We have stuffed the Blu-ray disc with data. It's full up, and we actually struggled to get it all in!

I don't know if they're lying or not. It's just a question of what they've filled it up with and will it make a difference at the end. You can shove 25GB of utter pap onto a Blu Ray disc, it'll still be pap though.

Let's hope that this one actually proves the Sony hype and we see the benefit of the extra storage, which let's face it, has been their major selling point throughout the last year or so.

The important thing is the Camera. We know it looks sweet, story and gameplay are certainly interesting but if they fuck the camera it doesn't matter what else they have.

From the E3 footage the camera looked like it shared similarities with Genji:DOB.....please god no.

They said they have worked on the camera since then but its still a worry for me.

Sixaxis camera control sounds dodgy as fuck.

At the minute though I can't wait for that demo.

I'm sure they could have quite easily filled a blue ray disc, quite possibly with lots of hi-def video etc. But then people said of DVD that it would just be used for lots of FMV. At first it was, but eventually pretty much every single ps2 game used the dvd format, and really did use the space for the game, not just video. Blueray will be the same I'd imagine.

Looks and sounds like a lot of fun. If the combat is good, it will be a must buy for me. I love 3rd person action games.

@agparrott - It's a different character, all 3 pics are.

I don't know if this is a stupid fanboy rumour (which it more than likely is) but I heard they were putting unnecessary data on Blu-Ray games to increase the read speed. I can't remember exactly how it was supposed to work, something about pushing data to the edges of the disc or summat. Sounds like BS to me....

I think developers that don't use all the space replicate the data on the disc twice so load times are quicker.

Yes and no. The idea is that you replicate data to decrease load times. So when you load a level you may replicate certain textures so you don't need to seek. This is a technique used in almost every game to some extent. Seek times make up the majority of load times.

At the end of the day, if you are developing on PS3 and have 50 gig at your disposal, why not use it? Like the guy says: "It's the law of game development that you can never have too much."

Pushing data to the edges means you read faster, but seems unrelated to data replication.

Tameem Antoniades: If you really want a small list of influences and inspirations, how about this: the poetic beauty of ICO, the dynamic action of Panzer Dragoon Orta, the extreme style of Devil May Cry, the depth of combat of Virtua Fighter, the visual emotion of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, the "wire-fu" style of Yuen Woo Ping, the over-the-top action of Kung Fu Hustle, the madness of Versus and the scale of Lord of the Rings.THIS GUY KNOWS HIS SHIT!I MUST BUY A PS-3!

It's not, and it's been done in DVDs for years. Even in CDs back in the day.

Could be a lot of fun, but the graphics are nowt special are they? That's just one mighty samey looking texture over that mountainside in the last pic isn't it?
Still like I've said in the H3 threads, graphics aren't everything.
And yeah this game was on Heroes wasn't it? My GF looked at me like I was right dorky twat when I pointed out the factual errors of the kid playing this particular game so early, Linderman isn't that almighty, jeeeez......

Razzajazz: Why you replicate data.

It is to avoid having to 'seek' on the disc for the data. A seek can take up to 200 milliseconds to perform. If you seek for every file you have that 200 millisecond lag before you can start reading the file.

If you store data in a linear fashion you seek once to the beginning of the level data and then start loading everything sequentially.

To be able to load things sequentially in a game where data is shared between levels you will want to replicate the files that are shared. To avoid the seek time.

It's a common technique used by console developers to speed up loading and it was something most developers had to learn when developing for the first disc based console systems.

You need to do this when streaming content constantly but with stringent TRCs telling developers that a game cannot be inactive at a loading screen for more than 20 seconds you have to do this even if you are not doing a game that is streaming content.

Not quite true. If you have say a football/basketball/hockey game, you cannot replicate data of players, because you can't anticipate which players a user might have on a personalised team. There are other ways of updating a loading screen, so content replication is helpful, but not a necessity.

Must admit the thing I found most interesting was that they packed the bluray full.

My gods that means its one giant-assed game.

...Or they slapped in 500 hours of shaky cam covering their developers starting at monitors
