Japanese Wii gets DS downloads News

Wii DS News by Tom Bramwell

27 November, 2007

Nintendo has launched a new Wii channel in Japan that allows people to download demos of DS games.

As promised last month, the new channel also has other content like Wii trailers and a feedback form so you can send Nintendo love-notes.

Except, for now at least, the channel is only up and running in Japan, with Nintendo UK pointing out to us today that it has "not announced plans for a European roll-out at this time".

All of which means you'll just have to gawp at screenshots on the official website until someone does.

Editupdate: Or you could watch the video Wired dug up. They are so handsome.

Do you really need Wii demos to know that first party games are ace and third party ones suck? With the odd exception of course....

DS games aren't that big in file size to begin with and with demos being about 1/3 of a what a game is in total I think the Wii should be able to hand the demo downloads with little problem.

Hopefully this'll hit the rest of the world soon... I can see why they're doing it in Japan first, since practically everyone in Japan has a DS, and Wii sales seem to be a bit slower there right now.

+1 to that. I'm fed up with having to go to the shop and buy them (or rather, import them from the USA)

Lovely; surely it's just a matter of time before this gets rolled out to the US and Euro markets?

I think they could do Wii demo's, but it would probably mean having to download it everytime as it would use the RAM to store the game.

It works the same as the DS Download Stations (that you're supposed to see in shops, but they're either not there or don't work), in that you transfer the demo to your DS and it sits there for you to play as much as you want until you turn off the DS. Then if you want to play it again you'll have to send it over again. Not a big price to pay really, when there's no loading times with carts.

Wii demos are a much more unlikely prospect. Fucking 512mb. :(

Alas, time is NoE's best friend and our worst enemy!
