Japan charts: PES 2010 scores News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

12 November, 2009

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 has topped the Japanese chart for the week ending 8th November 2009.

The PS3 version sold 210,000 units, according to Media Create data, whereas the Xbox 360 game finished down at 22.

Incidentally, there's no sign of FIFA 10 this week, following a debut Peter Moore was "delighted" with.

Bayonetta, last week's leader, dropped to eight after sales plummeted 79 per cent from 136,000 units to just 29,000 units on PS3.

Heart Gold/Soul Silver (2), Wii Fit Plus (3), Tomodachi Collection (4) and Persona 3 Portable (5) rounded out the top five, followed by Inazuma Eleven (6) and Final Fantasy Gaiden: Four Warriors of Light (7).

The rest of the best are Bandai's new DS game Summon Nights X: Tears Crown (9) and SEGA's Wii hopeful Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (10).

Further down are more recognisable newcomers in the shape of Infamous (14) and From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes (16) - both are on PS3.

Japanese hardware sales will be available soon.

Probably Call of Duty... I heard it's on the Wii now ;)

Edit: The obligatory wink for those who didn't understand that I was being sardonic the first time round.

If the retail version is as poorly coded as the demo I played suggested then that doesn't surprise me at all.

Considering that my right had is trying to eat soup can someone explain why we should give a flying monkey about my left hand trying to juggle?

Oh right, that's because they're both important parts of the same overall being and therefore inter-related.

@ Gringo

I wholeheartedly agree. In fact...

Considering the title of this site can somebody explain why we should give a flying monkey about the American Xbox 360, the Japanese Nintendo Wii and Japanese Playstation 3?

Wonder what way the hardware chart will be. The ps3 is bound to slump soon with the inbound final fantasy bundle in japan.

@MiniAmin & gingerhairpiece (sounds better)

There are quite a few European's who have imported their consoles from Japan and the US; so these charts will be relevant to them. The main reasons for importing are blatantly obvious and there is no need for me to go into detail.

I think this demonstrates why Konami aren't willing to take risks and mess with the familiar style of PES. They've stuck to the same formula for a long time now and continue to do well in Japan for that reason. I prefer the arcade, free-flowing nature of PES and I'm not a football fan. I think Fifa is more suited to the purists where as PES is more for videogame fans.

@Sid Nice: What does how many copies a game is selling have to do with what you buy for your imported console? And surely if you're hardcore enough to be running an NTSC console, you know better places to look than EG's cursory glance at the foreign charts?

@MiniAmin: He's a hardened Speccy/Amstrad gamer?
