Was on the fence before this review and I'm still on the fence now! Maybe one to grab at a lower price.

I was wondering what EG'd give this. IGN gave it a 9, but then IGN are mongoloids.

So the same reviewer gave this and Bionic Commando the same score. A good score nevertheless. Heres hoping Prototype can get a fantastic score like 9 or 10. I doubt it. But we need a really fantasic game soon.

Um, does this game have an easy mode? I want to get it but that 'do anything for Trish' video looked a bloody nightmare.

"If anything, it's rather difficult to descend, and Cole's other attributes cushion any actual fall from distance, providing it's not into deadly water."

I know it makes sense within the context of the main character being a big electric pylon, but I hate it when games use killer water to stop you exploring (earlier GTA games in particular).

I was expecting a bit higher for this. No cars in a sandbox game always seems a bit of a cop out though. Crackdowns driving was terrible but at least the choice was there. I'll still pick this up as a priority as reviews so far have been good!

Wow, 2 ignore posters already, keep it up.

I like the demo.But also got annoyed by it sometimes. I hate waves of enemy spamming. The climbing and flying was fun though. i will pick this up at some point, if Prototypes fails miserably I will get this instead, otherwise it's bound to get cheaper soon.

Sounds good, shame about the mission quality in the middle, but I enjoyed the demo so I'm giving this a go (hey, it should as good as Dead Space at any rate ;) )

'there are 32 'dead drops' to locate - audio recordings that fill in more of the back-story'

That sounds pretty cool, better than the motivation for collectables in -most- of these sandboxy games (ie: none)

I was quite interested in this until the comments in the review about the tedious and repetitive missions. The lack of imagination concerning Cole's powers is also pretty dissapointing, as you'd think that playing as a character infused with and powered by electricity would result in something a bit more exciting and different.

Let's hope Prototype delivers.

Pluuuaasssee!! Just cos EG gives score of 7/10 which is although much lower than I expected, doesnt mean they are rabid Xbox fanboys!

Have YOU played the game?!

We all have been here before, it wont stop me getting the game but now I ll reassess my expectations and lower expectation would mean I ll appreciate the game more than expecting an outright AAA classic!

Resident Evil 5 got some average score inc here at EG, I still ruddy well enjoyed the game!

ign.com is just populist gaming site and I always give EG and Edge's reviews serious considerations.

yeah, I got a code from Sony (for some reason I always get picked for the demo's, which is nice), but it should be here soon for everyone, maybe even this week.

@eryaysor

Well Dead Space got a 7 indeed and it kicked several 9/10 games ass. I would rather play thsi or Uncharted than something as lame as Killzone 2, so numbers aren't everything.

Canceled my pre-order for this. Get health by draining electricity from phone booths and cars ? No thanks. Health is an outdated game mechanic that I thought we'd seen the end of when the original Halo came out.

What I could tell form the demo it does auto generate (takes a long while), sucking up electricity does it faster that's all. Could be wrong though, been a week:p

I don't think health is outdated, as long as it's used in the right way. The game has electricity all around you, just push L1 are you're there. It's not like health packs.

From what ive seen, i would say 7-8 is probably a fair scale. I cant see Prototype fairing any better (well except unless its reviewed by someone else who finds the game amazing...)... so i Hope Tom reviews that game also for a fair reflection.

Not sure if I will get this straight away or leave it a couple of weeks.

It really does depend on how the game uses the system. The replenishing health system is pretty good in a lot of games, but is it automatically a natural evolution? No. Simply because in too many of those game you end up in a shoot without fear and then go for cover to replenish cycle. Some games nail it, but others don't. Other games benefit from a health bar when balanced well with the other elements.

There is room for both because they produce different gameplay. Every game shouldn't use the same method just because it is your personal preference.

Jeez, it's just a review score. On the fence this, won't buy then that. TBH if I raelly want to make an opinion based on E-journalism I just watch a gametrailer, since it provides me with a lot more info on wether or not I'd like something. I can make up my own mind anyway:P

BTW I'm not saying I enjoy EG's reviews the most:D

@DrDamn - no, of course games shouldn't just change to suit me but it's not unreasonable for it to influence whether or not I want to spend my money on it.

The influence of the health system can be minimised just by getting the difficulty settings right, adapting to the player as he or she progresses.

@Dave52,

a 7 here at EG is a good score and I've enjoyed many games that have scored 7/10 on this site.

However, I'd be wary of putting too much faith in the IGN scores. A couple of things go against it for me, the first being that they were given exclusivity and I suspect they give a better score for that.

However, what is true at IGN is that they score PS3 exclusive titles higher than for other platforms. Whether they are PS3 "fanboys" or whether they just prefer the types of games that end up exclusive on the PS3 I don't know, but it's a pretty consistant 4-5 points about the eventual Metacritic average for the PS3, whereas 360 exclusives are pretty much marked in line with the Metacritic average.

Let's not forget that most sites go rabid over xbox exclusives anyway, though. I love my xbox but I honestly don't think gears or halo are any better than uncharted or killzone. I enjoyed uncharted much more than I did Gears. Both awesome games though. I do seem to see many xbox exclusives getting an easy ride just because it's the next game in the Halo series... Just my opinion. This game could be awful for all I know!

7 is lower than I expected, but I loved the demo and still buying it since it reminds me of Crackdown which was great but flawed. Not expecting a genre-defining game or originality - just pure entertainment :)
