No word on Olyphant's return though.

20th Century Fox has revealed plans for a second film based on IO Interactive's spy series Hitman.

Spanish director Daniel Benmayor will steer the project, according to Deadline (via Kotaku). Benmayor's previous work includes the film Paintball as well as commercials for PlayStation, Renault, Mercedes, Heineken and Samsung. Benmayor has just finished work on Bruc for release this autumn.

Star of the first Hitman film, Timothy Olyphant, is unconfirmed for a return.

The Hitman film was released in 2007 and scored badly with critics. However, ticket sales were high and the picture grossed $100m worldwide; a healthy return on a $30m budget.

Hitman game developer IO Interactive is currently hard at work on Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. But Square Enix has earmarked Hitman as a core 'AAA' licence, suggesting future iterations are likely.

The last game was Hitman: Blood Money, upscaled from last generation to Xbox 360 in May 2006. Eurogamer's Hitman: Blood Money review has the full story.

I found the first movie an enjoyable flick. Nothing that sets the world on fire, but enjoyable. Worlds apart from anything Uwe Boll ever made.

main reason i thought the first one sucked because it wasn't hitman.

Hitman is a stealth game, dress up get undercover to infiltrate and silent kills.

Hitman was all guns blazing hardly anything special. While i enjoyed the film is wasn't "Hitman" as I see it in the games.

The first one was decent enough, could've been better but could also been a lot wors-SWORDFIGHT!

Th first film was good IMO, compared to much of the early game to film ilk, but could have been better. It was always going to difficult, because in the games, Agent 47 is quite a cardboard character. Though IO took some influence from the likes of Golgo 13 and Leon, they forgot to give the character some/enough personality. And when a charcater is largely cut off from other normal people, it makes it an obstacle to like and appreciate them.

Whether they build on the films interpretation for the games, should be interersting, especially after how much tech has moved on since the Xbox. Since there's been no Leon successor sequel ( a crime in itself), they have little influence to draw from.

Either way, I'm in support of this film, and pray it gets the 18 cert it should. In contrast, the RE films I'm personally done with, as they are the height of bilge. However, if they get Capcom extra money to use for games, that's fine.

They really need to get the same guy back again.

Example of why :- Anyone remember the excellent Punisher movie with Thomas Jane, and the appalling follow up ? It was crap 'cos it didn't have Jane in it y'see? You did get that didn't you ?......
