inFamous movie on the way
Writer reckons it's "the future of gaming".
Sony Pictures has signed a seven-figure deal to bring inFamous to the big screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a bloke called Sheldon Turner is set to write the script. He previously penned The Longest Yard and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and is working on X-Men Oranges: Magneto.
Avi and Ari Arad have signed up to produce the movie. Their previous credits include The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. They're also producing the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune film announced last month.
inFamous, for those who aren't familiar, follows the adventures of a bloke called Cole who can make lightning come out of his hands like in Star Wars. It scored a highly respectable 7/10 on Eurogamer.
"What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I've come across that had a big idea and a character arc," said Turner.
"It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is."
A release date for the film, announced there has been not.

Yes, Infamous is the future of gaming and game-based movies are the future of film.

I have absolutely zero interest in this film though. What is it with the film industry these days? Are they completely out of new ideas? Everything recently seems to be either a game or comic adaptation and it's getting really boring. I don't think it's an accident that my favourite films of recent times have all been written *as* films (The Fountain, to name one).

@jstar ...Or is this further proof that you have poor taste in games?

There are A LOT of game or comic adaptation films coming out because they pretty much know they will fill seats even if they are crap. However, there are also a lot of great films out there that aren't related to games or comics.

He needs to play more games. POP: Sands of Time springs to mind, and Uncharted too!
I really enjoyed Infamous. It's not genius, but it's very solid and fun. The story is reasonably strong, by game standards, but I doubt it would work as a film.

Far too early to make a movie out of the game imo.

Clearly, Mr. Turner hasn't played very many video games in the last 20 years.
