Incidentally, for those of you going "oi! Stop republishing GI interviews and get your own bloody content!", we are set to most more of our own bloody content later. I just need to sort this thing out with a guy first. Y'know.

I'm not sure about the paid expansions to WoW... how would that work? WoW is the first game of its sort I've ever played, so maybe this is common but it sort of seems to me that we're all paying cash each month to log on, and providing free content is a good way of keeping everyone loyal.

F'r instance, the penny-arcade guys were talking about how BattleGrounds got them back into WoW again, and there were similar comments in the EG forum thread. If people had had to pay for it, I doubt this would have happened.

Y'know, I don't even need a Starcraft 2. Just another expansion for Starcraft 1 would do me. More Starcraft please!

Although of course SC2 would be nice...

I think I may have to get a blizzard fan boy t-shirt soon...

Expansion work for MMORPG's like almost any other game. You like the current game but you have finnished all or most of the interesting stuff. You want more.

Expansions provide more.

So no questions about the departures of WoW developers to NCSoft and whether that was responsible for the patch delays? Or no realm forums on the Europe site? Or no events on the European servers? Or the u-turns on naming policies and server languages?

Battlegrounds were packed the last few days. Unfortunately it takes two teams to PvP, and given that most servers have an imbalance in player numbers between Horde and Alliance that means if you're on the "wrong" side you're going to be waiting a long time to get in.

Didn't most of the Diablo team end up leaving and are now doing Hellgate: London? Which sounds like it could shape up into something special..

Universe of Starcraft would very well rock though.

richispsycho: yeah, but my point was that MMORPG's *aren't* like other games (in my limited experience of MMORPGs obviously). Surely they're making a bundle of cash because people keep paying subscription fees... and giving away free updates is a way to keep people hooked, people who otherwise will eventually cancel and play something else. Dunno - just how it seems to me anyway (especially when you think that the cost of the expansion is 2-3 months worth of subscription)

Well, most mmorpg devs give away some free content now and then. It could be a minor dungeon, some new equipment etc etc. An expansion on the other hand is expected to be something bigger.. Usually involves a whole set of new zones, new race/class/profession, new level cap, a whole bunch of new weapons and stuff etc etc. That requires a lot more planning/development/testing/balancing/tweaking so at least I like to think that it justifies a new expansion cost for the players.

So, when are Blizzard going to connect the EU and US servers together like they always promised?

Still waiting.

They make expansions for MMOGs to keep the game in the gaming press and on shop shelves.

As the case is with Everquest for examples, more areas are added to the game world, only accissible by those with the expansion set. While those without the expansion can enjoy the original parts of the game without shelling out money for another retail box.

From what I've heard...they will be adding two huge islands, and a level cap of 90. which is something I need as I'm fast approching the higher levels.

The only thing that i'm worried about with Starcraft 2, is that most the original team members who developed Diablo and Starcraft have moved to pastures new. I'm afraid that SC2 won't live up to the inevitable hype.

Do the graphics look any better than the PC, or even XBox original for that matter.

They wowed us initially, and I knew developers just WONT be able to produce stunning graphics for most games, for a good while yet.

Dont think all this money people will throw at "next gen" consoles at release will be worth it AT ALL, and will be disappointed with the 360 and PS3 initially.

SC2 :D

D3 would be nice 2 though. But the story line is kinda dead (it more or less ended with act 5).

"World of Starcraft" - Mehehehe. Funny. Could be closer to the truth than we could imagine though :\
