Jetpac this week's XBLA

Rare treat for 400 points.

Microsoft has confirmed that Jetpac Refuelled will be this Wednesday's Live Arcade addition.

It's a remake of the 1983 classic space blaster by Rare, and will cost you 400 points to download.

Jetpac has been completely overhauled for 2007, with a comprehensive graphical update for high-definition TVs, as well as more enemies, simultaneous multiplayer action for up to four players, and over 100 new levels.

You'll also be able to accrue the usual bounty of achievements, totaling 200 gamerpoints, in addition to posting your best score into a service-wide leaderboard.

Both old and new versions of the game will be included.

Jetpac Refuelled challenges you with rebuilding your crashed spaceship by collecting scattered debris, fighting off hordes of hostile aliens at the same time. Once you've refuelled and taken off from one planet, you'll go and crash into another, rinsing and repeating said formula until there's nowhere left to go.

Look out for our thoughts on the game later this week.

Meanwhile you can head over to our Jetpac Refuelled gamepage to see the latest screenshots and trailers for the title.

Fully agree. It's sheer gaming genuis. At least it was in my halcyon mid 80s recollections.

Funnily enough I was just logging in to post and say the same.

It’s good to see that they have the original version but have also done more than just slightly tart it up for the new version. For 400 points I think nostalgia may just get the better of me !

If I could cuddle a large corporation I would be doing so right now. From the moment that odd looking spaceman appeared on the Rare logo screen in PDZ0 I prayed for this news.

And im on holiday Wednesday as well!!!!! Woo hoo

    /remembers nursery needs painting. :(

sheer gaming genius in 1943 or whenever the original came out doesn't equate to sheer gaming genius in 2007. Will have to see what they've done with the update.

The update looks beautiful. I hope it plays as good as it looks.

I ll be awake 8 am and going to download/play it straight away upon release! This was among my favourite on my well used pirated C90 tape for ol' Spectrum. So buying it this time is my penance and a joyful one at that!

Agreed that if more company taking the proper attempt at updating their classics on Live the same way, all the better for it!

Sympathies to lennon, maybe you ll get break in between to have a go!

This was actually the first computer game I ever played. On my trusty Spectrum ZX 48K nonetheless. I do, however, think it has aged quite badly and have no urge to play it again.

    HI
I wonder if we will ever get the skateboard game 720 or space harrier (music was great) and I would love the ocean game The great escape, brilliant, brilliant game. Also I think their was a grand prix game called Konami Circus, does this ring a bell with anyone, if I have the name correct ! it was and is still the best F1 game I have played in an arcade or on a home pc/console.

I played this in Donkey Kong 64. I'll probably break that out if I ever need to play it again.

Castlevania, on the other hand, has been wonderful so far.

And where has Catan got to anyway? It showed up in the newsletter a few weeks back, but doesn't seem to have got any closer to Marketplace. Why can't Arcade games have release dates like everything else?

    @ DUFFMAN5

I think that was continental circus, and yes it was class.
