Hellgate: London dated

November in Europe.

EA has announced that Hellgate: London will be released across Europe on 2nd November.

It's the PC role-playing game from Bill Roper and Flagship studios, which aims to blend the statistical nature of the genre with the fast paced action of first-person shooters.

You play as one of a handful of classes and have to rid our glorious capital city of hordes of undead, using nifty swordplay, guns, or spells.

It will also be among the first wave of games to offer an optional MMOG-style multiplayer mode. A free and limited online option will be included with the single-player game, but if you want to take it a step further you'll have to pay a monthly subscription of USD 9.95.

If you do, you'll have access to things like guilds, raids, new items - all types of fantasy guff you'd expect to find in an MMORPG.

"We wanted to hit the sweet-spot for release in terms of the development schedule and delivering the highest-quality game to our players," said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. "Halloween was the perfect fit as it ensures that Hellgate: London will have an appropriate amount of beta testing, while also being an incredibly fun time to unleash the game."

There's no word on a public beta test at the moment, but we'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile you can pop over to our Hellgate: London gamepage for all of our coverage to date.

Moving through London is Hell as it is, why would i want to pay for it?

They may not be chavs but at least you get to shoot the scum roaming the streets of London

Strange as it may sound, the online part has turned me off Hellgate: London. I don't have time in this, my last year of university, to pick up another MMORPG but I was really looking forward to a solid spiritual successor to Diablo 2. The knowledge that by playing offline I won't be getting the full experience will probably make me avoid the game altogether (monthly fees don't bother me if I'm enjoying the game).

Looking at the screenshots, I'd say the headline is pretty accurate.

This game is so much going to crash and burn, the graphics looks dated, gameplay jerky and confusing. The online part is just silly, it doesn't know who it is addressing.

Bring on Bioshock, 95% in PC Gamer UK!

    Looks fine to me.

People are forgetting that this isn't a linear 8 hours game, but an action-RPG with random levels, and hundreds of items and monsters. Of course it won't look as detailed as Gears of War.

Don't really care about the multiplayer, I prefer the single-player for this type of game anyway.

Offline is the same as online. Except online you can play with real people. That's the same experience you get with all offline games.

Unless you host a LAN party ;)

Surprised. Thought this was gonna slip till next year. Novembers starting to get a bit packed.

I'm going to get this for sure. After reading some details on the gameplay I'm more thrilled than ever. Looks like they have made a crossover between Diablo and City of Heroes gameplay, and this can't be bad.

Diablo III obviously would have been better though... :D

I'm surprised it's done so soon. I'm very curious how it turns out.

Well, considering it was announced in early 2005 and is already delayed, I am not sure it's really "soon". It ain't no Stalker though, I'll give you that. ;-)

ZuluHero, there's more content for subscribers so those who only want to play offline will be missing out on stuff.

Are you sure you aren't confusing the free multiplayer mode with the singleplayer mode? Of course, single player won't have guilds and raids etc. you only get in multiplayer if you pay, but apart from that I am not aware of any limitations of the singleplayer mode.

I always thought Halloween was October 31st. When did they move it?
