Hell's Highway demo on Xbox Live News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

13 October, 2008

Ubisoft has popped a demo of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The sampler parachutes in at 1.32GB, and offers up an early portion of the tactical World War II shooter to get to grips with.

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is already out to buy, of course, but with a score of 7/10 is exactly the type of game - we like to think - that demos are useful for.

Or you could read our Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway review.

Crap game.

AI doesn't ever give a challenge. They don't push forward or flank. Levels are even more linear than the first two games. I barely had to think in this game and completed it, on authentic. Gun sounds are fricking sweet though. But that's not enough.

R.I.P BiA. Loved the first two but this one is crap.

@ Godz_Mercenary: Did you enter a code to open authentic or did you play through twice?

I never played the first two, but as I managed to get this for £9.99 I thought it worth the punt. FWIW I am quite enjoying it (though the AI is somewhat erratic) and feel the visual design and sound effects really place you in a battle.

The lack of handholding in authentic looks interesting and still to play any MP so I don't have a fully rounded opinion yet but I'm enjoying it more than GeOW....

they should really patch the pc version first. they somehow missed the huge 'black friday' glitch during testing. No one with an ati card can play the game from that point on! its a shame really. shooting a nazi in that game is so satisfying!

I used a save file someone posted on GameSpot forums. I wanted to play authentic straight away as I hoped it would be a challenge. But it wasn't.

It looked like a badly updated Xbox game on the PS3 when I played the demo, I've grabbed the 360 version too to compare.

Got the full game for cheap the other day, wasn't expecting much and haven't played the previous games, but am enjoying it. The AI isn't the greatest but it's involving and absorbing - graphics are top notch and sounds are great on my 5.1 setup.

I played the PS3 demo a week (or two?) back and thought it was OK. I tried the 360 demo last night and was surprised to see that it was not only graphically identical to the PS3 version but was also plagued with yucky screen tearing. I never saw any tearing in the PS3 demo at all. So why is the 360 version worse... I'd have expected it to be the other way round, especially since the game uses Unreal Engine 3? :?

Not that I'm that bothered as I wasn't impressed particularly by the game itself, it's far too similar to the original game in terms of feel and mechanics, the A.I. is mediocre-to-terrible (especially your two teammates who love running out into the open and getting killed!) and the bright colourful visuals make the demo look oddly cartoon like and removes atmosphere from the game. It's certainly not the same game I was expecting after seeing that impressive looking dev demo from two years ago... it looks like it's been stripped back and dumbed down since then. Shame.
