Is Rockstar teasing the next GTA?

Well, it's teasing something.

Rockstar may well be teasing the next Grand Theft Auto game or DLC in the packaging for Episodes From Liberty City.

At least, that's the impression you might get if you poured over page 13 of the game's instruction booklet, scanned in by a GTAForums.com user (thanks vg247).

Done up as an advert, it shows the Liberty City skyline crowning a broken heart montage of images from GTAIV boxes, bearing the legend, "Liberty City, It's Over!"

Then it says, "Next stop", but the area of the advert that should highlight the location is torn away, revealing a few splashes of colour, which forumites are busy trying to interpret at the moment.

Right at the bottom of the advert, which looks like a flyer for something at the "Theater Seagull" - a familiar logo in Liberty City, as noted by someone else on GTAForums.com - it says "Opens March Everywhere".

More GTAIV DLC in March? GTAV information in March? Something to do with GTA in March? We'll probably find out closer to March, we're guessing.

In the meantime, why not play The Ballad of Gay Tony? It's excellent, out today, and also forms one half of the Episodes From Liberty City bundle, a compilation of Gay Tony and the previous DLC episode, The Lost and Damned, which doesn't require GTAIV to play.

  • mkreku #2 2 years ago

Please let them re-introduce FUN again into the world of GTA!
  • matrim83 #3 2 years ago

Two (admittedly good) DLCs are enough IMO. Its time for a new GTA. Anymore DLCs and it will start to become a bit stale.
  • sfp_noodle #4 2 years ago

completely agree with u matrim83. the dlc so far has been excellent, but i think its time they started to work hard on the next gta. in march, it will be almost 2 years since they launched gta 4 and based on the past, a new gta game arrives roughly 3 years after its predecessor. so announcing it in march, and releasing it towards xmas 2010 or earlu 2011 wudnt be a bad bet. having sed tht tho, theyre also hard at work on the ps3' agent, so this shud be interesting

i think, rockstar send us all to san andreas
  • mkreku #8 2 years ago

I wouldn't mind San Andreas at all! That was the GTA I've had the most fun with. Just make the game engine less sluggish on the PC and it would be perfect!

That torn-out section looks like a palm tree to me...
  • Monkey_Puncher #10 2 years ago

I'm hoping the fact that the new content has Vice City Radio Station where Fernando plays 80's music is another pointer in the direction of the new game.
  • DDevil #11 2 years ago

Well those "splashes of colour" are clearly some trees, a river and a mountain.
  • sickpuppysoftware #12 2 years ago

    What DDevil said.

    GTA Grizzly Adams!
  • neilka #13 2 years ago

If you poured what over page 13?
  • keano #14 2 years ago

well there were rumours of gta movie based on san andreas setting but tht was confirmed to be not true.....could tht be a crossing of wires to the direction of the next development for the game rather than a movie

I'd like to see a completely brand new setting for the next GTA. How about taking it to a different part of the world for instance, like setting it in the Mediterranean, in a GTA version of the Costa Del Crime.

Plus it would be nice to get back to the fun old days of San Andreas, and dump all those irritating needy friends that keep ringing you up. Lord only knows why they thought it would be a good feature to put in a game, but having to take people out for dinner and drinks just wasn't fun, not even once.

    Ooooh March should be epic.
  • Dop #17 2 years ago

High time they revisited the idea of GTA London from the old 2D days.
Mini Coopers, Mark 2 Jags, Kray twins and 'self-preservation society', all that thing.
  • WladTapas #18 2 years ago

GTA Motor City set in Detroit around 1968-70. Motown & muscle cars!
  • makeamazing #19 2 years ago

So "Coming Everywhere" Except Ps3? or is this coded to suggest that the PS3 is finally getting some DLC.

About time there was a game of the year edition... me wants :)
  • jefranklin18 #20 2 years ago

    @Dop:

While GTA London would be good, I reckon with algorithmic generation of buildings/towns, etc (as used for galaxy creation in Elite/Frontier) it would be possible to have the entirety of the UK mapped out, with just a few key cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, etc as being created from scratch.

I reckon a game where you start out as an ex-squaddie kicked out of the services (so your starting point is Colchester prison) and you can either be attracted to the gangs of London, the casinos of Manc, slappers in Newcastle, etc could be good fun.

Looks like the top of the statue of liberty to me...

26th March 2010 - release date for Red Dead Redemption - GTA in the wild west
And the picture does look like a rocky desert scene.
    Thats my guess.......
  • smelly #23 2 years ago

Meh.. unless they stop trying to be "realistic" and start going back to being fun like vice city was.. i'm not interested.
  • YourMessageHere #24 2 years ago

Please, Rockstar, take GTA out of the USA. Much as I like the potential of a late 60s-early 70s setting and a plethora of muscle cars, I'm thoroughly sick of the USA. I vote for Tokyo, but then I usually do; I'd settle for anywhere but the USA really.

    @ neilka

They mean "if you pored over page 13". I'd comment directly about it but EG seem to care even less about correcting their cockups than they do about proof reading.
  • comissars_handgun #25 2 years ago

    @ YourMessageHere

It wouldn't have the same GTA feel if it wasn't set in the USA IMO. I'm another hoping for San Andreas, but I have to agree that the colour scheme there and the Vice City Radio on the Episodes disc version make it sound like it will be Vice City. Hope they have some countryside this time.
  • Shotaro #26 2 years ago

Imagine if (and yes I know it would be physically impossible) it was set over the whole of main land Europe, hopping borders to escape the law, playing one countrys mafia type gang off against another, being able to disappear off into oblivion
  • kongzi #27 2 years ago

I think they're gonna announce the new GTA then. Not an episode but a proper GTA IV. It makes sense cause untill then it's gonna be all about Red Dead for Rockstar, which has been released by then.

My guess is they're going to Vice City again, altough that would be kind of boring. Or maybe do a new San Andreas with multiple cities and countryside. I don't think they're gonna bring in a whole new city, altough that idea of motown circa 1970 has a nice ring to it. That brings me to the second guess, it's maybe gonna be a period piece, and if so, probably not the 80's or 90's. It's not going to be outside of the States. Satire on American society has always been a huge part of the story/concept
