inFamous 2's Cole re-redesigned

Are you happy now?

Developer Sucker Punch has redesigned inFamous 2 star Cole McGrath so he looks more like he did in the original game, according to a report by IGN.

The version of inFamous' parkour-loving protagonist shown to press at E3 2010 last month had more hair, tattoos and other trendy bits and bobs. Christian Donlan went hands-on for Eurogamer.

In the first game, he was a mere bike messenger. In inFamous 2, not so much. Guess that's what success does for you.

However, IGN has seen two images of Cole's new look for the game's appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con, and reckons "he looks more like the person we played as in the original inFamous and less like the man who was in all of those E3 screens and videos".

inFamous 2 is due out on the PS3 next year. Check Cole – at least the E3 2010 version of Cole – out below.

I’m glad that they’re changing him back and that they listen to the fans, but I’m also a little worried, that, they listen to the fans. In this case I think it’s for the best, but to be honest, I’d rather that the devs just decided amongst themselves what’s best for the game and didn’t listen too too closely to fans.

The first was awesome and the ending topped off a great start to a new franchise. As long as they sort out the jaggies and the repetitive missions this will be top class

2 more years knowledge on the PS3 is going to lead to a better game....I hope

Quite frankly, I'm getting ImPatient waiting for this game!

No. The new voice actor would have been picked because he fitted the new look. It's probably not going to mesh as much now.

I have faith if SP thought that Cole needed this new look, then it's all going to work out in the end. Don't cow tow to a silly internet out cry.

Whos game is this. SP or the internet?

Yeah, bloody devs, listening to the people who buy their games!

It's MUCH better when they ignore feedback totally and just stubbornly decide to do whatever they like despite people screaming at them that it's wrong. Clearly that has been demonstrated time and time again.

    *sarcastic sigh*

When I first saw the screenshots in Games TM I thought it was a new character. It's not the first time it's happened in a game and I'm sure players would adapt pretty quickly once they start playing.

It was odd going from Jason Statham to Ben Affleck though.

Hmm, can you rastify him by 10 percent?
  • sneetch #11 2 years ago

I'm glad he no longer looks like he fell asleep and some kids drew on him.

Odd that people prefered the old design, he was just some generic white guy. Not exactly brimming with style and personality.
The guy from Red Faction, Star Wars Force Unleased, Infamouse, it's all the same.
  • menage #13 2 years ago

Doesn´t matter, for continuity sakes I´m glad this happened.

But that was part of the point, the guy was a nobody who had a bad thing happen to him. I liked the old character and would prefer they go back to that, but a halfway house is better than nothing. I would still have purchased it either way, but as long as he looks less drake like then i am happy.

@ Mogs: except the missions restarting the generators took about 5-10 minutes and gave you cool new powers and the Oblivion Gates could take hours if you're an explorer and gave you sweet FA other than loot you don't want or need.

The storyline was a little out there I'll grant you, but a "bizarre mess" it was not. If by any standard it could be judged a bizarre mess then we'd need to invent new words to describe the storylines of most games, including Infamous' closest rival, Prototype, which really was a mess.

I'd rather games be visions of their creators, not products designed by commity.

Some made an intresting point on gaf. The rough and gritty Cole of inFamous 1 reflected the city he was in. From what we've seen of 2 it looks brighter and more colourful, with the new Cole reflecting this.

I liked the idea of him being redisigned each time. That's quite a comic booky thing. Which I believe is what they want.

You never know, the good bad choices in 2 could alter Cole apperance into non-discript, grey and gruff Cole 1 or chipper, cocky, dude-o Cole 2

Those graphics are pretty nice. Definate improvement.

I dont care what he looks like. The first infamous got so many thngs right and at some points was brilliant, such was just getting from A to B.

It just needed more variety in the missions. Each sub mission needs to be its own thing, not one of a selection of mini games. and the main missions underground felt too similar. It just needs more variety thats all. If it does that then it should be a great game.

Yes! I was very annoyed by the new changes. I didn't hate the changes per se, but they were MASSIVE changes. Slight changes I can deal with. Sure, he could've gotten tattoos in between games, but a new FACE? Nah!

    I absolutely loved inFamous.

Granted, the design of the city and the map was a bit... below average. And some repeating quests were dull ("please, locate and destroy the mechanical bugs on this building";). And some cutscenes were sloppy (lip sync was not all that). But overall I absolutely adored it.

Especially the power ups and the 'bad' storyline; it was quite shocking. I expected some 'good but just not very good' nonsense but Cole went all out and close friends die (by his hand). Excellent work, and I hope inFamous 2 delivers more or the same (in a better designed city ;))

Kudos for listening, for continuity's sake it's a great thing. Was a real shame to redesign in the first place, Cole worked because he was bitter and the ending should of screwed him up more no turned him into Drake.
  • TriggerHippie #21 2 years ago

Does he sound more like he did in the first one too?
  • man.the.king #22 2 years ago

    Thank God!

The E3 Cole gave off too many boy-band vibes...
