Japan: New Pokemon catches all News

PlayStation 3 PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 Wii

18 September, 2009

The arrival of Pokémon Soul Silver and Pokémon Heart Gold dominated Japan last week.

M-Creata data counted 723,000 and 720,000 sales, respectively, as the pair took first and second place.

Third-place Tamodachi Collection sold a puny 74,000 units to break a lifetime total of 1m, while Dragon Quest IX shifted 37,000 copies to take fourth and soldier on to the 4m milestone.

Pokémon's effect on the region meant PS3 dominance - brought about by the launch of the PS3 Slim - lasted only a week. DSi and DS Lite combined to sell 77,677 units for the week ending 13th September, while Sony's flagship console managed 55,344 sales.

That was still way ahead of PSP and Wii, which posted 18,375 and 17,568 sales apiece - and a mountain for Xbox 360 to climb with 7568 sales. PS2 sat at the bottom of the pile with 2612 sales.

There's little else of note, although budget editions of Call of Duty 4 debuted at 12 and 14 on PS3 and 360.

What!?

lol can't say I'm surprised in the least to be fair. Pokémon will continue to dominate in Japan for many years yet.

A remake of Gold and Silver? Ah, those were the days. Haha, some guy already hacked a Firered game to make it an advanced Gold game, and released it ages ago. I played it, it was pretty awesome.

Ditto. I had Red, I think. I could manage 151 Pokemon, but not another 300 or whatever.

Pokemon should died a quick death years ago. Instead we have these shite re-hash every 2 years. The day they make an online fully 3D game, then they would of moved forward. Right now its all gimmicks.

As of the current generation there are 493 Pokemon.
Each generation they seem to add more and more event only legendaries. The first two generations only had one each, Ruby and Sapphire had loads, and Diamond and Pearl has loads.
