Impressive. This thread makes the Darkfall community, who at least defended a game they had all played (and that got a 2), look like an intellectual powerhouse in comparison.

Congratulations EG ,you have given Infamous the worse score yet ,as you did with MGS4 and other PS3 exclusives.

You guys are really a bunch of haters arent you ?

Without looking, I'm pretty sure EG gave 9s to the likes of Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Demon's Souls and LittleBigPlanet.

Have not played the full game, have spent time on the demo. The article seems well written but definetely from the "cup is half empty" perspective. Seems like a bit part of this game is the climbing and the good vs evil which was touched upon but not really really given a lot of weight. There are about 10 reviews out for this game and the is 10 below the lowest of those 10. If you look at the authors history by clicking on his name you will see that he has never given a game a score higher than 8 so I guess a 7 is an average score. I tend to distrust this, it seems like it is a dis service when an individual grades games on his own scale and not that of the site. It makes reviews seem random and scores more about who is grading the game and not the content. I am definetely going to buy this game and if it is a "7" I will apologize and repost but after playing the demo I am pretty confident I am going to enjoy this product.

FUCK YOU EUROGAMER. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS BULLSHIT OF A WEBSITE. HOW CAN YOU RATE YET ANOTHER PS3 GAME DOWN? ISN'T IT OBVIOUS BY NOW? I MEAN I LOOK AT METACRITIC AND YOUR SCORE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT STANDS OUT.

YEAH I AM USING CAPLSOCK, BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT. I MADE AN ACCOUNT JUST FOR THIS ONE COMMENT. AFTER THIS I AM HEADING BACK TO GAMESPOT, GAMETRAILERS AND IGN: THE ONLY GAMING SITES ON THE INTERNET THAT MATTERS.

THIS SITE STINKS, FULL OF BIAS FANBOYS. GO SCREW YOURSELF GUYS. OH AND BY THE WAY FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOU!!!!

Uncontrollable rage issues ITCT.

For fuck's sake people, read the review first. This knee-jerkery to the score at the end is ridiculous. If there was some intelligent criticism here it'd be grand, but no, it's just more bile and vitriol and foaming at the mouth.

And play the game first before you jump to logic-shattering conclusions about a review. Jesus, the vast majority of you need help.

I got my copy last night and have thoroughly enjoyed the first few hours, more than anything it's just great fun - likeable main character (Zeke however, is annoying as hell), really fun and intuitive combat and a really good art style.

I've also only done a few main missions, and spent most of my time doing side missions, collecting shards and loking for the dead drops. It is a lot like Crackdown, but for reasons I cannot really explain (it's hard to fathom exactly why) I think it's much more fun (maybe that's just me though).

You and Edge are serious contenders to de most biased media ever. Congrats and enjoy M$ cash.

@ Kirone, and also many others:

I am definitely going to buy this game and if it is a "7" I will apologize and repost but after playing the demo I am pretty confident I am going to enjoy this product.

Great! I hope you do buy it, and I hope you enjoy it - but that won't mean this review has lied in any way. A game being enjoyable, and scoring a seven out of ten are not mutually exclusive!

The review reads like a seven, the gameplay sounds like a seven, and the score is a seven. I'm completely baffled as to why people are getting upset by this! InFamous sounds fun! It also sounds like a game that deserves its score. Seven is a good score, generally awarded to games which are good but unspectacular - i.e. they're fun, but slightly flawed, or they're fun but formulaic, or they're fun. . but maybe lacking in spectacular, groundbreaking, breathtaking qualities. Shadow of the Colossus, GTA IV, Little Big Planet and yes, Halo 3 all deserved high scores. They pushed the boundaries and took us to new places in gaming.

If you think that Tom should have stuck a higher number on the bottom of his inFamous review, then you really need to go and read Eurogamer's scoring policy. Or maybe go and read the fluff on Gamespot instead.

On that note, I've bought many games which only netted a seven from EG, and I've had a blast with them - fully informed of the fact that they were good without being great. Obscure - a really fun multiplayer PS2 horror game. I loved it. It deserved it's seven. Conan - a violent action romp filled with gore and nudity. I played it through twice, grinning. But would I have 'scored' it more than seven? No. That doesn't mean I wasn't allowed to love it, though!

Tom is an excellent writer and reviewer - one of the very best out there, and I love this site as it has proven again and again to have a whole lot more intelligence, depth and integrity than many other ([cough]mostly American[cough]) sites, which seem to consistently join in with publishers in hyping average (but fun!) games as The Next Big Amazing Must Have Thing.

Exclusive reviews almost always result in inflated review scores but in general only in the case of a sequel the hype is massive enough to get the rest of the sheep to follow suit...

I do agree with some on this site and perhaps a little with those who regged to vent. EG reviews are inconsistent with the majority of sites. It really does make me wonder why they give some games, be it Ps3 or 360 certain scores that simply dont correlate with how other sites rate said games.

Either way, I honestly dont think alot of people acutally listen and take on Eg reviews anymore, whats the point when you can use Metacritic and I think many readers are becoming tired of these stupid controvertisal scores, even if they are like a point or so less. A really well written review with no score at the end might be the way to go. Let the reader make the score in their mind.

I much prefer EG's style than other sites, screw the score. IGN and Gamespot are idiocy-ridden sites, where scoring is paramount and totally off kilter. I lolz at teh fanboys here, it's really, really dull now.

The stuff about Dead Space being a 7 etc - well, a number of times IGN have rated a game 9+ when I thought it was worthy of much less. WHO DO I TRUST?! WHAT DO I DO?! /weeples

As for all of the fantards saying "EG is teh biased against PS3", I just did a quick spreadsheet taking the top 25 rated exclusives for both PS3 and 360 (excluding arcade-type titles but including those that were console exclusive at the time of release) and matched them against the Metacritic scores.

On average, PS3 titles score 4.84 points lower here at EG than the Metacritic scores.

So EG clearly hates PS3!

On average, 360 titles score 4.56 points lower here at EG than the Metacritic scores.

So EG clearly hates 360!

Well I don't care what score EG give games, if I'm interested in a game, the demo is good and other sites give positive reviews then I'll buy it. If I took EG's word only on games then I'd never have bought the "mediocre" Banjo-Kazooie or the decent, very enjoyable X-Men Origins Wolverine. Both those games have average Metacritic/GameRankings scores of 70%+ and that's good enough for me to risk buying that game. I use EG's scores as the de minimis limit, just as I do Edge magazines! :)

Perhaps nobody is actually upset, and everyone is mocking everyone else's irony.

Anyway the review sounds interesting, and it is definitely one of the games I shall be picking up second hand when I've convinced myself to get a PS3.

I can't tell you how much fun I had with Ace Combat: Squadron Leader, but Eurogamer gave it 6/10!

Agh I don't like this. I mean its true to a certain extent, but I do think the mark of a good reviewer is to report/review a game without prejudice or bias.

Having said that, I've played just a touch this morning and right now having a blast just running up buildings. My two cents, if you love sandbox games, pick this up (and prototype in 2 weeks).

Well this result was obvious, and has been so for a while. Infamous has never come across as particularly interesting, and hearing the fine details of the combat mechanics makes it even less appealing. The unique selling point of electrical attacks may as well have been replaced with bog standard guns.

Prototype is far more likely to be the spectacle that Infamous wanted to be. As well as delivering the openworld, go-anywhere exploration element it is far more likely to deliver exciting combat (based on the developers hulk pedigree) and something more than the same TPS mechanics that have been done to death in the last couple of years.

But I do find it hilarious that so many people are here complaining about the score purely based on it being a PS3 exclusive and not actually commenting on the content or execution of the game itself.

So your reasoning for saying Prototype is much more awesome even though you've played neither isn't based on your preference for one console?

That would be a first.

zuljin..."i dont believe it....its true to a certain extent"??!?

Like it or not, its impossible for humans to be objective. We have areas in the brain that exlcusively influence perference and opinion. People talk about being ojective, but we can never be truely objective, its just not humanly possible as we are psychologyically and physiologically constructed to have opinions.

Supressing a bias what ever it is; in my opinion, and from my studies is something we try, but are never fully successful in doing so either.

And Farti... what if Prototype scores less than 7, you gonna admit your were wrong? ;)

I said Prototype is more likely to succeed because of the developers hulk pedigree. I gave no absolutes. But if Prototype is a bad game or receives a bad review then I'll certainly not claim bias and spam offensive blocks of capitals. ;)

Seems to me that EG really wanted to give the one an 8 as they made a whole lot of positive remarks on the front page.

I believe they felt it necessary to drop the score to 7 because of the weak level design of the middle stint and reportedly rubbish final boss.

So it's a good review and a fair score. Maybe all those higher scoring sites never played past the teeth and tits of the opening levels ?

I'm confused... I'm agreeing with you! Hence why I said it is true to a certain extent (because like you say it is impossible to shake off all bias/prejudice).

But people seem to give this excuse that reviewers will inherantly mark down a game because the reviewer has a natural preference for Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo consoles. I'm sure they do have a preference. I also hope they can put that to one side as much as possible and review a game for what it is.

@farticusmaximus
"When you discuss the game, not the platform, then we have a conversation. I'll not get into a platform argument with you."

When you play the games before making judgement one will be better than the other, then I will have this discussion with you. As it stands, you don't have a PS3 and with your previous outspoken hatred for it, I doubt you'll ever even play inFamous. So maybe leave out the comparisons between the two.

I second the motion to ditch scores altogether. That way people would actually have to READ the reviews instead of scrolling down to the number at the bottom right away and then comment on how the score was expected for a game they haven't even played yet.

@Reihn
For someone who feels the need to use a comments section of a totally unrelated game to fire off yet another instance of good old Halo 3 wanking, your patronizing remarks on your fellow posters' 'inaneness' seem a bit unfitting, imo. You know, you are free to leave this place anytime you feel your high horse surrounded by 'imbeciles'...?

Your suspicions will be correct once YOU play the game - unless you have, and then I am mistaken ;)

You can't think 'the score is pretty much right' if you haven't played it yourself. It plays like an 8/9 for me (but that is MY opinion and people can disagree with me and that's absolutely fine), more a 9 because it is SO much fun, but I've only played it for about 4 hours so far so my opinion may change once I finish the game. Unless it suddenly turns to shit halfway through I will run through this game again for the evil moral choices too, which is always a good sign for me wanting to play a game through again.

"IGN exclusive inFamous review early on 9.2 -> see a pattern here :-)"

SO HOW DO YOU ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT GAVE IT A 9??? THEY GET EARLY COPIES AS WELL???

"I think thats a good review. I think the score is pretty much right aswell. I can't see this game being anything outstanding or inventive.
My suspicions were correct."

NO you mean YOUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED!! This is the kind of comment that pisses people off. When it's so obvious you go in looking for something to fail.

By the way for all saying: "the review reads like a 7, gameplay sounds like a 7 (just like I hoped for the ps3 exclusive) bla bla",

The highest score this reviewer has given is an 8. Its right there oh dissilusioned ones, just click on his name :)

By the way PS3 only players get Prototype too so we can actually PLAY AND COMPARE BOTH!! Makes you weep doesn't it? LOOOL!!!!

Seriously its so obvious from 99% of people saying stuff like "this confirms my suspicions...7 is still fun not great...stop whining etc"

Its OBVIOUS you don't have a PS3. Why else would you want or suspect the game to fail? Or believe purely that a single "7", out of like 13 reviews so far which gave it a minimum of 8.5 with quite a few 9 and overs, is the one that is right??? Especially when the reviewer has never given higher than a 8? And same score as Bionic Commando? Give me a break.

Its OBVIOUS you are DESPERATE for it to fail, no matter how much you call people whiny, "read the review" etc.
At least IGN gave it 3 pages and discussed the positives like the other sites who gave higher scores. What do we know about what the reviewer though of the karma moments beyond a one-liner? How the game changes when you play as bad or good cole? The graphics? How are the pop-ins frame rates?

This was a kack review. Sorry
