The demon in the last screenshot is quite detailed... but essentially, we've done this before in Doom 3... for most of us now, twice with the expansion as well...

Not an update of the Minter classic then?

Well, they've managed to link the London Underground with Hell, they got that bit right.

Well look, if it's a choice between running around the Underground blasting zombies, and running around the Underground blasting zombies, then I'll take running around the Underground blasting zombies thanks.

I managed to have a look at E3 - played a bit even - looks better then the screens.
Yet if they will take 4 more yars to make it in the good old Blizzard tradition it will look ... outdated.
For now it looks amazing imho. It's not a technicall wonder but it has that polish and image roundness that is pulling you in.
And why no 3rd person screens?

I always thought that Quatermass and the pit movie would make a nice game...

...looks like I might have been wrong.

It's Diablo in a first person shooter. Randomly created maps and all. Co-op play sprinkled on top. Honestly, it tickles my fancy.

It's by the new company set up by some of the Blizzard big-wigs isnt it? plus its like a randomly generated diablo MMO - sounds great on paper, just hope the visuals are not all so dark and depressing.

@Hyoushi, @pion17, @kami: before starting with the "it's the same thing again" rants, it's better if you invest some time in finding what a game is about instead of judging it from some screenshots. HG:L is not a FPS, but a first and third person action RPG, with random level built in realt time just like the Diablo levels were, allowing the use of hundreds of different weapons (ranged and hand to hand), with a lot of different effects and special characteristics (just like magic items in any RPG), targeted at the RPG audience and so focusing less on aiming weapons and more on their effect when calculating the damages they inflict. Think Diablo II in 3D. Actually it is one of the most original products to surface in these last years, I still have some doubts it will work in the end, but then Bill Roper is behind this, and so probably it will be excellent.

Before starting with "I'm a retard" rant check the date on those comments. The first screens for this game were actually released before anyone knew what the game was. It's that simple. I want to reach back into april and punch you in the throat. Don't be such a fucking retard.

@Adamwest: before wanting to punch a guy in the throat, please YOU check the date on the posts involved, and the date when the info for hellgate london were released. When the comments were written, the game was already been extensively covered both here and on other game sites... the game structure and idea was very well known before ANY screenshot was released, as the only images released for a while were only concept art.

Anyway, I had written a post that wasn't offensive, nor has any trace of personal insult or offensive language. You, while blatantly wrong, managed to be offensive and to put the matter into the world of personal harrassment. I guess we all need more people like you to make this site better.

Thing is, originally this game just seemed rather... well... DOOM-ish in look. I wasn't knocking it's concept, or originality, just the fact that at the time it seemed everyone and their own bloody granny was trying to do something demonic and dark, and I put it down squarly to the success of Doom. Hey, if the market is baying for demon blood, gotta give it to 'em, right?

So I'd rather appreciate it if you didn't take peoples comments so to heart. Time passes, the game progresses through development, things start clicking into place. An opinion from 12 and 18 months ago can be a totally different opinion from now, screenshots get released and the whole thing starts to differentiate from its original look.

Bottom line here is, if you really, truly wanted to snap back at people like that, you should have done it at the time, when the few screenshots we had were very FPS and looked a little too shiny for their own good...

@Kami: I apologize if you thought I was offensive. I didn't "snap back". Actually, I just added to this comment section what I think were relevant information to a tread that had mostly misgiving informations. I have reread what I had read, and I don't see the post as offensive or as something meant to "take names", but I'm really sorry if you feel or felt differently.

Okay, just seemed that it was a meaningless slap across the face. Just remember in future that what you see a year later from screenshots is not necessarily what we saw when we made our comments based on a few limited screens.

I'm sure I remember some Photoshop mock-ups from a while back that looked half-decent. Maybe it was a different game...

Me. I have a reasonable high tolerance level for cheesy looks if the gameplay promises to be fun.

Most of us have, whether we're fans of Western games or Japanese games, or all we'd ever play was Ico. :p
