Creative lead Derek Littlewood has confirmed that Haze does not run in high definition.
He revealed the resolution as 576p and not 720p, which leaves the PS3 with the task of upscaling the image.
"We prioritise a nice smooth frame-rate over a different [resolution]," Littlewood told Ripten.
"Personally, I don't really buy the whole thing. People did the same with Call of Duty, they did the same with Halo, and they say with those games 'It's not running at true HD!' And it's like, 'I don't care.' If the game looks good and it runs smoothly, those are the important things to me."
Ubisoft has also revealed that Haze will require an installation of at least 4GB.
"You will need to go through a minimal install (about 4 Gigs) but not the whole game," said a community rep on the Ubisoft forums.
Haze is due out exclusively for PS3 this week. Look out for our thoughts soon.

Oh come on. That's the same fucking vertical resolution as standard definition. It's a fucking joke how more and more games simply can't be bothered to go 720p anymore. I hope these developers are hearing the outroar more and more. It gets incredibly public when their games get found out not to be 720p, and I hope it embarasses them enough not to even think about pulling it off again in future.

I said it in the forum game thread but I think it's disappointing that Free Radical's first PS3 game is effectively running at the same resolution as their previous PS2 game, TimeSplitters 3. The game looks blurry and the textures are especially weak so much so that it looks at times like a slick-looking PS2 game not one made specifically for the PS3.
I'm praying that the game plays a lot better than it looks but even so I was completely underwhelmed by the recent demo. Played like a mee-too Halo 3 clone with the novelty of having up to three other human players alongside you in co-op. Is this four-player co-op the real reason for the graphical downgrade or is the PS3 simply not as capable as Sony would have us believe? I can't help thinking that if this ever came out on the 360, it would be running at 640p or 720p and looking a lot less vaseline smeared... :? |

@bdc - I was playing high-definition games on my PC ten years ago at 1024x768 so it's a bit disconcerting that the two current "state-of-the-art" so-called HD consoles can't always manage to render games natively at 1280x720. I think it's clear now that the HD era as far as the consoles go is a little premature and we won't see proper HD games as standard until the next generation when the hardware will presumably be powerful enough to handle 1280x720 minimum for ALL games.

it's in fact disappointing that flagship titles of the new HD era, are not HD at all.... Halo, GTAIV, Haze etc... are not HD, and that just sucks. On the other hand i'm looking forward to Haze but with more prudence... and yes, most textures are very low. I can only hope that gameplay and story can compensate.

To be honest the ENTIRE game feels like a PS2 game, with the dated level design, graphics and gameplay. I downloaded the enormous (1.5GB!) demo only to turn it off in disgust after 5 minutes and went back to playing MoH Airborne as that is a far better game in every respect. Its like the last 10 years never happened. |

Voice acting was very grating but I got the feel this was deliberate to show the effects of the drug. --------------- I saw some videos of the rebels and the voice acting was just as bad... very cheesy. Multiplayer will be good (i hope), and the gameplay too because graphically it's just by HALO's standards...

Oh and another mandatory 4 GB HDD install which is sure to annoy PS3 owners with the 40 GB HDD. Doesn't bother me now particularly as I've installed a 320 GB HDD specifically because of the number of games with forced installs but I think it highlights a weakness of the PS3, namely its slow BD access speeds. That or lazy developers, one of the two!!! Console HDD installs IMO should always be OPTIONAL not mandatory.

This game always looked wrong. Me and many others pointed out that in the jungle scenes you couldn't make out the enemy with or without nectar. At the time we thought that was just because of early code. Seems the demo corrected that misconception. The game is crap sadly and why they made it exclusively PS3 now seems to be more because at 576p Microsoft simply wouldn't accept it.
I too have deleted the demo from my PS3 and will be settling back down to wait for Nija gaiden 2 and metal gear solid 4 |

PS3 have amazing games like Uncharted, GT Prologue, COD4 etc... that can perform amazingly despised they'r state of the art graphics, Haze should be just as good.... it's a dev problem, but don't diss the game for that, HAlo3 graphics are shit and yet many people seem to look at it like nectar from a junkie perspective , if Haze can deliver good gameplay and an extensive multiplayer, people will forget about HD, trust me...

Haze will get even more killed at retail now. I loved al FRD games up until now, but the Demo, and all the stuff I played while I still was a games journalist, really didn't convince me. I was planning to pick this up anyway, but with GRID being one week away, and the ol' COD4 microbe again rearing its head (Finished GTA4 this weekend, btw), I'll guess this will become a cheap ebay buy in a few months. Or maybe never, if Bad Company's online move lives up to its legacy. |

It's down to the slow BD drive sadly. It is quite possible for newer generations of PS3 to have a 2x or 4x drive installed but, these would actually end up sounding like the 360's jet engine of a drive (though people usually wrongly blame the 360's fans which are whisper quiet). It would also mean that some PS3 owners would need a mandatory install and others wouldn't, which would cause a riot of people screaming they'd been used a test lab rats. |

Aren't Free Radical made up of ex-Rare employees? If so then it's sad that they've gone from making technically impressive looking games that made the most of their respective hardware to making games that look like Hazy... sorry... Haze. Yeah, I know the gameplay is the most important aspect of a game but this game is running on an expensive console that cost me £425 so I'd have at least appreciated something moderately pretty to gawp at while I'm playing. Still I don't see this game as being anything more than a stop gap before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 in a few weeks...
