inFamous 2 confirmed by Sony

Sucker Punch PS3 exclusive at E3.

Sony has confirmed that inFamous 2 is in development for PlayStation 3 and will be shown off properly at E3 next week.

According to the US official PlayStation Blog, "Sucker Punch has improved every aspect" of its open-world action-adventure.

The game will grace the cover of next month's Game Informer in the US, where protagonist Cole MacGrath can be seen throbbing with electrical energy on a rooftop while a city street burns and tears itself up behind him.

inFamous was released in May 2009 and saw MacGrath struggling to come to terms with his latent superpowers. It played out like a mixture of superhero action and third-person shooter, with a good/evil "karma" system that changed the way the world reacted to the player.

Earlier this year Sony was spotted registering an inFamous 2-related domain, before a Portuguese magazine further blew the game's cover.

We're expecting to see it in action at E3 next week, and it will likely make a splash at Sony's press conference on Tuesday 15th June at 12pm PST / 8pm BST.

Good stuff, I thought the first game was excellent.

Given how much info was already out there about this, Sony aren't very good at keeping secrets.

    @Goodfella - I couldn't agree more.

I recently started a second playthrough on inFamous. I'm enjoying it more now than I did the first time so I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.

    Excellent, loved the first one.

Cole had a second name? Played through Infamous 3 times and never noticed it.

Looking forward to seeing the sequel at E3, apparently Naughty Dog have been helping out a little with animation so this one should be even better than the first.

The first game was great and I'll welcome the sequel for sure but a smoother, more consistent framerate and some much needed AA wouldn't go amiss next time round. Please.

Infamous reminded me a lot of the original Assassin's Creed. It was fun to play but the repetetive mission structure got boring. I'm sure the powers will be awesome but I'd like some variety this time. I'd also like the city to evolve. I know Sucker Punch wanted to focus on the free running but the ability to drive cars wouldn't be a bad one in my book. With all the games Sony are revealing pre-e3, I'm certain they've got some surprises planned. It simply would not make sense to confirm some of your big hitters before a big event unless there was something even bigger planned. Here's hoping.

I do hope Sony has plenty of unleaked stuff up it's sleeves for E3 !

Looking forward to this, the first was a very nice game but this time around, BIGGER
    more devastating effects please :)

@noodle: the logic behind not being able to drive cars was that they would simply blow up when he sat in them. I think.

The original was the reason I brought a PS3. It's an exellent game and if the sequal is anything like the first it'll be in my must buy list.

Actually i think they already knew people would know this was going to be made, so why not tell people its in development... what people want to see is in game stuff :)

All they need to do is improve the in-game cutscene animations. Anything else is a bonus.

    Loved the first.

I really enjoyed this game, though I much prefered the close up action and thought it was a shame when he could control his electric discharge over very long range. I liked the mix between stealth and devastation that could be unleashed.

Liked the first one quite a bit. Played through it twice and did most of the shard-hunting stuff. Controls were excellent but I wish they'd look at GTAIV and Red Dead for some input on how to make the environment really come to life. Also, yeah the missions did get repetitive after a while.

Certainly a better game than Prototype (which was out at the same time) but that game had a better game enging for just running around creating chaos. Hope Infamous 2 lets you do that.

Oh yeah, and please make Cole a more interesting character. In the first one he was just soooo damn generic and boring (tho his voice actor did a great job).

Yes i agree, cant wait for it... really enjoyed it..... i really liked the voice actor, but i believe they have replaced him for In2... which is a shame. The shards were a pain, especially the last two or three, the map had a legend that there was a shard icon, but it didnt appear... next time have some method of knowing the general area of missing shards (dont want to have to find them in the same way in 2).

OMG, OMG, OMGosh!!! I LOVED the first one, pre-ordered it and didn't look back (despite some negative reviews, even on this site).

I wish I got paid to play games, haha...just too much good stuff out there, right now - I'll never get caught up. I'm playing Assassin's Creed, right now, for crying out loud!
