Hudson Wii sports game News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

4 January, 2008

Hudson has probably decided it has probably been long enough since Wii Sports arrived to probably offer its own version, probably.

Dubbed Deca Sports, it offers a selection of events all controlled uniquely by waving your arms in funny ways. In Figure Skating (yes it is very popular) you time your jumps and wrist spins properly to impress the judges, for instance, while in in Snowboard Cross you twist your Wiimote to guide your slippery slider down the slopes.

In total there are 10 pursuits to pursue: Beach Volleyball, Snowboard Cross, Badminton, Basketball, Curling, Figure Skating, Archery, Supercross, Soccer and Kart Racing.

"We have seen tremendous growth in the casual sports gaming market in the last few years, and saw an opportunity that would be a perfect fit for the Nintendo Wii," said John Greiner, boss of Hudson, highlighting the reason why many are frustrated with the console.

Unlike Wii Sports you will not be able to use your Mii in the events, judging by the screenshots, although the characters look scarily similar anyway.

Deca Sports is due out this summer. Pop over to our gallery for the first shots.

Not really inspired by those screenshots. I think I'm much more likely to wait for Wii Sports 2.

Always thought curling would work...though I don't imagine it being that exciting. Badminton could be fun. Apart from that its all not that interesting. Wii Sports will still be more popular because of one thing...tennis.

No Mii use?

For shame. I smell a cynical cash-in. Hope I'm wrong.

Nintendo still dont allow use of Mii's to third party games so its not a surprise at all really.

Well that must have made FIFA 08 a dream then - not a brilliant dream mind! lol

I'm still amazed (no, staggered) that some decent genuine sports titles haven't showed up for the Wii yet, not much even seems to be in development.

A proper tennis sim would surely be a dead-cert success if it improves upon Wii Sports Tennis (i.e. offers tournaments, longer games etc), not to mention cricket, baseball etc.

what a weird selection of sports. seems like it was meant to be some kind of Winter Olympics cash-in, but then they thought "screw it, let's put kart racing in there. and badminton".

Hudson just GIVE IT UP. Release the a decent bomberman (atomic) game for all the consoles, with 8 player support and stop fannying around with shit like this that no-one will buy or care about.

Bomberman ftw. With Miis for a bonus.

SORT IT OUT HUDSON YOU BEE OBSESSED YOKELS.

because it is called Sports Island, in Europe. But Hudson issued a press release for the US version (which is still called Deca Sports) last night, and evidently no one at EG noticed that they'd already reported on the Euro version.

Third parties can use Miis, too...FIFA and Madden both did.

Not that it would make the blindest bit of difference to the inevitable wretchedness of this title, anyway.
