Japan charts: Dragon Quest still No. 1
Peace Walker debuts in second.
PSP exclusive Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker debuted in second place on the Japanese sales charts for the week ending 2nd May.
Square Enix's monster-collection RPG spin-off Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 took the top spot with 624,000 weekly sales, easily besting Peace Walker's relatively strong 434,000 units, according to data released by Media Create.
Versions of Capcom's Super Street Fighter IV took the third and fifth places on the list, selling 81,000 copies on the PS3 and 28,000 copies on the Xbox 360 in its first week on sale. Last week's top seller, Nier Replicant, fell way down to ninth with only 21,000 weekly sales.
Nintendo's tradition of strong, perennial sellers continued with four games - New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Tomodachi Collection and Wii Fit Plus - appearing in the week's top 10 sellers.

so wen talking to your friends or colleague abt it you have to mention the full name every time you make a refference to it?thats tiring. how do they fit those names onto the game case anyway, they must take up the entire front cover.

Square-Enix haven't released a DQ game on a weekday in ages for that very reason. It's pretty much weekend releases only to prevent loss of productivity (and make sure even more people can make it). It's pretty mainstream too, the easiest cultural equivalent would be the launch of a Harry Potter book. Metal Gear Solid really has nothing on Dragon Quest.

Bear in mind it's written in Japanese so it'll look a lot shorter on the pack, it's a manga/anime adaptation anyway so that accounts for one of the three titles. Plus as Siro says the Japanese love to abbreviate these things.
