so why should he care? He should enjoy his console of choice and not spend his time lurking around waiting to diss anything positive about PS3 (or XBox360).

    One X360 gone on ebay, one of my PS3 owning workmate succumbed and splashed out on X360 (BigOtter2009) his achievement would be near zero or just above as playing RE5 on it.

    So what matters whether X360 is sold or X360 is bought? This topic is PS3 right? So why bring up comments such as above to contribute to the so called Platform War!

    This time I would say Joker exclusive to be pretty cool for pS3, whatever is being said, the fact that the most iconic and well known baddy is only available on PS3 is an important card in Sony hand.

    However like Darth Vader... how long for?!

    Still keen on the Arkham Asylum and believe the game will be just as fun as wonderful on both platform.

    As for the joker.. i dont understand why it's downloadable only (Why not just include it with the game?)

    Also, "only in challenge maps" tells me that all it is, is a skin change. So sounds a bit boring as far as "exclusive" content goes (imho).

    But will see how the game pans out, im a big batman comic book fan - so if this is any good, i think i'll be getting the ps3 version (buying the 360 verison would need me reaching around back of tv and re-plugging in 360.. really should get aroudn to buying a hdmi adaptor for it).

    They said the same thing about the Green Goblin being exclusive for the PStriple in Spider-Man 3, Darth Vader in Soul Calibur IV, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the same thing happening here.

    Besides which, the press release states that the Joker challenge rooms are exclusive to the PStriple, not the actual character himself, so who's to say that 360 owners won't also see him, with their own set of exclusive challenge rooms?

    well now that Eidos are owned by Square, this game will be delayed 18 months while the english/japanese translation work is carried out, the PS3 version exclusive to Japan, and the the game not released until the Japanese translation is finished, which won't be done until the game is finally gold ;)

    well thats how square usually work ;) half expecting the english ps3 version to be canned now, with that version being an xbox 360 exclusive ;)
