ICO creator to speak at Nordic Game 08 News

PlayStation 2 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

6 May, 2008

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda has been confirmed as a speaker at Nordic Game 2008.

He will be discussing creative innovation and new game niches at the disruptive design session, and maybe shed a little more light on what he is working on; is it is it not "ICO 3"?

Joining Ueda in the session will be Siren and Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama, Rock Band lead designer Rob Kay, and Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades.

Nordic Game is an event for the games industry and media that is held in Sweden from 14th to 15th May.

Pop over to the official Nordic Game site for a full list of speakers and plenty more information about the event.

Disruptive design, I hope by that they mean avoiding the perceived rules that games have to follow. Like a game about nothing but boss battles without the random generic cannon fodder enemies that you'd have in a normal game.

Is EG sending anyone over to Sweden, may prove to be quite an interesting talk.

I'm not sure what the EG plans are for Nordic Game, but GamesIndustry.biz will be there with bells and whistles on.

I'd love some more games like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. There are too few innovative games that offer mystery and awe as much as those two do. Any such news on similar games being in development would make me very happy.

We'll have a couple of people at the event, so yes there will be coverage!

I'm going too. But only for the Vodka.

There is nothing, nothing that excites me more than another Team ICO project. More than MGS4, more than LBP, more than HL2:Ep3, even.

There is a debate somewhere that states that it is the games that make the console, not that hardware - and I agree with that. In this case it was ICO that singlehandedly persuaded me to buy a PS2 a few years back, and it was playing Deus Ex on the PS2 that made me switch to the Xbox platform simply so that I could play Deus Ex 2 (I had to borrow a PS2 to play Shadow of the colossus).

Since then I've not really seen anything that would persuade me to switch back from MS to Sony, but a new Team ICO project has my ears pricked right up.

More news ASAP please EG!!!
