Hellgate demo this week

Either today or tomorrow.

Update: EA has waded in and said it will be exclusively available on Game Daily from 17:00 BST today, and available everywhere else 24 hours later.

Flagship Studios has said that a demo for Hellgate: London will be available this week.

According to its website it should be with us today, although everywhere else in the world seems to think general public will be able to download it tomorrow. EA was unavailable to clear it up.

It will be a single-player sampler that lets you test out two of the six character classes from the game: the Blademaster, a melee specialist who likes to get up close and personal, or a Marksman that prefers to keep his enemies at about sniper-distance.

Open to you is a snippet of the storyline to work through, and a couple of side quests to wander off on as you explore the streets and tunnels around Holborn Station - which opened in 1906 before being modernised in 1933. I like trains.

Hopefully it will all come together to give you a good idea of what to expect when the full action role-playing game appears here on 2nd November.

Keep an eye on that official website for places to download the demo from, or pop into our Hellgate: London gamepage for a better idea of what to expect.

This better be more fun than it looks from the videos on EGTV.

Hell, if this is half as addictive as DII, I'll probably still buy it.

I can't wait to give this a go

I'll be intrigued to see how this turns out - I was initially interested in it, but some really poor footage put me off a handful of months ago. Despite Flagship saying they're not releasing it until it's ready, I still think it could go either way.

A free sampler of the "spiritual successor" of Diablo 2? And of the single player bit, no less (the only bit I'm interested in)? I'm there.

The word is that Mythos, the game created as a testbed for Hellgate, has turned out to be better than Hellgate. It's still in beta but the positive feedback means it's getting more development.

Your German sister site has reported it'll be out today, exclusive on Game Daily for 24 hours, and everywhere else on Friday. I didn't spot any hint of it at all on GD though, hm.

I've never thought about this game before. But now that I do, it sounds like the best game ever.

hmm its weird - but i'm finding it kinda compulsive.. Its certainly different from different types of MMOs that ive played. The single player is a good taster - but you can clearly see that its meant for online play.. I reckon this game will come into its own in multiplayer... Im gonna play it some more to see if it grows on me :)

Downloading 1.4 GB over http... that's madness. I just know my WLAN will hiccup halfway through and all will be lost. Does anyone know a site that offers this as a bittorrent download?

I used Firefox with Downthemall! installed - I believe it results in less corrupt http downloads. Maybe I just got lucky though.

Any others given it a go yet? I'm at work and wondering whether it's worth d/l when I get home =)

D'loaded it last night and really enjoyed it. Strange though as i run Vista and an 8800GTX it still wouldn't let the whizzy DX10 effects. Anyway its very good but with the Witcher out a week today i don't think i will have enough time to play everything...

So am I the onlyone who found this a bit bland and not very interesting... but in fairness this is only a single player demo and not really acurate of what the final game will be. But so far... meh.

"3. Consent to Use of Data. Cool EULA. I think I'll pass this one.

As a big Diablo fan I'm disappointed to say the least. Where's the atmosphere? How could the Diablo team (or at least lots of them) chuck out something so souless?

I guess this shows that a talented team goes only some of the way to making a good game...

Ugh! I just downloaded this and installed it and it told me that I needed pixel and vortex shader 1.1 and my hardware supports 0.0.

This is one of the only games I've been looking forward to for a while and I can't even play it. Looks like it's finally time to get around to upgrading.
