Halo: Reach Xbox 360 bundle announced

Limited Edition has custom sound effects.

UPDATE: Microsoft's just sent word that the bundle is indeed a GAME and Gamestation exclusive. It'll cost £249.99, and will be available from all GAME stores on 14th September.

The Halo: Reach Limited Edition Wireless Controller and the Halo: Reach Limited Edition Wireless Headset will be available in the UK on 3rd September. So a little bit later than in the US. The controller will cost £39.99 and the headset will cost £34.99. Both accessories are being produced in limited quantities and are available for pre-order at participating retailers.

ORIGINAL STORY: Microsoft has announced a limited edition Halo: Reach Xbox 360 250GB bundle.

It'll be out on 14th September (the same day as the game) and will set you back $399. No European release or pricing information has been announced, but Eurogamer's heard it'll be a GAME exclusive.

So, what do you get for your cash? The 250GB model comes with a Halo series themed casing designed by Bungie. You'll also get two silver wireless controllers with artwork inspired by the game.

Also in the box is a Halo: Reach themed headset, a standard edition copy of Halo: Reach, a limited edition Elite Armour set token, and an episode of Halo: Legends.

And get this: As an added touch, the specially designed console "not only captures the look and feel of the game, but also features custom sound effects from the Halo universe".

Microsoft means it when it says limited edition. The bundle is available in limited quantities and only while supplies last, "so fans who want to own a piece of the Halo mythology are encouraged to pre-order quickly", the official blurb insists. But then it would say that, wouldn't it?

If you don't fancy re-mortgaging your house just so you can wrap your grubby mitts around the sci-fi cool controllers and headset, fear not. Both will be sold separately.

The Limited Edition Wireless Controller will be $60, and will come with a Covenant Banshee Avatar token for Xbox Live. The Limited Edition Wireless Headset will cost $50. Both accessories will be made available by late August. Again, no European pricing has been announced.

Bungie unboxed the bundle and put a video on the internet. Snaps are below.

Halo: Reach is due out exclusively on the Xbox 360 on 14th September. It'll probably be a big deal.

If there's no Euro release yet, why do we want to know? This is Europe, not America.
Other than that, like the look of the Xbox, but won't even buy the game, let alone a new Xbox with it on.
So why am I commenting on this? I have no idea. Can I just add that Halo has never grabbed me. Dunno why, it just isn't very good. IMHO anyway.

    SEXUAL HARASSMENT PANDA !

    I'll be getting this then.

So you're paying $100 for the extras, including the game, which will probably cost $50 at retail itself. So $50 for the special design.

Spose that's not tooooo bad. Still seems daft though.

EDIT: Oh, you get an extra controller too. That's actually quite a good deal, apart from the fact it'll be bloody ugly ;)

EDIT 2: wow, negged for... what exactly? Saying it's a good deal? Or saying it'll be an ugly machine? You people, you make me laugh! I actually upset someone with those words. Unbelievable. So sensitive! :D

But it really is absolutely hideous, especially those pads.

If you're a Halo fan looking to upgrade that's a bit of a bloody bargain.

Its not too badly priced but remember the previous special editions (Forza3, MW2, Final Fantasy) came with a bigger hard drive over the standard console, so you are actually getting less for your money. I am still tempted though as my old 20GB model is on it's way out.

I presume the custom sound effects involve the power and disc tray buttons. If so this is a great idea, only wish they'd doen it sooner for Crackdown 2 so that when you turned the console on it made the Agility Orb noise.

I kind of want to wait for a Kinect bundle but I guess that's out the window now.

@Mao, dude, you are obsessed. Play a video-game or something.

looks quite nice, but not better than a black one IMHO. I'm still resisting buying one. The wife would hang my balls from the front door.

My concern with LE consoles is, what if they go tits up. The replacement will surely be bog a standard version ?
  • geeza2020 #16 2 years ago

well its seems like a good deal price wise, but IMO thats one of the ugliest designs i've seen, especially the pads.
  • geeza2020 #17 2 years ago

i prefer a simple finish to my electronic products, i think fake bits or armour/metal whatever they're supposed to be on these just make them look like cheap toys. Just IMO though.

"what, the new slim with the halo reach branding looks super cool. i can see this bundle combined with kinect securing the holiday season for msoft."

Idiot. a LIMITED edition securing the holiday season for Microsoft...never laughed so much in my life.
  • Centrifugal #19 2 years ago

I'm considering it. Even though I've been harping on since E3 about the new Xbox being a pointless buy if you have a working 360, the Halo fanboy within me is making be a hypocrite.
  • ronuds #20 2 years ago

Almost disappointed that I got the 360 S early now - that's sexy fine!
  • TOOTR #21 2 years ago

    Rodhull - That's a great point.

What is to stop MS releasing custom sounds on marketplace to set up differently for your xbox in the same way people can customize their Windows wav files or ringtones on a phone?

Of course, it would be even nicer if they allowed us to do it ourselves from a USB stick to the HDD....yeah right.

But maybe Avatar awards could unlock in a game. Not sure my missus would be happy if everytime I turned on the xbox she heard a L4D Boomer vomming but hey - why not? :)
  • Penguinzoot #22 2 years ago

    ... L4D Boomer ...

    I'd buy that for a dollar ;)
  • lockload #23 2 years ago

@Jackface No your paying £50 extra for the game and an extra controller not a bad deal
  • ronuds #24 2 years ago

You're getting a game, extra controller, wireLESS headset (console normally comes with wired), custom case (big deal, but love the colour), some downloadable content and an episode of Halo: Legends... whatever that is.

So, you're getting more than your money's worth.
