Healey wants LBP to work with PlayTV

We're so making a Neighbours level.

Got PlayTV for your PlayStation 3? Planning to buy LittleBigPlanet? If Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healey gets his way, you could end up watching last night's Eastenders in-game and pasting stickers all over Ian Beale's smug face.

Having recently picked up PlayTV, the box that gives PlayStation 3 users access to Freeview channels and PVR functionality, Healey would love to take advantage of it with his studio's imminent sandbox game.

"Just recently I bought the PlayTV, because I had to swap cables every time," he said in an exclusive interview with Eurogamer TV. "That made me think last night, we should just integrate that into LittleBigPlanet. Why not? If you've got a PlayTV box, it must be possible to watch TV within your Pod.

"How cool is it to just watch TV with people online with your Sackboy, and vandalise the TV with stickers, for example? There's lots of random ideas like that I'd like us to explore. I don't know if that's possible but I'm sure it must be."

Sounds pretty damned cool to us. Make it so, Sony. LittleBigPlanet's out on 24th October. Check out our exclusive LittleBigPlanet Expert Walkthrough to see how the developers use audio tools in their levels, and look out for the next instalment later today.

I would say about 1/10 cool.

I am all for including extra stuff in games... but people watch TV to err... watch stuff, not to have other people jump around on their screen.

Daily dose of random LBP news

tomarrow: ' Healey wants LBP to feature Jaffa cakes'
"They are my favourite teatime snack, it would be great to have players throw jaffa cakes at each other online at some point in the future"

Still looking forward to the game though

I have to admit, PlayTV or not, LBP is the only game currently tempting me to get a PS3...

You'd never guess he used to work for Peter Molyneux!

Not quite sure why "game designer thinks of an idea that might be cool but won't actually be happening" qualifies as a whole news article, much as I am looking forward to LBP.

"AND, we would like it to have a mode where you can come out of the game world and into real life and you can go wherever you want to go and fly and get into space and if you want to paint something red it paints it red and there's a horse and there's a man with a car and a rocket and then you go to the beach"

Why not? its not a bad idea. I play my ps3 during ad-breaks, if anything, this would stop me guessing when to change back to TV. obviously only during LBP sessions. Not to mention multi-tasking....

Had some friends around last night to play LBP, one or two a bit sceptical about the game.... however, it blew everyone away and I don't think I have had as much fun gaming for a long time....

Seeing as I spent 11 hours straight on Saturday, building a level, without eating, I would say this would be pretty damn cool.

Even if it only acts as a wake up call as to what time it is.

Update PlayTV to include series link and genre search first. kthxbye

Lol @ Mark Healey. Wow, yeah that would be great. But it could be even cooler, if you could play any PS3 game from inside your LBP pod. And then you could place stickers all over them and make them look silly!

You know what - let's just keep LBP the way it is, and use Home for all the rest.

"Just recently I bought the PlayTV, because I had to swap cables every time,"

I can't help to think that maybe Mark needs a better TV if he can't have his PS3 and his set-top box connected at the same time...

I wouldn't put it on the top of the list of things to do - not that many people worldwide have access to PlayTV yet (and may never). It would just make everyone else annoyed at not being able to use a feature through no fault of their own. Also, when I'm playing LBP I'm really not that interested in looking at anything else! And it would only work if everyone you played with had PlayTV or are you going to stream out the signal to everyone you're playing with? Cause if you can do that, you might as well replace Home with LBP altogether. ;)

I'd rather you guys should work together with the Home team a little more instead, if possible, and make sure that Home is released at the very least as an open beta this year as was promised. ;)

Might be a copyright problem if other people online can see the TV you are watching! If it gets developed I guess it would be off line only! I like the idea very much and encouraging to hear a developer explorer all possible potentials to have fun.

I agree, he should update another company's product first!

    Stacey *The Slut* Slater. lol.

    Hollyoaks -/- Eastenders.

Anyway it could be a good concept but it wouldn't take off, LBP is getting over hyped.
