Harry Potter back again in late 2008 News

Electronic Arts has unsurprisingly revealed plans to accompany the upcoming Harry Potter film with a game.

This time it's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, otherwise known as the sixth or penultimate book in the series.

The story follows Harry and pals as they try to find out who the Half-Blood Prince - the author of a rather good potions book - is. Along the way there are plenty of duels to be done, conspiracies to look into, love triangles to untangle and robes and wizard hats to put on. Oh, and a Quidditch cup to win.

"We believe that the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game represents a milestone in the movie tie-in genre," said Harvey Elliott, head of developer EA Bright Light.

"Building on the technological advancements of previous games in the series and with a particular focus on the unique control system of Nintendo's Wii, the team here is working closely with the film-makers to create an immersive interactive experience that captures the story, the action, the excitement and, above all, the fun of the film."

It will be interesting to see if the new quality-focused EA can manage better than a 5/10 this time around.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out on Mac, PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii and DS later this year.

I wonder: are they going to have two games for the 7th book since it's being split into 2 films?

Actually scratch that, I'm guessing they'll release the first half in a game then make the conclusion ridiculously over-priced DLC.

/giving EA ideas.

They'll certainly have to do something slightly original with the last book because it's not in the normal school environment. Good luck beating 5/10 anyhow...

So the game is developed with the wii in mind, with the others just hangaround cosoles?

That actually makes sense.

It would be cool if they turned the tables completely on the last game, turned it into a sort of wizard version of Crackdown. Maybe just have Harry and them pop in once in a while, while the player controls one of the renegade aurors. Now that would actually be worth playing.

I thought the last game was pretty good. If they can knock out a game of similar quality again I'd happily play through it.

I enjoyed the last one, I hope they can build on it and improve the Wii controls.

What the fuck? Are they really, those bastards?!

Anyway, I like the books, quite like the films, couldn't give a flying fuck about the game tie-ins.

The last one on the Wii was one of the best uses of the remote to date. Great game. Too short, though.
