Looks sweet, much better than the huge original PSP.

    But no touch screen?

Not really a fan... Sony probably know what they're doing though... Don't they?
  • El_MUERkO #5 3 years ago

    1 nub!

    1

    WHY?!

    WWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!!!
  • Widge #6 3 years ago

BECAUSE IT IS STILL A PSP NOT A PSP2 OR HAVE WE NOT GOT THAT YET
  • Eraysor #7 3 years ago

No purchase from me thanks to the ever-elusive 2nd analog stick.
  • ElNino9 #8 3 years ago

    Looks a bit gash IMO
  • Widge #9 3 years ago

Whereas all the people who own a PSP with one nub on it are relieved that they will still be able to play all the games available. Seriously, are people not understanding this.

I know, lets release a 360 with built in bluray and from now on all games come out on bluray only. Everyone with no bluray wouldn't mind about that would they?
  • Widge #10 3 years ago

On topic: the nub new positioning looks horrible.
  • CallousB #11 3 years ago

    "But no touch screen?"

Maybe they have yet to announce that?

It would seem foolish not to include one seeing how popular they currently are on other platforms...you'd assume that as it's a download only system that touchscreen games would be an obvious extra (as there will obviosuly be plenty of games which won't get a retail release now).
  • ianegg #12 3 years ago

Have Sony ever heard of ergonomics...
  • tobi #13 3 years ago

  • space_ace #14 3 years ago

  • david78 #15 3 years ago

it's growing on me the more I look at it. The nub also looks fine, the machine looks only a bit bigger than an iPhone, so reaching the nub should be easy.
  • jeebthegreat #16 3 years ago

Hit and miss I think, looks okay but not as svelte at the slimline psp's...the analog nub looks like it's in a dodgy position for starters, and when it's open the whole thing just looks...well, horrible?
  • kissthestick #17 3 years ago

i feel sorry for sony, these comments must be making them cry
  • Chupakun #18 3 years ago

Lame. I was looking forward to it but the design doesn't look like it lends itself to comfortable gaming. I'd laugh if this were some elaborately constructed ruse, however.
  • owl #19 3 years ago

    @widge

i think the point is that they shouldn't be making new hardware based on what was pretty much a stunted design (only one analogue thingamajig). it's so similar as to be almost pointless. they should realise the money is in cannabilizing their own market. as a psp owner i would have probably bought a new dual analogue psp. but this? no thanks bucko.

so, that leaves the question, who is going to actually want one?
  • DavidBoring #20 3 years ago

    those hands look creepy
  • PrivateJoker #21 3 years ago

'i feel sorry for Sony, these comments must be making them cry '

lol...I doubt it, Eurogamer has always been the home of the Xbot wankers. The comments day in and day out on here reek of pre-pubescent ignorance thats pathetic...

Not a single comment ever on here will make a blind bit of difference to anything. Sony have been comfortably on a roll for years now and i'm looking forward to a successful E3.
  • Turambar #22 3 years ago

"so, that leaves the question, who is going to actually want one? "

    Japanese people.
  • callum9999 #23 3 years ago

    Not exactly.

I love my current PSP (phat) and PS3, dislike the XBOX360 and hate the DS. After discovering that this is what the new PSP is going to look like, I'm just going to get the PSP 3000 - there is no way I would ever pay for this model.
  • Turambar #24 3 years ago

    Wait.... No removable battery?
  • owl #25 3 years ago

    MY HAND
  • callum9999 #27 3 years ago

Sorry Owl! I'm sure there are some good points I've never noticed with the DS though!
  • YourMessageHere #28 3 years ago

That really is an awesomely bad bit of hardware. Get a PSP, fix none of its problems apart from internal memory, add needless slidiness for extra fragility, remove backwards compatibility, remove changeable batteries, and move the controls so they are even less pleasant. There's no way I'll ever entertain one of these. I mean, WTF is the point in having the screen slide over the controls? Does having the controls on either side somehow make it harder to see? I never noticed that, strangely.
  • Xerx3s #29 3 years ago

"lol...I doubt it, Eurogamer has always been the home of the Xbot wankers. The comments day in and day out on here reek of pre-pubescent ignorance thats pathetic..."

Oke... The fanboys have always been evenly distributed here. But hey, whatever rocks your boat right?

"Not a single comment ever on here will make a blind bit of difference to anything. Sony have been comfortably on a roll for years now and i'm looking forward to a successful E3."

Heh. They are anything but "comfortably" on a roll for years. I think irony is the word though.
  • lavalant #30 3 years ago

Might pick one up...when its hacked and got tons of homebrew and emulators, that's the only good thing about the existing PSP anyway. But it does look pretty sleek.
  • owl #31 3 years ago

that's okay callum, at least you dislike the 360!!

    (JOKE)
  • mandella #32 3 years ago

    Well, I have two conclusions:

    1. If you are a person playing only legal games new PSP is something you can look for - providing that Sony will defend it with good games and you do not already have PSP.

    2. If you are using illegal software new PSP is "meh" product for you - you will be sticking with PSP 2000.

IMHO new PSP is not really needed, because it's not the console itself that is the problem - it's the games. We have almost half a year gone and look at PSP lineup: 1 good game, being R: Retribution. Seriously, does Sony think that launching new PSP will somehow miraculously make this console come alive? PSP 2000/3000 is really good piece of software which was really fucked up by Sony in terms of support - launching new PSP won't change it, imho.

Basically, another money sink by Sony.

  • byron_hinson #33 3 years ago

I have the PSP and really like it - but this redesign looks like it will be very awkward to use - the control set seems in really bad positions.
  • prettyboytim #34 3 years ago

I like the look of it. It looks like it could now actually be pocketable.

My guess is that without the UMD drive hardware this thing could work out to be a fair bit cheaper than current PSP models. What if it was £99 for a 8Gb 'value' pack?
  • JahB #35 3 years ago

a redesign and no second nub? fail.
  • NotSoSlim #36 3 years ago

People complaining but if the 8gb is £99 i bet most of those people will think about buying it.
  • MyPointIs #37 3 years ago

Shitty ergonomics indeed (can't believe where they placed the nub!!!). Hidden battery. No UMD. And likely more fragile than the solid one.

    FAIL. FAIL. FAIL.

    Damn you SONY! :(
  • callum9999 #38 3 years ago

NotSoSlim - I wouldn't get it for half that. With the analogue stick positioned where it is, it will be very difficult to use regularly without hurting you thumb.
  • Liamario #39 3 years ago

Come on now people. You can't really expect them to add a second analogue stick- it'll render all other psp's obsolete. It's not a new PSP anyways, it's just a redesign. The design does seem completely pointless unless they've added a touch screen, which so far doesn't seem to be the case
  • MyPointIs #40 3 years ago

"You can't really expect them to add a second analogue stick- it'll render all other psp's obsolete"

Isn't that reasoning like saying; Come on, you can't really expect them to remove the UMD - it'll render all your games obsolete.

Edit: I mean, Nintendo has been doing incremental improvements to Gameboy hardware for ages!

    Funny you should say that.

    The irony is delicious.
  • DanC89 #44 3 years ago

Fake, surely..because if it isn't it looks like the most awkward piece of handheld design ever, taking the original PSP's crown.
  • naffers #45 3 years ago

How hard is it to put 2 analog sticks on it! if they did that they would sell so many more, due to the face people would actually be able to play good FPS's which going by COD MW sales on consoles is a shit tonne of people!
  • Retroid #46 3 years ago

Because it would be intensely difficult to doa quick test

If PSP 2nd analogue? = false
    then
    Map controls differently.

And: Jesus, I thought the nub on the original was badly positioned...! O_o
  • immateriaux #47 3 years ago

Think that looks good. Some type of touch interface would make it even better but I'd definitely consider upgrading my PSP for one of those. Looks far more mobile and less weight is a big plus for me also.
  • owl #48 3 years ago

isn't it in roughly the same position as the left stick on a dualshock?

i quite like the size, it might actually make the psp portable.

to be honest, it's actually really starting to grow on me . . .
  • Boblido #49 3 years ago

Looks great, just have to see how it feels in my hands!
  • Mchief22 #50 3 years ago

I don't care what any of you say, this is just so good looking, stop complaining about the second nub it's still a psp not a psp 2.
and too everyone who said it's gonna cramp up there hands they are talking rubbish, if you look at the back of the console it has 2 little rubber strips, which obviously have 2 uses, for protecting it when you set it down and so you can get a good grip while playing your games.
Now i will take my psp go everywhere with me its so much more light compared to the 3000. as for the analog nub its in a perfect position unless you have hands like a hobbit lol don't forget this console is only slightly bigger than an i-phone, plus 16 gig internal memory, and you can connect your official bluetooth ps3 headset to your GO, Skype will be so much easier.
don't worry about the slightly smaller screen its the same reseloution so that means crisper images.
the other thing ive noticed is the circles that suround the D pad and face buttons, if you look they are lower down than the surrounding areas so that will also help your fingers keep a grip.
And to end for people who won't stop complaining DONT buy the new PSP GO its your lose.me personally i can't wait, i only hope one of the new improvements is the music player, other than that i couldn't be happier. CANT WAIT!!!
  • bad09 #51 3 years ago

Is that for real? It's butt ugly, and...that....analogue position...

Easier on the pocket size I guess but still bloody ugly!

  • oerhoert #52 3 years ago

Reported to photoshop disasters for the sheer otherwordlyness of those hand proportions.

Perhaps this is just a red herring?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought when I saw this one: [link url=http://images.eurogamer.net/assets/articles//a/5/8/7/6/9/8/PSP_GO_005.bmp.jpg
    ]http://images.eurogamer.net/assets/artic...[/link]

My first reaction was "dear god, that's horrible" followed by, "what's going on with that hand" followed by, "it looks ok in that pic".

    Meh overall.
  • Schiraman #54 3 years ago

Pretty, but it looks damn awkward to use - and the existing PSP is bad enough for that already.

Personally I'd rather have a proper PSP2 with some decent ergonomics and second analogue stick - but I'd settle for just having some decent games support for the PSP...
  • carrotcake #55 3 years ago

wow, lots of negativity here compared to other places i've looked at. I think it's quite a cool design. not amazing or surprising but im glad theyve sacrifice the screen size a bit to make this thing more pocket friendly. looks a bit pda or smartphone-ish, not going to make you stand out on public transport.

mandela, the game line up is improving a lot actually. I havent been interested in psp for years, but now theyve announced tekken6, soul calibur, little big planet, motorstorm, a new metal gear, gran turismo still coming, and more. so yeah psp is looking pretty cool and relevant again suddenly. I'd love to carry one of these little things around with me. portable tekken6 and gran turismo, woo!
  • chessboxer #56 3 years ago

Out of curiosity, does anyone on here who finds the PSP uncomfortable also find the old Gameboy/Advance/Advance SP uncomfortable or are they just moaning at another PlayStation product because it's cool to do so?
  • sonsonate #57 3 years ago

    God,

How old are some of you? The original PS did not have even have analog sticks or vibration until later -- when the N64 came out, I think. Older games were not broken by the inclusion of analog and vibration.

This thing is god-awful-ugly and is probably going to be awkward in larger hands -- like mine.
  • Turambar #58 3 years ago

"How old are some of you? The original PS did not have even have analog sticks or vibration until later -- when the N64 came out, I think. Older games were not broken by the inclusion of analog and vibration."

Nobody is suggesting this. They are suggesting that if they include a second analogue stick then games design to use that second analogue stick won't work on the 50 million existing PSPs (unless you had seperate control schemes for different hardware revisions). Further to that, when the analogue controller came out for the PS1 then people could just buy a new controller and not a whole new console - how many seperate PSP controllers have you seen on the market?
  • o_ci2007 #59 3 years ago

I think who ever leaked that video is lying dead at the bottom of an river somewhere in Japan. The person probably got a thorough beating before being errr shot in the head.

I love my Psp 3000 as its a technical powerhouse compared to the awful DS. Besides the iphone its arguably the best handheld gaming/multimedia device around. I actually watch movies/videos and listen to music more than games, I buy umd movies from hmv, ebay and play for no more than 5 pound each and so the only way I would even consider psp go is if the digital support is as "broad" and cheap as umd. I am not fussed about the second analogue stick anymore as most of the games suck anyway. Unless this has really good digital support through playstation store then its pointless.
  • cablemirc #60 3 years ago

    you're all gullible. it's a horribly photoshopped mylo 2. http://www.gizmos.es/wp-content/uploads/...

    lol, edit number two.
if it IS real, which i doubt, it shows a disgusting design trend at sony. i've held the mylo2, and i know how it feels, and comparing the two photos, i can tell you this would be a HORRIBLE body implementation for the PSP go, the slide for mylo2 is HORRIBLE.

the photos look fake, i cant imagine sony leaving that much "bare" space around the controls.. the buttons x traingle o and square look like you'd actually have difficulty pushing them, one photo shows the bottom headphone jack at an angle then the device is held straight up and down, and the word PSP on the screen seems a real non-starter.

the design of the PSP is fine as it is, and for those who think the 1-2-3000's are too big to be "portable", well that's just dumb. having that big of a screen on a portable device makes taking it anywhere worth it!

even IF there is a PSP-go to be released, i think sony would be shooting itself in the foot so soon after the PSP 3000 series...

but hey, as a former tech support guy at sony who's seen all kinds of goodies....
    what would i know?

    edited for spelling and clarity

  • Cuke #61 3 years ago

Ok, so no second analogue stick in the interests of backwards compatability... But with no UMD drive and Sony not exactly known for their compassion what are the chances all your UMD games will sit there gathering dust while Sony ask you to pay to download new copies?

My point is surely they could have put a second stick on for 'new' PSP Go games, they're unlikely to be coming out on UMD for the old PSP and original PSP games will be blatently marked as such in the dowload store so no one will be expecting full use of the new hardware from them....

Anyway, to be honest I think Sony's major problem is the location of the one analogue stick they do have on there... It'll be a bugger to use properly being sat in the middle like that on a device without the old two pronged hand grips of a PS gamepad...
  • CaoSlayer #62 3 years ago

I can feel the cry of MH players who no longer will be able to use the pad and the stick at once.
  • jonsaan #63 3 years ago

Looks alright. I already have a ton of downloaded games I could use on it BUT........why is the screen smaller?!

The PSP's greatest asset is the stunning screen.
  • 570n3d #64 3 years ago

    Looks really horrible.
  • bad09 #65 3 years ago

Hey jonsaan, I said this in the other thread. It's not that much smaller 4:3" now, 3.8" 'ain't too bad.

I'm with you though I like my big screen for my movies! I use my PSP with a speaker stand as a little portable to take round the house. Was watching Tropic Thunder chilling in the bath the other night!

  • Kayj #68 3 years ago

Hey Widge, I'll see if I can get through to any of them.

IT'S A PSP REVISION, NOT A PSP 2, THAT'S WHY THERE'S NO SECOND ANALOG STICK. A second analog stick would OBVIOUSLY have tons of implications for game developers in terms of should they/shouldn't they support it. I'm sure that STILL won't be enough for many of you, despite the clarity.

---RANT DELETED, seriously, it was huge. In summary, it was about the instant hatred of anything Sony do and how much shit is talked on internet forums by mis-informed know-it-alls from behind the safety of their computer screens.---

Gonna try to see if I can stay off forums, they just make me despair. Goodbye everyone, enjoy all the bullshit nonsense you fling at each other all the time.

  • bionutz #70 3 years ago

buttons not ok. did they really test this on real users?
  • varsas #71 3 years ago

Why would anyone want a second analogue stick? The analogue nub is horrible! Additionally as someone else mentioned it would be crap for game compatibility.

As for ergonomics, this looks to be more comfortable than the GBA SP with controls further apart and that fit quite well in the hand.
  • Antheor #72 3 years ago

Nooooo : SONY keeps the CLUMSY pad !!!!! Unbelievable ....
Oh yes it's so geeky but what about players ? I mean people who want to play a fight game and doing a down-downright-right move correctly ...
    I'm soooo disappointed.
PS : I was not wishing for a analog pad, just the same one with a better design (no space between directions, as traditional pad -ok -just copy the DS one !!!)

... or a £25 controller that rumbles and has 2 analogue sticks... just like the original PlayStation. To be fair the DSi has new functions that allow developers to do stuff they can't on the DS or Lite. I've also seen some clever mods that add a second stick to the PSP, which can in most fps' be remapped successfully.
  • sonsonate #84 3 years ago

    @Turambar

So, no one bothered to buy a PS2 or a PS3..? In any case, if Sony dropped compatibility and forced people to upgrade, it wouldn't be such a bad thing, but allowing folks with the older PSP to play would not be impossible just a remap and alternate control scheme to allow older PSP models to play without the second stick.

  • septimus #85 3 years ago

It might be quite comfortable, you never know until you actually use one. Not going to get one anyway, was hoping for a PSP2 style release, something along the lines of 4x more powerful, better res, better touch/screen etc.

Ah well, sticking with the iPhone for portable gaming it is.

Ok er um........no idea what to say about this one. The analogue nub is in a stupidly awkward place. The bigger screen is a nice touch as is the shorter form factor(when closed) but, digital only is a no for me. I like to sell on my old or crap games to buy new ones and that isn't possible with this.

Still I'll have a go if my mate ever get's one and brings it round.

I went out and bought a PSP3000 (replacing my old 1000) and a 16gb Pro-Duo stick when I heard about this.

I've nothing against the design, it looks fine and somewhat Archos-ish. I assume they are leaning more towards its role as a portable media device, therefore 'pocketability' (eww, I just used a dirty buzzword) and neat stylings when 'closed' for video playback were equally as important as when its being used as a games machine.

But lack of a UMD drive was not for me.

I think some people may be missing the rather obvious point that you don't have to buy it.
All the upcoming games and services will also be available to existing PSP owners, and the Go! version adds very few extras, so if you like the old-style PSP, then just bloody well stick with it!
  • zedzee #90 3 years ago

It's interesting how NO ONE was anticipating a screen size reduction but it's one of the obviously glaring wrong decisions made by Sony with the PSP Go revamp.

I'm not convinced about the analogue stick's position - looks a bit thumb-stretchingly hard to reach! And what happened to the second stcik? Have Sony not been reading their own blogs?!

And I take it that there's NO WAY in hell for me to transfer my UMD games to the integrated RAM, because Sony will not bother with writing a conversion or emulation app, right?!

    - Right.

    - WRONG!!!
  • tonynibbles #91 3 years ago

It's all a bit meh really.
  • DryHeat #92 3 years ago

Replace the start select with a second analogue stick and move the start select into the middle above the analogue sticks.
    Add touch screen.

In place of the umd slot use space for mini usb internal upgrade, so gps/extra memory can be added inside rather than outside of the psp.

The screen can come in two versions one is OLED and the cheaper uses a cheaper screen.
  • remag #93 3 years ago

For all of you who are worried about an extra analog stick and touch screen i think that Sony is trying to focus more on making a PSP that you can save games and your PS3 stuff to so that you can take them on the GO. Hence the name PSP GO. Although the extra analog stick and touch screen would add more hype to the system you should be happy enough that Sony even came out with the original PSP that you can play games, movies, music, and have WiFi Internet. I think that Sony has been producing good products and i think they know what they're doing so let them do their job.

  • Gagilence #95 3 years ago

"How hard is it to put 2 analog sticks on it!"
It's not hard, but Sony was clear, they wont divide the userbase. Period.
Adding 2nd nub would make 50 million sold PSPs incompatible with upcoming games, and Sony didn't want to piss off current PSP owners.
This was said at least one million times before, there wont be second stick until PSP2. You're dissapointed? Who cares. Turn your head away, go buy Iphone, DSi, whatever, just stop whining.

Anyway, white model looks nice, and will probably replace my old 1000, altough not before price cut. 250 euros is too much.

I'm talking about this. It looks far better then on leaked pictures.

    @remag Couldn't agree more.
