inFamous to include Uncharted beta key News

PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

27 April, 2009

Sony has revealed that everyone who buys inFamous in the US will receive a bonus - access to the multiplayer beta test for Uncharted 2.

This is a US-specific promotion, but Sony has told Eurogamer that it's working on something for Europe that will be announced in due course.

Uncharted 2's multiplayer modes - five-on-five competitive matches and three-player co-op - have just been announced by Sony and developer Naughty Dog. You can read more about them in our hands-on preview.

This move echoes one made by Microsoft in 2007. Sony's rival included an invitation to the Halo 3 multiplayer beta with every copy of Realtime Worlds' open-world action game Crackdown. The parallels don't end there - inFamous is also an open-world actioner with a rooftop-hopping, superheroic theme.

Announcing the news at an event last week, Nate Fox, creative director of inFamous developer Sucker Punch, said: "We're so excited. Naughty Dog is like a brother studio to us."

We'll have more on inFamous in the coming days, so stay tuned.

How unique of Sony to include a multiplayer beta of a (partly) shooting game with an openworld superhero game.

I wonder why they decided to essentially copy the whole idea. I'm not sure Uncharted has the same pulling power as Halo (unless the PS3's software library is even more depleted than I thought).

@ Eraysor

Because with something like 2.5 million sales there will be a lot of Uncharted fans out there, and it's a good way to increase sales of this unproven IP in the form of inFamous. No, Uncharted doesn't have the pulling power of Halo, but few games have so what's you point?

Anyway, I hope we get something over here too, as I will probably be buying inFamous (if I don't receive it free to review), so I hope we have something Uncharted related too.

"It's a US promotion - Europe has plans."
That last part should almost be followed by an evil laugh.

So Europe plans -ok so europes taken of, but what about the UK.

It'll probably be you get a chance of 1000 codes availble on a website instead of packing it in with infamous. And where is the infamous release date that SCEE announced there would be an announcement before may

It's Sony, so plans for Europe must be to do nothing surely?

The reason for Eraysor's rant can readily be answered by looking at his profile and games list - it appears he is a 360-only gamer, hence the skepticism regarding a PS3 exclusive.

Are they trying to sell me a game, or a demo? Personally, I rather stay away now from Infamous, as this moves sounds more like the game has little to no other redeeming qualities. If Infamous was any good, it would not require a pack-in deal for another attractive game.

Don't be so presumtuous; pretty much all previews you'll find for inFamous suggest very good things, and Sucker Punch's previous Sly games were excellent, so that's encouraging. Also, by that virtue you'd have missed out on Crackdown, which a lot of people really love.
