Haze delayed again

Until April at least.

In Q3 financial results released today, Ubisoft revealed that its upcoming game Haze has been delayed into fiscal year 2008-09.

The game, developed by Free Radical, was originally scheduled for release during the 2007 holiday period but was subsequently delayed until 2008. Some had expected the game to arrive in January.

Although no new release date has been given for the game, Ubisoft's 2008-09 fiscal year begins in April 2008.

The game was demonstrated at Leipzig in August and at GameCity in October.

Ubisoft has stated that Haze is currently a PS3 exclusive, but as the company has not discounted the possibility of the game appearing on the PC or Xbox 360, it is assumed that this will be a timed exclusive.

The company raised its 2008-09 guidance based in part upon Haze's delay.

GamesIndustry.biz woke up in a bath with a kidney missing earlier.

This is getting boring now - how many times are they going to delay it?
  • LeD #2 4 years ago

Until they manage to get their head around the PS3's architecture. I wouldn't worry about it too much, this has 7 written all over it.

Delayed... again. Interest is utterly waning now.

Not hyped enough for this to be a problem for me really. Maybe it'll be better for the delay and we'll have got over the current lot of quality FPS titles?
  • seasidebaz #5 4 years ago

    oh well, just another fps.

will it really be better than CoD4?

    no< /span>

The comments I've heard from members of the development team are that the delays have been because it just wasn't very good and wouldn't have stood a chance against the current crop of FPS'es available. Now whether the delays will actually be long enough to solve those issues I don't know, but at least it is good that they have recognised some flaws and are attempting to fix them.

If Free Radical spent less time making f'ing documentaries about the game they might have finished it by now.

I've seen a couple of videos and I have to say the game looked pretty terrible - can't understand why there's hype about this one so far.

    @Ceatlan

I've heard much the same, and from members of FR outwith the team. I'd guess this will mean their Lucasarts project and Timesplitters 4 will be pushed back a similar amount of time, or one will be rushed out first.
  • space_ace #11 4 years ago

apparently they are waiting for the yellow masks to become fashionable
  • Triggerhappytel #12 4 years ago

@ Ceatlan - well, it's good if Free Rad are admitting the game isn't up to scratch (rather than rush it out and let the marketing carry it), but if it's really not very good compared to some of the recent FPS behemoths then it'll need more than a few months of tweaking.

yup I'm with seasidebaz, they must be completely redoing the online features to give it a chance next to CoD 4 (my game of '07!), fingers crossed they can better it.......
  • bad09 #14 4 years ago

Well I don't have PS3 but I want them to finish this so they can concentrate of SW Battlefront 3!

    Hurry up FR!!!!!
  • Artemus #15 4 years ago

Better not delay this for much longer. When Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 are out, nobody will care anymore.
  • myiagros #16 4 years ago

Starting to lose enthusiasm for this game now. It looked great to fill the gap after xmas, but now it is falling into the release territory of much bigger titles like GTA IV and MGS4.
  • spitfire1945 #17 4 years ago

I think Free Radical is having hard times with PS3 architecture, as many other had.....

Haze has been caught in development hell since Leipzig 07. The reports back from the people who viewed the game were very negative and the developers were forced to look objectively at their game and realise it was very poor. So they had a choice, either they ignore their own views as well as others and push it out for Christmas 07 or delay it and try to fix the problems in the game to avoid anoth Blacksite fiasco. They have chosen the latter option despite the fact that Resistance Fall of Man 2 is in bound as well as Killzone 2.

I predict one of two things happening:

    1) The game gets delayed until November 08 which will be justified by Ubisoft saying the game needs more 'polish'. It will be an 'adequate shooter' with ratings in the region of 6-7/10. It will also bomb and be a budget title within 1 month of its release.

    2) Ubisoft cancel the title due to 'quality concerns'.

I bet no. 1 happens when really no. 2 should occur. Kill the game please, it's going to be still born when it arrives anyway.

  • Apologie #22 4 years ago

Haze is still an exclusive after all... and a good one, i don't mind to wait as long as the game get's out at it's best.
  • NAC #23 4 years ago

Why so negative? There is a third option, it is delayed and then well received ie Stalker
  • muscleblade #24 4 years ago

This should have been an Xbox 360 exclusive. If it was it would have been out ages ago. It would probably sell a lot more copies too.
  • skillian #25 4 years ago

Why would it sell more copies on Xbox 360 as an exclusive than Xbox and PS3 put together :/
  • kangarootoo #26 4 years ago

Ffs people. They have delayed to make improvements. That is all.

There are loads of games that don't give firm release dates, so when they delay nobody knows. And there are other titles that just ship on time, but turn out to be bobbins. We can't really draw much of a conclusion from this.

As for comparisons to COD4. COD4 is bloody AWESOME, so not being "as good" is hardly a mark of failure. Is a Porshe Boxster shite just because its not as good as a Audi R8? Not saying Haze will be the Porshe of FPS games, but lets just wait and see instead of pretending to know wtf we are all on about.
