iPhone developers mock Langdell

Change all their game names to Edge.

A number of iPhone developers apparently incensed by litigious Edge Games boss Tim Langdell have renamed their games to include the word "Edge".

Fez, for example, is now called Fedge. "To better represent the edgy nature and aesthetic the game, and edges of squares and cubes, Polytron is proud to announce the name change from Fez to FEDGE!" the game's website explained.

"We at Polytron Corporation are at the edge of everything, at the edge of other edges, so it only make sense to reflect this edgyness in our product's name, which is now Fedge."

"Tags: edge, edge of edge, edgy, edgy edge edge edge edge, fedge, fez."

Other games undergoing rebranding (links gathered together by Touch Arcade) include Eliss (sequel to be called Edgeliss), Closure (now "Closure: on the EDGE of reality"), Dismount (sequel "Ledge Dismount"), Edgeward McEdgington and Critter Crunch (now Critter Credge).

Tim Langdell's name rose to infamy earlier this year when word spread of his attempts to prevent French developer Mobigame from calling its game "Edge", as catalogued in our extensive feature on the subject.

Electronic Arts got involved recently, petitioning to have Langdell's series of Edge-related trademarks cancelled following attacks on its game Mirror's Edge.

However, that hasn't stopped Langdell pressing on with other actions, including one against PuzzleKings over Killer Edge Racing, which seems to have inspired cheeky devs from taking a stand this week.

    Good stuff, devs! :)
  • UncleLou #2 2 years ago

    That's excellent. :D
  • Cyclone #3 2 years ago

Brilliant. It's always nice when a litigious twat rightly gets the piss ripped out of him. +1 for the Fedge tags.
  • Toothball #4 2 years ago

What does this Langdell character really hope to achieve with his patent trolling? No one is going to take him seriously. I can't say I've even heard of whatever his game is.

This thing with the other developers is funny though.

    Fantastic!
nothing like some hearty re-affirmation of my faith in humanity over my morning coffee :D
    +1 iPhone Devs :)
  • darkmorgado #6 2 years ago

First "lol" of the morning! I spat coffee.
Nice to see that the idiot no longer has any sort of fear-inspired power over indie devs, even if it was baseless to start with and even if the idiot (a real utter, utter, twatty faced idiot) is still going on with his ridiculous trademark trolling despite the fact he is facing a severe ass-raping thanks to EA.
  • Thalanos #7 2 years ago

This makes me all kinds of happy.
  • darkmorgado #8 2 years ago

I suggest we all spend a few minutes to e-mail him and make him aware of this. After all, it took him 5 years to notice Killer Edge Racing (and then move to trademark a phrase that has been in use by another company for years), so he might have missed this.

Points awarded for the most amusing use of the word "edge".

Additional points awarded if you put a trademark symbol after EVERY WORD.

wish i had a game to call edge now... :)

    Dear Electronic Arts,

It has occurred to me that the titles of your games are somewhat lacking and do not reflect the innovative and "edgy" nature of both your business and your products. Therefore, can I please suggest immediately re-titling the following:

    EDGE of Dead Space

    Dragon Edge: Origins

    Mass Edge-fect 2

    Need for Speed: EDGE

Mirror's Edge 2: An edgy experience on the edge of buildings involving jumping off lots of lEDGES.

    SyndicEDGE 3

Edge Edge McEdginton meets the Edge Edge Edgewards on the Edge of Edginton (suggested new annual franchise).

Hehe, love the comments on Polytron's website:-

    "Miles Fedgeworth Says:

    November 11th, 2009 at 17:04
Hi, I’m Miles Fedgeworth, owner of Fedge’s Hedges and Topiary PLC.

In 1992 we filed a copyright claim in Christmas Island for ‘”Fedge”, as pertaining to Hedges, horticulture, grass, lawnmowers, weed trimmers, topiary and computerised hedge shaping simulations’. Your title “Fedge” clearly infringes on a number of our protected copyrights and we wish to seek renumeration.

The “trixel”, is clearly inspired by (if not exceedingly derivative of) our unique equilateral cuboid hedge designs and we aggressively protect our unique designs with full support of the HGDA (Hedge Growers Drinking Association).

We expect compensation in the form of money, promo copies and tshirts."

I wonder if he will be able to resist the urge to issue a statement once again completely denying that he has done anything wrong and claiming that he is being harassed by a "minority" of people who are all lying.

"What does this Langdell character really hope to achieve with his patent trolling? No one is going to take him seriously."

Well, I think he expects to achive wealth rather than being taken seriously. Hopefully, neither will result.
  • DrR0b3rts #17 2 years ago

Nice. I spat coffee too. And I don't even drink coffee.
  • login_name #18 2 years ago

Genius, I hope there's more to come :)

Langbell must have either the thickest skin or the thickest head. Whichever it is, he's still a massive penis.
  • TopKatt #19 2 years ago

Love it! Well done devs :)

Since when was Fez an iPhone game...? Surely its not just iPhone developers...
  • Hypercube #21 2 years ago

*sniff* This has brought a tear of joy to my cynical eyes, and a flutter of hope in my cold, cynical heart.

I feel like writing an iPhone app that simply makes the words "Tim Langdell Is A Cunt'' bounce around on screen. I think I'll call it "On The Edgy Edge Edge of Edginess, With Another Edge Just Over The Edge (EDGE EDGE EDGE)".

Then, if he tries it on, he'll have to prove that he wrote a game that calls him a cunt before I did.

Is it libellous to call someone a cunt, or merely opinion?

Hehe - "War Twat" is now "Edge Twat", and "Squid Yes, Not So Octopus" has become "Edge Yes, Not So Octopus"

  • mode7 #23 2 years ago

Incidentally "Tim Langdell" is a anagram of "Tall Ding Elm" which incidentally is a another term used for "the morning wood"

    Fascinating!

    Edited for incompetence

Incidentally, now i chose to refer to him as "Wood", "Woody" or one better "Wedgie"! The name just seems to stick closely to the mental image i have of him.
  • cock #25 2 years ago

In your mental image of him he has an early morning erection?
  • mode7 #26 2 years ago

Yes, protruding from beneath his fringe.
  • Retroid #27 2 years ago

    :D

Hopefully now he'll start to realise just how much of an utter fool / twat the rest of the industry think he is.
  • Kami #28 2 years ago

First Psychotext being quoted in the Star, now developers are taking the piss out of Langdell.

Today is just so full of win.
  • bigjimbeef #29 2 years ago

Fantastic. That's gonna keep me giggling for a while. Edgeward McEdgington seems like a clear winner here.
  • anomagnus #30 2 years ago

Now this made me smile in a big way.

I'm not sure if many peopler ead that awesome legal document that EA had put togeather, but langdell deserves this.

As others have said, its good to see the fear he created has been dispelled.
  • rprince #31 2 years ago

Note to self, read whole article before making hasty comments, or else risk being ridiculed!

[This is a great eff-you to Langdell, but where was it when Mobigames needed support? These devs could have done this 6 months ago as a sign of support, but they were all too scared of getting sued as well.]

I am on the EDGE of my seat waiting to see if Langdell will go over the EDGE when he finds out they are taking the piss out of his now non-existent EDGE trademark. This is lEDGEndary news. Time to move my mouse to the EDGE of the screen and press the EDGE of the button to put this EDGEy comment on this EDGE article. EDGE
  • CaptainTrips #34 2 years ago

This is the greatest story I've heard all week, nay all year!

As Jack Thompson learned many years ago - you don't fuck with video gamers, or those who ply their trade in our industry.

In fact, I propose that in future the 12th of November should be renamed the twedgeth of Novedgeber, and we shall not be able to discuss any games on this day without squeezing the name "Edge" in their title.

So, everyone enjoying Call of Edgy: Modern Edgefare 2?

    More news about this douche:

He's sent a complaint filled with lies to Apple over Killer Edge Racing, who have pulled it from the store, and has been seeting up more front companies which he is using to register trademarks.
