HD Remix sells a quarter million News

Xbox 360 PC PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

19 December, 2008

Capcom has announced that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has sold 250,000 copies.

That's pretty impressive considering the downloadable scrapper has only been out for just over three weeks, and only on Xbox Live Arcade - the PSN version hasn't turned up yet, and there's no further word from Capcom on when it might.

Capcom reckons that the brisk sales represent a record for digitally-distributed games. "HD Remix has shattered both day one and week one sales records and will most likely break 30 day sales records as well.  It's on its way to becoming the highest grossing digital title ever," said the Capcom post.

Congratulations, Capcom. Why don't you celebrate be re-reading our impressively technical review.

SCEE said the release delay is down to Capcom but neither side will comment officially on what's happening. I hope a bug free version is released on PSN EU after all this time.

Surely it's got a long way to go before beating games like Peggle or Bejeweled?

I see Capcom are using the"console-only" definition of games.

Or perhaps I am being unfair and they mean games whose distribution is exclusively digital. Anyone know?

edit: actually seeing the Peggle/Bejeweled comment above, I assume they (and EG apparently) have just neglected to mention PC games and cut them out of the equation.

@Fodder,

at 1200MS points, they may not be far off being the highest grossing digital download game in time. Personally, I am constantly deciding whether or not to buy it, and I keep thinking that I have bought so many Street Fighter games over the years, I don't know whether to spend the money on this one again.

1200 points is about 10 quid isn't it? Given that Peggle costs 15 quid, I'd still be surprised if it's beaten that.

@ Fodder.
At current exchange rates, 1200MS points is probably more in the region of £12. But who knows. Essentially, this is just again corporate hyping. Unfortunately, our hobby has been taken over by the money men, and a game seems a lot more desirable if it has broken some sort of industry record. It gets tiring, but there you have it.

This is becomming a joke to be honest. Am sick of looking at good reviews, great videos and comments from people saying it's so good. I want it on the PSN - NOW (childish rant I know)

I have a 360, but there is no way I am gonna play with those controllers.

Please release it soon, please.

Get a hori fighting stick to play this game anyway - fuck the PS3, I have one sat under my TV next to the xbox, and it's covered in dust. I got tired of inferior PS3 games some time ago, and not just use the PS3 to watch the odd bluray, totally disgruntled with it tbh. Wipeour HD, MGS4 and Drakes are the only games that were decent.

Anyway, no point in opening up this argument for the billionth time, but I feel your pain.

Has it become impossible to find a means of payment for new US PSN accounts? I can still use my EntroPay account (and I bought SFIIHDR when it was released), but I do seem to recall some people saying a few months back that Sony had blocked that option for new accounts?

To be perfectly honest, I don't have the money or the space to buy a proper fighting stick. Will see how I feel when SF4 comes along, but at the moment I can't make that sacrifice.

This game definitely deserved its 250k sales. It's excellent, it's an established franchise, and the online play is way better than previous fighting game efforts. Seems like many of the people I meet on Xbox Live are British, too - and the ping over here to America is not that bad.

As much as I want this game, I think I might pass on it, simply because I'm sick of being dicked on for living in the EU.
This announcement takes the piss somewhat, they could've waited until the EU release to drop this 'great' news.
Do they thing Europe is a third world continent or something?

Since Europe is the biggest market for Sony (except for Japan), M$ probably paid Capcom to alienate us. Meaning, think twice before buying a Capcom title in europe the support for it may be a little so so.

Only around 10 million more to go before they equal Bejeweled. They must really expect things to pick up once it goes on the EU PSN.

Whenever I read these comments about a title not on the Euro PSN, I want to go and bang my head against a wall.

When I really wanted Puzzle Fighter on PS3, I went to the trouble of setting up a Wirecard account (that did not work), then an Entropay account (that did work), give Entropay a try if you can be arsed, but if they have indeed blocked that, try this.

type http://www.ebay.com into your browser of choice, type 'PSN Card' into the search, find a seller who will email the code to you (most do) and click 'Buy It Now', then pay via PayPal. Wait a few hours (not normally that long) and you will see the code appear in your email. Set up a fake US PS3 account using an address you find on the net (try a hotel). Redeem the code on the PS3, buy SSF2HD and STOP FUCKING MOANING!

A piece of piss - back in the late 80's, early 90's we actually had to worry about rip off mail order companies running off with our £200 when we wanted an import Megadrive, or the like - what has happend to the resolve of gamers these days to put themselves out to get something early, and not sit around moaning in a forum about it???

I assume that's a joke or an attempt at irony?

Just on the off-chance that it's not, if Sony have taught us in Europe anything over the last three generations, it's that they care little for us. If you honestly believe that the reason the title isn't on PSN in Europe is because MS paid Capcom, then you're a fool and obviously very, very new to Sony and the Playstation brand.

>Most of us know how to buy from the U.S psn store but the point you’re missing is that we shouldn’t have to.

As far as I am concerned, the fact that we 'shouldn't' have to is irrelevent - anyone who has been serious about gaming for any length of time (i.e. those who visit this site) will be aware that all of the big game corporations have always treated Europe as second class, so it should come as no surprise at all.

I 'shouldn't' have had to import all those 16-Bit games and systems to play them on back in the day, because if I didn't, they might not get released, and even when they did they would be crippled with borders and speed issues in PAL terretorties. I 'shouldn't' have had to pay £400 for an N64 shortly after Japanese release because I wanted to play Mario64, and not wait years for Nintendo to get around to releasing it here at 50hz. I 'should't' have had to by NTSC Dreamcasts and PS2's to play games at full speed, at the turn of the Millenium, even when I had owned a TV that would have supported 60hz for years. You get the point.

We always get screwed in Europe, but what has 20 years of moaning and pleading got us from Nintendo/Sony/Sega/Microsoft (in order of poor support, IMO) - absolutely nothing, and when we FINALLY get region free home systems, we then get screwed over downloadable content or store release dates...

Just do what anyone who really wants whatever unreleased game has always done - figure out how to import it, at least these days you can do it from your chair at home, and not have to trek to Tottenham Court Road, or rely on some dodgy mail order company to get it fo you!

I'm interested in buying from the US store. But how does paying via paypal work regarding the currency difference? I don't have a PayPal account either. I've heard that you can pay without an account - is this true?

Actually, screw it. eBay sellers charge upwards of $25, which ATM is £16. It won't be more than that when it comes to UK PSN, so I'll just wait. I have enough games anyway.
