In honour of the title of this article, I can now (using some subtly modified dialogue from the film Being John Malkovich) unvail the inner workings of Colin McRae's mind:

McRae. McRae McRae.

McRae McRae. McRae McRae McRae.

Why do we have to be Colin in the career mode?

I'd rather be driving the Subaru...

I presume it is because they wanted to focus more on one individual driver and his team, trying to create the same depth they are talking about for the entire WRC would be difficult.

I'm sure that's true, but for me, part of the fun of driving games is the ability to drive a load of different cars - it adds variety to the game. Okay, sure you can drive all the cars in the arcade type modes, but the career mode actually sounds a bit limited in scope, despite the fact that there's loads of depth there. If you've won it once is there any incentive to play again with the same car?

At the end of the day I don't really give a toss who voiced the pace notes as long as I can understand them. It just doesn't sound as *fun* as I'd hoped.

I agree, my favourite memories of Colin McRae is the first game when i got hold of the RS200, finishing the game with a souped up and banned car was a great deal of fun.

Incentive to play again also limits their scope for sequels, why would they give you a game and give you longevity, that would impair the profit.

The fun element will always become less apparent when the games move more over to simulation, I am sure when Colin is driving on the edge of a cliff at 100+ mph he isn't having very much fun either ;)

sounds good, wish it was Xbox only though.. PS2 is obviously holding it back slighty as the two versions are so similar.

Care to quantify that, is there any evidence behind your statement?

Whatever anyone thinks of the PS2, if a software house actually wants to make money from console games, ignoring the Sony machine is probably the most stupid way of doing it.

So you think if they had to calculate with the profit they'd make when bringing it exclusive to the Xbox you'd get a better game?

Btw, wait a few months, and you will hear exactly this statement, just replace "Xbox" with "PC" and "PS2" with "Xbox".

I seem to remember it took bloody ages to get to PC! Good job it did though, it was a proper port that actually took advantage of the PC.

It did, although it was occasionally buggy they did a damn fine job of porting it, not like GTA3 which hardware wise was appalling and lambasted by nearly all PC users that i have come into contact with.

GTA3 Works just fine on my middle of the road PC. I'm not sure what complaints people might be having...

I had very few problems with GTA3 on my PC, except for that blocky graphics problem nearly everyone had.

Also, everyone should look at side-by-side screenshots that show the mountain pass. The PS2 version has pea-soup/N64 textures, whereas the Xbox shows a clear, higher-res mountainside.

Quite obvious in those specific shots, at least.

Ah, I can see the Daily Star headline now: "Xbox in better-than-PS2-graphics shocker"

I'm confused...

RtMaster reckons the XBox version is held back by the PS2 version, while ZeroGunner 'clearly' demonstrates that the XBox graphics are in fact better than the PS2.

What's it going to be then eh ?

Also, I have a plan: only buy it for the platform that it looks better on. Genius.

That's assuming that graphics are the only criteria by which you judge a game. I mean, the XBox controls could be ass, but as long as it looks good, huh ?
