Sony Japan has released the first image associated with the PS3 game Team ICO is working on.

The looks-a-bit-conceptual picture appears on the official site above job adverts for planners, animators, artists and effects designers.

We're only telling you about this because you keep emailing us claiming it confirms the existence of a new game. Which it doesn't really - it's a drawing of a chain going down a hole in the middle of a circular stone floor.

Team ICO Gamers first spotted it and has now been looking at it for hours, concluding that the shadow in the upper portion of the picture is cast by something shackled to the chain.

"Something or someone is imprisoned down there," states Team ICO Gamers. Dramatically. Probably using ketchup as fake blood.

What do you think is hiding at the end of the chain, Eurogamer reader? Extra points and maybe an invisible prize for ingenuity.

ICO 3 doesn't mean it's a sequel to the first two games. It's just a codename which says this is Team ICO's third project. After all Shadow of the Colossus was called ICO 2 for the briefest of times when Sony didn't yet know what to call the game over here. Plus that's what we used to call it until it was given a proper name.

I think it's the Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss David Reeves that is shackled up on the chain. No one can stop him starting big flame wars with Xbox fans so Sony have shoved him down a dark hole in the hope that he'll STFU.

I have just got back in to playing SotC and having a monster battle with a colossi is just something amazing. Totally beats the crap out of the bunch of generic games out there. Although I agree with neuroniky, the frame rate need to be massively improved.

Please - you guys are cocks! ICO1 was a truly stunning game, I didn't need some twat spitter to tell me that. The fact that you spurn and hate PS3 shouldn't let your feeble brains get clouded by the possible existance fo a PS3 version. If you wanks can't get remotely excited by this then frankly I wonder what ball'less editor you have! Why don't you start hiring some real contributors who aren't affected by the popular "anti-PS3" culture - you dickless wonders have had your moment in the spotlight, now get the fuck back to your bedrooms where you belong. Or what if, get this christotten, your verdict of something isn't the be all and end all of opinions, and actually just because you like a title doesn't mean every other person in the world has to like it too.
Chillax my friend, calm thyself, and cease the furious ranting. I tried both ICO and SOTC, and they weren't for me, beautiful to look at yes, thrilling to play? Not remotely.

@captainrentboy: that's one of the most interesting things about Team Ico's games. The actual gameplay taken in isolation is exceedingly average. Both games have poor controls, a frustrating camera, and if they weren't Team Ico games we probably wouldn't even give them the time of day.

The point is that there is so much more to them than that. They are much, much greater than the sum of their parts.

You know what's chained up in the dark in that image? Potential. The sort of potential that will convince a lot of people to buy a PS3 (myself included) when that potential is released.
