I tried Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP but its seem too much of a grind to get going, too much like a MMO which I never got into!

It is interesting that it is more popuar in Japan than it is in the West and I know that I am only one person among thousands of gamers who never got into it. Does that mean Capcom need to promote it better or tinker with it to ensure success for Western audience especially when offering it on multiple platform in future?

Maybe it is excellent as it is but just not catering to all, such as Wrestling or American Football games do not get bought by a great majority.

well MHF was tough to get to grips with, but MHF2 was way way better, imo. i'm not bothered about 2g, just give me MH3 and MHF3 and i'll be like pig in shit! \o/

These games were always a touch too slow for my tastes. I suspect that's why they failed to take off in the west. I played the original PS2 versions and then the monster hunter 2 on PSP. Didn't complete any of them as I kept getting killed by fast moving raptors while wielding a massive yet bloody slow sword or gun or bow.

Concept was good though. Just needs speeding up a bit.

Edit: for the old typos

i know it kind of misses the point but i always wished this series went the full MMO route (even if only like guild wars). I used to play it on the PS2 with the network adaptor and it was some of the best experiences, esp.when you had 8 (yes EIGHT!) people in a town.

So Capcom, take note...you don't have to let the series flounder on Wii just to turn a quick buck. Put MH3 and its successors on PSP/2/3 and you'll still rake it in. Best Capcom series ever...but I won't buy a fecking Wii for it.

Played MH1 yesterday on my PS3...finally solo'd the Rathalos urgernt mission. MH Portable 2 has sharpened my skills. Bloody brilliant games, the lot of them.

Never got into the series. Have thought about getting MH2 but if I understand correctly, a significant part of the missions can't be completed on your own.

There actually already is an MMO on the PC, but once again it wasn't released outside of Japan.

I really hope they see fit to release the Wii one, I'd love to have a Phantasy Star Online style game to play with some friends online. The only reason I never bothered with the PSP versions was because they constantly seem to be releasing new versions that are nothing but small updates..

So I can understand why they don't want to release them here because they don't sell, but if they release the third game on the Wii, and don't announce a better updated version of it ten minutes after release, then I'm pretty sure it would sell quite well.

Interesting how rampant PSP piracy hasn't affected MHP in Japan.

Begrudgingly looking forward to the wii one. Just hink it would have been better off on the PS3. They canned the PS3 one due to dev costs which is a shame since this game deserves to be online and the Wii online service is the worst of the three.

How could you fault a game that has a huge pink gorilla that has a devastating fart attack!

Les there are some quest missions that can really only be completed with a few of you but to be honest you'll never get round to them the single player content is soooo massive that you'd never complete it all either.

This game is slow to start to you work out what weapon does what how long it takes to attack with and learn the different monster attack patterns/routes its seriously deep and difficult thats what puts most people off.

@Dafridge

While I'd normally agree the Wii's online service is a joke, I think this the type of game that would be more enjoyable to play with friends, or at least people you know online, rather than complete random strangers, so I doubt the friend codes will be too damaging here.

Found the original far too clumsy, but it does have potential, just stop releasing yearly updates and revamp the combat and Capcom will be laughing...with us rather than at our expense.

And release Monster Hunter 2G with online play for Europeans, cutting a huge chunk of the games appeal out doesn't endear it to Westerners!
