What they're talking about here is vastly different from the average Japanese Eroge. Those are rarely more technically ambitious than Myst. There are a handful of 3D ones which show some promise, but I doubt many people would actually pay for that sort of thing - most people just pirate them.

I thought the best thing about H-Games typically were the hilarious titles.

Swingers parties are depressing, I would imagine.

EDIT:
On topic though, this would just give games an even worse reputation. Unless a select few feminists decide that it's empowering to women and don't let the other feminists speak!

It seems to me that most of the articles about sex and games these days are written by women. This article was written by Ellie, mostly featuring the opinions of a female designer, and over at Kotaku Maggie Greene always seems to be banging (sorry) on about it, and linking to Leigh Alexander articles like In "In Defence of Breast Physics".

It was a woman who came up with that DS Bunny-wanking experiment, too.

Perhaps the fairer sex are just more interested in sex than violence for their 'mature' rated interactive entertainment.

I dont doubt they`ll come to the west but it will be a shame. I can only see them setting back any attempt to handle sex in games in a mature manner.

Xiphos: Right. Anyone with half a brain will understand that... well, if we're talking about half a paper maché brain made from a dictionary soaked in liquid LSD, of course.

Anyway - sex is good. Sex is lots better than violence, I know, Iæve tried both. Not shooting anyone, but I did beat some folks up a bit and that was OK. But not better than sex. Shooting people in games are fun, but I've never had the luxury of playiung a game that's even a little bit sexy, but I bet that would be very nice. I'm not the least intrested in tacky games like Lola, tho.

It's a wide-spread myth that women are not interested in sex and erotica. There are loads of sex products and erotic media content aimed at women, but it is usually packaged a little more discretely than the stuff aimed at guys. Fewer pictures, more ready bits and stuff. More clever, sort of, more subtle. Pick up any girlie magazine, like Cosmopolitan or whatever, and you'll find more sex bits in there than in your average Maxim or FHM.

H-game (eroge) doesn't mean "hentai" game. F***ing english slang. Bah, it seems that this stupid use of Japanese words won't disappear any time soon... Whatever :/

Probably more do to with the editors. If you want to have an article about sex in games on your site/in your magazine you can't have it be written by a man because then it'll be labeled as sexist, immature and sleazy, even if it's sensible and informative.

I've been a long time advocate of more sex in games for ages, though this doesn't necessarily more Hentai games. Hentai games are either about some teenage boy trying to seduce the class hottie or about some thirty-year old following the class hottie home and raping her. Niether make particulaly good games and would be banned by the BBFC no question (and not because of Manhunt 2 because of their strong stance on rape and underage sex as seen in their policies).

As far as I'm concerned games should have as much sex as required by the plot of the game. Mass Effect pitched perfectly as the sex scene wasn't at all jarring. Vampire the masqurade however is full of swearing, violence, strong flirting etc. but you go to a strip club and all the women still have their bras on. I mean WTF? What is the point of including a strip club in the first place? The Witcher's just as bad. It's basically saying wow aren't we mature we have sex in games... but games are for kids so we won't show anything. The industry should be mature enough to handle itself.

PS I personally blame america as if GTA:SA's hot coffee mod (irc) wouldn't have caused a fuss if it was included in the game proper in uk/europe/canada/japan etc but the world imploded in the US (this a game where you can murder prostitutes to avoid paying ffs).
