Help choose platforms for TimeSplitters 4

Free Radical appears undecided.

Free Radical wants help deciding what platforms to make TimeSplitters 4 for.

The developer's website features a poll to find out who would like to see the game on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC or, brilliantly, "Make something different."

Little is known about TimeSplitters 4, other than claims it's going to be funny, frantic, and do things we've never seen before. And we've been to the Chinese State Circus.

Here's hoping the game fares better with the critics than Haze, which didn't do so well - although plenty of people still bought the thing.

We shall see.

Needs multiplayer, so PS3 and 360.

    There, done.
  • Madafunkola #2 3 years ago

Why not just ask people which console is best?
  • superjag86 #3 3 years ago

    agreed

    EDIT: with trav

Do they really need to ask the question?

  • Doctor_What #5 3 years ago

Just to keep everyone happy, Mega Drive and SNES. Convert it to the Dreamcast within a year too.
  • Triggerhappytel #6 3 years ago

Just not the Wii. Anything else, just not the Wii.

    PS360 will do fine.

EDIT - oh God, the Wii is winning the poll. Has anyone else voted on their site yet? Go, now!!

they ain't gonna ask which console is best cos all current gen console have their pros and cons which cancel each other out
  • Xerx3s #8 3 years ago

Wow, some massive wii voting there. Wtf would be the point of TS on the wii? Surely it would be much better at home on the ps3 or 360 (as the voters above said) as those networks are far better?
  • DFawkes #9 3 years ago

I didn't expect Wii to come out top at any stage, but I hope it happens.
  • Eraser #10 3 years ago

While two weeks ago, I would've screamed for the Wii, I actually bought an XBox 360 so now I'm hoping for that.
However, since I'm pretty damn sure the game will be released for XB360 anyway, I'll vote for the Wii, because I still think the game should be available for people who only own a Wii and the Wii, as a platform, could use a game like it.

I'm sure they could develop a high detail version for the PS3/XBox360 and a low detail version for the Wii, like Force Unleashed.
  • JonFE #11 3 years ago

Well, that's interesting... Current poll results have the PS3 at 30%, the x360 at 22%, the Wii at a whooping 43%, the PC at 4% and the "make something different" at 2%.

Apparently people don't want Free Radical to give up on TimeSplitters, PS3 user still carry some love for them (despite Haze), the x360 crowd don't care a lot (or haven't heard of the poll :) and Wii fans starve for quality games...
  • wewillselfdestruct #12 3 years ago

There hasn't been a decent shooter released on the N64 in years. And these guys are ideally suited to the platform, no? Then they could use some of the same textures they used in Haze and blame it on system limitations. Glad I could help.
  • Colin8703 #13 3 years ago

If you're asking a question like that this long into this generation then you might want reconsider if it will be ready on time for this generation. Especially as considering the quality of Haze, they need to put some serious overtime in if this is going to be as good as the other Time Splitters games.

  • DFawkes #14 3 years ago

Just port 2 to Wii and do 4 on PS3/360. Make the Wii port as lazy as you like, make it playable with the classical control only if you don't want to change the controls. I just want TS2 again! No, I'm not buying a tatty old preowned PS2 version.
  • CrunchinJelly #15 3 years ago

  • SixFootHalfling #16 3 years ago

Basically if this is Wii only I wont buy it, because the whole thing about timesplitters I've wanted since the PS2 games was to play it online, and if this is on Wii you probably wont be allowed to play against random people just in case that one in 30 million of the people you play is Gary Glitter. And the Wii doesn't have a mic, so no talking to your friends, unless you use the new 8 person chat on your 360 to do it. :)
  • menage #17 3 years ago

    The Wii can have it.

I'd like to add good olds Peter Moore's Rare comments of yesterday and apply them here. It's a better fit.
  • lambtron #18 3 years ago

"Then they could use some of the same textures they used in Haze and blame it on system limitations."

Lol. Make something different. I NEVER understood why people though TimeSplitters was good in the first place, seemed like an inferior version of Goldeneye or Perfect Dark without all the good bits.

Having said that though the last thing other than TimeSplitters they made was Haze so maybe they should just give up altogether ;).
  • andywilkie35 #19 3 years ago

What a stupid thing to do. Does this mean that since Haze has come out they have just sat there going "well that didn't go so well did it", sulked some more, and now they're thinking "fuck it, lets do timesplitters 4! but for what console..."

    they should do some work

Clearly this needs to be made for xbox360 and ps3 surely, as trav said, for multiplayer reasons
  • Tomnd #20 3 years ago

  • menage #21 3 years ago

agrees with lambtron, MP was funwith 4 players, but the SP was just a bunch of levels slammed together, badly.
  • BiscuitBase #22 3 years ago

The game will be shit regardless of the console.
  • estoo #23 3 years ago

Atari 2600.. been a while since I got a new game for that, getting a bit bored of Centipede
  • Oh-Bollox #24 3 years ago

Wii. Perfect controls for it. Original TS was the best multiplayer FPS experience on the PS2 for a long while, superseded by TS2 which had a decent story mode but the same MP action. TS:FP was a bit worse (thanks EA!) due to some dodgy vehicle bits, but it had online MP. Another one please, FRD.
  • SEVQA #25 3 years ago

I suggest they develop on the platforms that will make them money! or is that a stupid suggestion.

So thats Wii and DS shovle ware then!
  • IronCladChicken #26 3 years ago

Just before the launch of the Wii didnt Free Radical say that the Wii was a gimick and too underpowered to develop a game for - That they would concentrate on the PS3 & 360?

So.. why not develop the game for the PS3 or 360 then? (if theres only one platform it is going to be released on)
Or - why not release it onto the 360, if it turns out to actually be pretty good (& a seller) code a PS3 version?

  • Stuz359 #27 3 years ago

It would be nice to see an FPS built from the ground up on the Wii rather than a lazy port. Something which actually takes advantage of the Wii controls.
  • ParanoidZombie #28 3 years ago

I'd choose the Wii. TS4 wouldn't sell on PS3 and X360, there are too many FPS on both machines already.
  • chanderzz #29 3 years ago

    How is the wii winning?
  • Beek4257 #30 3 years ago

If it's anything like HAZE, stick it to Gizmondo to avoid further embarrassment.

Otherwise 360 and/or PS3. Doesn't really matter. I slightly prefer the 360 pad (the triggers to be precise) for shooters.
  • noresalenocopy #31 3 years ago

Why don't they make an iPhone or flash version, they're popular platforms?
  • kinky_mong #32 3 years ago

" I just want TS2 again! No, I'm not buying a tatty old preowned PS2 version."

Well why don't you buy a Gamecube copy because that will work on the Wii (and without having to use awful motion control which will be a bonus!).

Personally if they're still under EA's thumb my prefered platform for TS4 is the bin. Future Perfect ruined what was (IMO) the best console FPS of the last gen, and if Haze is anything to go by Free Radical have completely lost it.
  • DFawkes #33 3 years ago

    @kinky_mong

Because I'm an idiot that hadn't thought of that. Thanks for that, I'll probably grab it at the weekend :)

I's still like it to be on Wii, I like Red Steel.
  • ekko #34 3 years ago

I voted for "do something different"... seems I'm in the very small minority.
  • L42yB #35 3 years ago

@Tiste - :o Time spliters games are great fun. Multiplayer has always been excellent :)

    /wants PC release
  • Darren #36 3 years ago

After Haze on the PS3, which wasn't a bad game per se, just dreadfully uninspiring and bland, I couldn't care less which platforms TimeSplitters 4 appears on. I'm now a whole lot *less* excited about it...

Edit: Missed out the word *less*!!!

  • illusiondance #37 3 years ago

sorry Tel, its got to be on Wii as Free Radicals gamecube work was so damn good. (i still occasionally go back to try and collect every medal in TS3).
surely there are enough shooters on the fat machines?
  • peterfll #38 3 years ago

Just because there's been such a dire lack of quality on the Wii shouldn't be a reason for Free Radical to shy away from grasping the nettle and take up the challenge to do a really really good Wii FPS.
  • Santino #39 3 years ago

i'd like to see it on wii or pc, screw gimped dual analogue fps, seriously.
  • espibara #40 3 years ago

If its anything like Haze no fucker will buy it anyway.
  • WillTheSecond #41 3 years ago

Why do people care about it being on PS3 and 360? The Timesplitters games have never had great graphics, and Wii has voice-chat now, with WiiSpeak, and the controls will be 100% better on Wii than on PS360 anyway. I think TS4 could be very good on Wii. I would also settle for a PC version, though a PC version would of course lack split screen, which is the most fun element of Timesplitters anyway (combined with user-created maps, of course).
  • knightmt #42 3 years ago

They do not care, just attention grabbing.
I am sure they will bring it out on the top 3.
Good games, very accessible and great for split screen.
  • MilkYMoO #43 3 years ago

For making a lot of money, obviously the 360. For me, I dont care. Wii, 360, ps3 it does'nt matter for me. Although the wii deserves a top fps, ah hell!, a wii version please.
  • Redeye #44 3 years ago

Personally, I suggest the Vectrex, Colecovision and MSX.

(It's a bit of a daft question, TBH, and only good for firing up yet another console bashfest...lead platform development and subsequent portwork, or simultaneous hardware-specific development, now that's a completely different kettle of badgers.)
  • hahayou #45 3 years ago

    DS!

But the Wii still doesn't have a definitive FPS, they'd be smartest to focus on that as the main platform, then bring out 360/PS3(/PSP/PS2?) if it does well.
  • themanfromdelmonte #46 3 years ago

I voted Wii. People complain about lack of hardcore games on Wii & when given an opportunity to change that, vote against it.

On PS3/360 it'll be joining an already healthy roster of FPS and will be dismissed by some because of it's art style.

On Wii it'll be a chance for Free Radical to refine Wiimote FPS controls. Online play would still be good, I don't really have any problems with Mazza Kart (except last lap monster power up robberies).

I personally think it's already in development for Wii and they're doing this poll to try and back up their reasons for developing it on that format.
  • BartonFink #47 3 years ago

and the controls will be 100% better on Wii than on PS360 anyway.

    Comedy gold
  • mkreku #48 3 years ago

Since they mainly do FPS's, put it on the PC! Mouse + keyboard!
  • captainrentboy #49 3 years ago

After playing Haze I honestly couldn't give a shit if TS4 was released on the 360. I mean it's not like the console is lacking shooting titles or anything.
But let's face it, baring in mind Haze didn't exactly set the world alight with its sales figures, and the 360 has a pretty good game:console attach rate going on, I can't see them not doing a version for it.
  • Mordaan #50 3 years ago

    hey all idiots

you can play TS2 on the wii already with gamecube controllers. It rocks!!! I bought 4 GC controllers just for this game.

EDIT: Why PS3 and XBOX? These consoles will die. Bad quality. I want a console that lasts 10 years. Durable development! My megadrive is 15 years old and works fine! PS2 is SHIT.

  • RazorObsession #51 3 years ago

PS3. it can hang around with Haze and all the other shit games and be bummers.
  • andywilkie35 #52 3 years ago

    lol @ RazorObsession!!
  • BonzoBanana #53 3 years ago

I really loved Timesplitters 2. It was a quirky, addictive and enjoyable shooter with an atmosphere all its own. I don't think it was a technical showcase at the time. I think Free Radical need to freshen up their game design team. Haze was uninspired to say the least and I think a comedy FPS game would be great. Do it for 360 and PS3 but make them slightly different so as to appeal twice to multi console owners. Don't bother with the PC, Battlefield Heroes will probably limit your appeal there. I think people are getting tired of serious FPS games. A real nut job of a FPS game would surely do well. Battlefield Heroes would be a good place to start to get inspiration. Also people don't like games that make their console look crap like Haze. If you do a game make sure its competitive with other similar games if not better. No point releasing a PS3 game that looks close to PS2 standards.
