Impossible Mission to hit Wii

First non VC title in Wii Shop.

Impossible Mission will be the first non Virtual Console title to be downloadable from the Wii Shop Channel.

Confirmation came from the pages of the official Nintendo Power magazine, backed up by Nintendo UK.

The remake of the classic Commodore 64 game was announced earlier this year. System 3 will be re-writing the game for today's technology, but will include a retro mode if you wish to lose yourself in gaming's glorious past.

The aim of Impossible Mission is to explore an evil professor's stronghold and put an end to his tampering with national computers. You'll have to race against the clock to search for pieces of a password to gain access to his inner-chambers, whilst avoiding deadly robots and collecting various power-ups.

It's also due out on PS2, PSP, and DS and is expected this summer.

LOL man... just look at the time of our posts!!!
• jonsaan #5 5 years ago

I was always though the original was a bit poop.

No details on the price at the moment, I'm afraid.

Point point :D

Well, I'd chalk this up as another win for the angle Nintendo took with this. While the XBLA is still bogged down by mobile phone remakes every week and absolutely archaic "classic" games that noone in their right mind would wanna play, the Virtual Console ensures 5ish "real" games a week (of which at least two are usually great) while also embracing new games like this.
• chupachups #8 5 years ago

I hope they make sure this is a version you can complete. Some of the Impossible Mission releases really were impossible because there were vital bits of the game missing.

As far as I'm aware it was always planned / mooted to have this sort of sales on the Wii, the question was a) when and b) how. And probably c) where, because there's not that much space on the wiis' memory.

lol, I thought this was about Mission Impossible

i reckon this'll be about 2000 wii points ( which i think is about 15 quid)..
• septimus #13 5 years ago

Yeah great idea.... to play bigger games you have to piss about transfering games to and from sd card constantly.

Damn I hate the Wii, think I'll kick mine out of a window when I get home and claim it.*

*Not actually going to do that*

• Tonka #14 5 years ago

That rumoured USB HDD sounds more and more plausible.

As long as it says "Stay a while..... Stay forever!!!!" when you start i'm in.
• Weezer #16 5 years ago

One of the few games I ever finished. Ah... memories (of not being shit at games).

Im just glad that none VC style is opening up.

Wonder if Sam and Max will use this?
• playgen #20 5 years ago

Since the game is also coming out on DS and PS2 - don't expect the Wii download to be cheap.
• monkie_king #21 5 years ago

yeah, but you're cutting out the whole retail chain with its ~100% markup, also distribution and manufacturing costs etc.

How do Steam prices compare to their boxed-copy equivalents?

/searches in a wastepaper basket
/somersaults over robot
/falls through hole in floor
/bloodcurdling scream
• lasermink #22 5 years ago

I completed the C64 original several times, with no cheating - so Wrongest. Title. Ever.

More importantly, I've never seen another version that didn't somehow feel "wrong".

Bout the same, unless it's a really old title.

The whole downloadable content will be cheaper argument doesn't work out

Didn't someone do Impossible Mission 2000 (something like that) for the Amiga? I'm sure I've played an "update" to the original classic before. Still, as long as they don't charge silly amounts of points for this (and as long as it isn't too massive a file size) I reckon I'd be willing to give it a try.
• funkyd #25 5 years ago

I'm related to someone who was on the team that made Impossible Mission 2025.
• soanso #26 5 years ago

Oh! System 3 remakes!
Any chance of Last Ninja from the Amiga remade?
Also a wrong title as there was about 4 of them.

The VC would be perfect for episodic games too. Things like that Farenheit game from a few years ago. I think in the end they ditched the episodic elements for that as it just wasn't going to work on a PS2 or on Xbox Live at that time.

It'd work today.
• Hypnopedia #27 5 years ago

>Any chance of Last Ninja from the Amiga remade?

Wasn't this a C64 title originally - gorgeous but a multi-load pain in the backside!!

Great music.
• CallousB #28 5 years ago

"Any chance of Last Ninja from the Amiga remade?"

It's already listed for Wii, PS2 and PSP at Amazon.
• Psi #29 5 years ago

thought last ninja was coming to ds
• thiswaynow #30 5 years ago

I seem to remember this was a top game... mind you, it was a few years ago now... wow, make that 23 years ago! The 'voice' work was really something else, as the posters at the top of this thread allude to...

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
• Wyrm #31 5 years ago

More of this kind of thing.

Regarding the HDD though...wouldn't it be possible for Nintendo to release firmware to just unlock the SD card dock to run games from? This would come across as less of a 'oops we messed up with the design here' decision that a HDD addon would be.
• spidermanalf #32 5 years ago

Ooooh System 3! We may get Last Ninja and Myth!

They were ace!
• Pirotic #33 5 years ago

"System 3 will be re-writing the game for today's technology"

for almost 5 year old technology you mean? ;)
• thedaveeyres #34 5 years ago

YEEEEEEESSSSS!!

What a frigging great game it was.
• smelly #35 5 years ago

I seem to remember there was lots of ways to finish this game.. The REALLY easy way was the way i always managed.. But there was a hard way too with the "real" ending - which i remember to be impossible :-)

Cant remember a hell of a lot about it tbh. I remember there was a lot of shape puzzles to be done, etc.

If it's cheap, i'll get.
• smelly #36 5 years ago

Remember they've also promised california games and last ninja to be remade for the VC too!

Cant wait! Especially CF games.

I wouldnt mind seeing a remake of their super putty game too.

• 3william56 #38 5 years ago

Ah. Wondered where they got the plot for Die Hard 4 from.
• arty #39 5 years ago

So bored of everyone trotting out old tat, XBL is full of it already. (yes it was a good game, but good 20 years ago).
• Dougs #40 5 years ago

Personally, I'd prefer System3 to get on with Leaderboard and Masters Tennis!

Remember this though, don't think I ever completed it. I thought it was rock hard. But then I am a bit rubbish at games really.
• smelly #41 5 years ago

>So bored of everyone trotting out old tat,

Old doesnt necesarily mean tat.

Par example : Zelda LTTP and the original mario games are old.. but still hold their own when compared against modern games
• FunkYellowMonkey #42 5 years ago

Another visitor, stay awhile, stay forever!

Those haunting words are forever etched in me head!

Best platformer ever on the C64, best audio/sound - beat the game twice and later on done it again on the Master system too, pure classic gaming!

DESTROY HIM, MY ROBOTS!

I completed the C64 original several times, with no cheating - so Wrongest. Title. Ever.

No, Final Fantasy sequels have that. What's "final" about something that gets a sequel? Huh?

That said, I have the C64 "stick" so not only can I play Impossible Mission at the very cheap whenever I want, I can also play Uridium, Paradroid and a ton of others.

Bah, I predict the chickens even put a save feature in the Wii remake.
• smelly #44 5 years ago

Thats because final fantasy was supposed to have been squares last game before declaring bankrupcy.

But it sold well, and pulled them out of their financial problems.
• msephton #45 5 years ago

If was unsure about buying such a budget title from the shop, I'll definitely buy it from the VC if the price is reasonable.

edit: typo
