Japanese SFIV blog hints at sequel

Well, hints at a sequel announcement.

Capcom's Japanese Street Fighter IV blog has started hinting at a forthcoming sequel.

Natsuki Shiozawa wrote on Friday (thanks IGN) that some sort of announcement regarding the series' future is imminent, having said something similar the week before.

She actually uses the word "sequel" on the blog there, at least according to our Hyperwords translation, although Hyperwords also brings us the frankly unsettling, "Let's keep the flexibility? Black vinegar is drinking every day."

There are no further details on what Shiozawa's on about, and with the game having come out in just seven months ago, we're unlikely to be talking about full-blown Street Fighter V, but we'll let you know if anything pops up.

Because we're shameless, here's a link to our Street Fighter IV review while we're at it.

It won't be Street Fighter V. It will be Street Fighter IV: Championship Edition, or Hyper Street Fighter IV, or something like that. I'm guessing it will be some new moves, some balance tweaks, one or two new characters and maybe a couple of different backgrounds - the sort of thing they could quite easily release as an update to the base game, but knowing Capcom they'll try and sell it as a separate full-price release.

Dear god - the endless milking of the game has begun way sooner than I imagined.

I'm not buying any remixed version of SFIV. I already suckered into that 2 times when I was 12.

An add on for 800-1200 points fine, but I'm not buying the same game twice.

Are you sure it's Dash? A lot of its 'upcoming' features are already in. It also is referred to as the Championship Edition, and articles about it describe the addition of what pretty much is the Championship Mode. I don't think it's Dash, although I might be incorrect since it's very easy to be confused with the way Street Fighter 'sequels' work.

Regardless, as much as I like Street Fighter IV (despite it successfuly making me summon tornadoes and meteor showers borne of my rage), it needs new content and minor changes to several characters to further chisel what is rather good balance. Seth pays too much for a mistake of any kind, Sagat is fast, deals ungodly damage and has above average stamina...

    So, good news. I'm curious.

Can I ask? Am I the only SF nut who tired of 4 VERY quickly?

Mind you if a "sequel" does for 4 what 3rd strike did for 3. Bring it on Capcom baby.....

I thought SF4 was very good but I still miss SF3's parry system. If this "sequel" balances out some characters it will be awesome... though if they touch Abel then I will be disappointed. So many people whine about Abel, saying he's unbalanced but really he's just really good when you master him, which is actually quite difficult to do.

EDIT: Just read that Ibuki could make a return... if so... umma crush everyone with her!

    no evil ryu, no sale

There are thousands of people who have absolutely no trouble using the standard 360 dpad on SF4. In fact, the younger brother of a friend of mine has completed every Trial on Hard using it... and it makes me sick!

Capcom have admitted that Seth and Sagat where overpowered - [link url=http://www.jo ystiq.com/2009/07/13/capcom-admits-to-overpowered-seth-and-s agat-in-street-fighter-iv/

I don't know how it is on the XBox, but if you look at the all time best Vs records on the PS3 pages 1-4 are pretty much solid Seth.

Now if they give me slightly quicker Gouken or a slightly tougher Goki, my world domination can begin. It'd be good to see Birdie or Evil Ryu again too.

Seth? Overpowered? Huh, I meant to say he is underpowered. His offence might be stellar, but it's very easy to make a mistake whilst playing as him, and you are thoroughly and painfully fucked once you do. It's not a question of 'if', but 'when'. Seth is my secondary main; I play him when I want to screw with people, and if I win, it's only because they fail to adapt.

Isn't Gouken already pretty fast? He's a pretty well-rounded character, I find, though I haven't really used him that much, so I what I say regarding him isn't worth much. Gouki, on the other hand, used to be my main. I eventually left him after too many raging sessions. He already has too much limits - the hard-to-land Ultra that is by far not the strongest one in the game, laughable stamina and average speed. They need to buff the bastard.

I also got tired of Street Fighter 4 really fast. I was undecided about the visuals but after some time I settled on not liking them. Animations mimick the 2D ones but just aren't good for most characters. The music sucks chocolate salty balls. Gameplay was okayish compared to other games in the series but when considering all the places fighting games could go, it feels really old.
  • EvilBob_leeds #14 2 years ago

Ah, right. I think that's kind of it though with Seth. You are left exposed if you cock something up, but you need to a) cock it up in the first place and b) be playing against someone good enough to really punish you for it when you do. Otherwise you can cheaply work your way to victory pretty frequently.

Personally I think Goukens a little bit leaden sometimes, but definately worth putting the hours in with. You're bang on the money with Gouki, but as much as they've taken the sting out of the raging demon, it still puts a smile on my face when it hits.

i think, i think i still prefer to play hd remix than iv (despite the atrocious artwork). it just feels a bit tighter maybe, a bit faster.

but give me dudley for iv and then we'll talk . . .

I hated the zooming around and the 2.5d of SF IV, esp when doing the special moves...The backgrounds mostly had no atmosphere, the characters looked too cartoony, the music was cheesy and awful, also no timing skill was required - mash mash the buttons. Also lost the impact that 2D fighters still remain to have in finishing moves, atmosphere, focus, and feel: SF III, X-Men Vs Capcom, Guilty Gear, Blazeblue, Capcom Vs Snk , Samurai Showdown, Mark Of The Wolves, King Of Fighters(new one sucked) etc etc...I hope some of these great 2D beat-em ups get the widescreen & HD treatment (added a few frames on animation too!).

a pin-sharp 3rd strike port on psn/live arcade would be the magic

"Dear god - the endless milking of the game has begun way sooner than I imagined."

Like someone said in a L4D2 topic.

"oh no!, they are planning to giving us more of our favourite game soon!"

Of course, I would like to expect a DLC update with more characters... but sadly this is capcom, they are going to release a full game for sure because they know that people will buy it anyway.
