Inafune denies Dead Rising 2 News

Xbox 360 News by Kristan Reed

27 July, 2007

Capcom producer Keiji Inafune says work on a sequel to Dead Rising has not yet commenced, despite it being the title he would most like to work on. Aw.

In an interview with Game Informer, Inafune said: "Dead Rising 2...is something I would love to make [but] we're not making it right now."

The news will certainly come as a disappointment for fans of the chart-topping Xbox 360 exclusive, especially after comments by Capcom's Mark Beaumont earlier this year in which he stated that the company was keen to "establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come".

That said, Inafune did admit: "If [Dead Rising 2] was announced, I might be the one back in Japan making it.

"That's the title that they're considering back in Capcom Japan that I would want to produce the most, out of anything they're thinking about. That's how much I really love it. But I'm very busy," he added.

So. In summary: Inafune-san - stop being busy and get back to making games that we want to play! Thank you. Love, Eurogamer.

He literally confirmed that there would be dancing zombies in DR2, so I'm pretty sure, nope 100% sure, this story is all lies.

The one save system encouraged you to explore around, and make mistakes and you can restart as many time as you want, with ever improving stats.
So each go at the game become more easier as more game time pass, and you can also work out how to best use the time available to do what by trial and errors from previous attempts.

Normal save system would just kill that style dead, then game would be more frustrating really, as you would try to force your way through to the end with lower and inadequate stats, not to mention trying in futile to take in all the objectives against the relentless ticking clock.

I accept that it is not for everyone taste, but that system is what made the game work. I would hope that this would stay in Dead Rising 2 but perhaps adding a new mode 'ninja dog' type to allow gamer to opt for multi save but they lose something in return!!

The save sytem was fine, it was the clock which irritated me. Waiting till a certain time hits isn't fun. You should be able to fast forward like in Oblivion or something.

Only having one save slot was a very clever move. Placing save points so far apart, and forcing you to play the same sections over and over before you stand a chance of finishing the game, not so clever.

Dead Rising has an excellent concept, but there's still plenty that could be improved in the execution.

Yes, imagine if they had to balance the game so it was doable on the first playthrough! Far better just to force people to grind the first couple of hours play over and over again.

But isn't that how games used to be?

I remember playing Rick Danerous on the ZX Spectrum and I lost count how many times I done the first few levels.

It kind of gives a real view of how game challenges have evolved.

it wasn't a real grind though - you just played, had fun, explored levelled up, tackled objectives and then took on the story as an weh you wanted - I played through without too much levelling and had a nice challenge then played again really enjoying my new power.

I do wish you could save in the differant modes though. Being part way through trying to complete the ture ending without being knocked down was frustrating and I had a huge pause in playing which I wouldn't have had if I could've messed about in the main game in the mall. hmm.., but then that'd throw the levelling out a bit - grrr

not a perfect save system, but probably about right - if only the human AI and pathfinding was improved

edited to say +1 on the - sequal yes please now please - front with side order of online co-op request

Would love a sequel, but I'd want the same production team. Don't want to see any hamfisted cash-ins on the name only. I really appreciated the change in playing style the save system forced me to adopt. You get out of this game what you put in, so if your hanging about doing nothing and getting bored - it's only your own fault.

It's crying out for some online action, co-op survival?

How on earth could you describe hitting countless zombies in the face with sharp implements as a grind? I loved the original, I still play it every now and then even though I've seen and done pretty much everything.

This is one game that's screaming for a sequel, though I'm not sure exactly where it should be set. I'm guessing it wouldn't be set in another shopping center, but then a large part of the fun of the first one was walking into store and picking up new weapons from the shelves.

Oh and if there is a sequel, some kind of online co-op would be godly!

Why would you want to fast forward when there were thousands of zombies begging to be killed?

Another vote for a sequel, preferably with co-op play (we got this by the ass).

Thinking about it dropping conversations down to an impossible-to-read-on-my-crt text prompt was pretty infuriating (don't get me started on otis). I did miss not getting any audio during these interactions - which spoilt the magic for me a bit. Would've like a bit of ott voice acting; one of the things so very memorable from the truly godly system shock.

Also more variety on the hostage rescues, who were all very dumb and couldn't find their way down an moving escalator without help. No real puzzles expect how to go about getting a fat guy off a giant bunny statue. Did feel robbed of any payoff for rescuing ppl, both via the true ending and them not really contributing to the story any further - could've done from someone watching my back from time to time.

Don' get me wrong, I loved the game for the first few hours of play - but I've stopped playing it and don't have the patience to go back to it at all because, as Mr. Whitehead said, "Placing save points so far apart, and forcing you to play the same sections over and over before you stand a chance of finishing the game, not so clever"

It ruined the game for me really, which is a shame as it's generally good fun to play!

Maybe there's something wrong with me and not the save system?

Eeek! =O

*possible spoilers if you have never played dead rising, and intend to do so one day*

you are not supposed to complete the game on the first play through, thats why the game from start to finish is only 6 hours long, its meant to be played through more than once. On your first play through you wont know where any of the essential weapons and books or even best food is for that matter, these are all things you learn the more you play the game.

Anyway, there are so many ways to play that you cant really complain, you even get an ending if you just wait in the security office for 6 hours and wait for the chopper dude to pick you up again. I dont understand people that say the save points are too far apart, there is a save point in every major area of the game, and it takes you 5 mins at most to get from 1 save point to another, if you play for hours and forget to save thats your mistake, not the games. Besides if you carry some food with you you can eat it to regen health, so ifyou are about to die and not near any save points just eat and get out of trouble.

I have to say that I didnt really enjoy DR on the first play through or 2/3rds play through. It felt quite restrictive be here by then do this or game over effectively. However when I went back to it and played it again the penny dropped about how exploration was the name of the game not just all about running from point to point doing tasks as they come up. Im on about my fourth play through now and am going for the zombie genocide achievement which despite being done by just jumping in a car and zooming through the tunnels for some reason doesnt ever get boring.

Yeah set it in a deserted London, have it all online, make it a zombie MMORPG where you can get infected by zombies, have your character become one, and then you go around as a zombie for a bit, infecting other players.

It took me a while, but when I finally "got" the save system in the original, it became one of my favourites on the 360. reading this had made me want to play it again actually, I never did complete Overtime Mode. Bastard SWAT..........

I'd love for the sequel to have a free-for-all mode with toggle-able cheats like invincibility and spawn weapons etc a la Keys To The City From Crackdown. Killing zombies is such good fun, and such great stress relief that it felt like a missed opportunity in the original not to have such a mode

Please, oh please, make a Dead Rising sequel or at least a Dead Rising Redux or something with all the bugs and design issues fixed. I'm salivating for a properly designed game that uses the basic concepts of Dead Rising. It's one of those games that felt like a huge tease.

PS. And adding an answer to the gaming connoisseurs who are hardcore enough to enjoy the saving system and other design "flaws" - why not have a version with couple of different difficult levels or choices of gameplay? I'm not proficient enough to play a game that is as hard as Dead Rising in its current state, but I would have loved to complete it and not just leave it too soon.

For all those who dont like the save system & timer, as ElectricDemon said, once you 'get it' it is genius.

Also, Electric Demon, make the effort to beat the swat, it is totally worth it. (If you go into the storeroom from the roof without taking the lift, then snipe them from the top of the shelving units they cant shoot you. then you take their guns and batter everyone. Its well worth it as the ending is sweet.
