Halo 3: ODST tops UK charts
Professor Layton in at two.
Halo 3: ODST is top of the All-Formats Top 40 chart this week following its 22nd September launch on Xbox 360.
Tuesday was an unusual slot, but apparently that didn't put off shoppers, with 64 per cent of the game's first-week sales going through in its first 24 hours.
According to data compilers Chart-Track, however, the Rookie hasn't quite got the beating of the Master Chief, whose last outing in Halo 3 enjoyed the fourth-best first-week sales for a single-format release in recorded history. ODST managed 12th.
Elsewhere, Professor Layton and Pandora's Box puzzled nobody by taking second spot ahead of last week's number one, Need for Speed: Shift. Layton's last game, The Curious Village, saw its sales go up by 36 per cent, too - enough to bump it to 18th.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was another new arrival at seven, while NCsoft's ambitious MMORPG Aion swept in at 11, making it the highest-placed PC exclusive.
Further down there was a new entry for MySims Agents at 16, and re-entries for Madden (32), the immutable LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (33) and Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades (36).
With apologies to games like Risen and Beatorator, next week's number one will be FIFA 10. See this week's top 40 below.

And with very good reason. FIFA thoroughly deserves every sale it gets, and then some.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
So it trounces most games sales in a day, and just because it sold less than Halo 3, which sold bazillions, that means gamers are bored with Halo? Ok....

Like a few of the posters above me I actually enjoyed ODST more than Halo 3, there was very little level backtracking and it let you play, in quick succession, each of the best type of action set piece you would expect in any Halo title. And played on Heroic it wasn't particularly short either :/

ODST so far has taken the best of Halo and Halo 2 and combined them into a greatest hits type package, the inclusion of Firefight rounds of the title and tbh for £30 i think it also represents good value for money.
Heroic was about an 8 hr play through for me (took my time exploring) and legendary on co-op with my buddies will be fun, not to mention the hours i will sink into firefight.
Bungie have at last recaptured that wining formula of 30 seconds of fun over and over, they lost their way with 3 with too many grand set pieces and only one way t odo things. They should have concentrated on the tight short battles with multiple ways to complete the scenario which they have done in ODST and which make it a great game.
WIN.

5 hours to finish it? wtf? Where's the joy is racing through this? Took me 3 evenings on Heroic, easily 12 hours or more as I was exploring at my lesiure and playing cautiously. Firefight's the icing on the cake, so much fun. GOTY for me.

In the case of Halo and HL all of them have been worth the money. When a game is good, you don't always have to change a lot especially if the game is thick on gameplay.

There were massive changes and innovations between HL1 and HL2.

You make that sound like there's even the slightest chance of even Ep 3, let alone HL3, turning up the next ten years.

Not disputing the fact that ODST is a great package - given by the comments on its release, it seems to be something good. Yet, deducting that 360 has better exclusives because of ODST selling millions, is pushing it. I think it sells millions because a very large part of 360 owners precisely have that console, because of allegiance to the Halo-brand. That group will buy any Halo being Metacritic'd above 60 - this one seems to be quite special, so a even larger portions buys into it.
You mention L4D2 - I hardly know the game, except that it is about Zombies and apparently quite good. I do not believe sells a system. You mention Forza 3, while undoubtedly a great game, it will not necessarily convert potential buyers to 360, since GT has the bigger name and will come to PS3. And you mention Halo which I discussed.
You might be right that this Christmas the three you mention will have higher sales than any of Sony's exclusives. I believe the reason to be that 360 owners really have not a lot more AAA to buy this year. PS3 owners have a lot to look forward to though and I believe that will be reflected in end-of-year sales of the platform...

Good idea by MS, starve the customers of exclusives all year and then release three a month apart. It's good that there is something to salvage 2009 for 360 only gamers.

The flashbacks are classic Halo and the New Mombasa hub with its thick atmosphere, log-hunting, and slightly-sinister-yet-chirpy AI are where Halo meets System Shock/Bioshock. Great atmosphere and the most consistently good Halo game since... well ever really.

what you going on about?!! ODST is a fantastic game, for example although it may not look as good as Killzone 2 it out classes it in the gameplay department.
The game is well worth anyones money and can be bought for £29.99 online and £34.99 is stores which makes it cheaper than most titles latley.

I just hope my fun with the game doesn't bother anyones bad vibe.

It is also a great way of updating your ignore list. TBH I have not seen one troll here... but it looks like 7 messages are "missing"

And 10 minutes ago:
halo fans are idiots so what do you expect. All this tells M$ is that they OWN YOU!
Coming from a person who says he hates stereotypes, and just "expressed a honest opinion".
Bah... whatever.

Why, when reading the 360 section, do I have a massive fucking banner ad for the new PSP?

(oh noes, teh Snoy fanbois in ere are voting me dowen! Wooods it helps if I r complane abt teh Perfessar Leyton 2?)

"ODST doesnt look amazing and neither does halo 3. Both look like shite"
You still wonder why nobody seems to want a discussion with you? Or don't quite buy that you're not a PS3 fanboy? *understatement*
There's nothing worse than a self important PS3 troll who beleives people actually want to listen to their bullshit, maybe, just maybe they want decent discusions without a horde of fuckwits trying to derail them every time.
It certainly looks to be the case that some of you see a healthy discussion, with people saying how much they are enjoying a 360 game or maturely weighing up the good and the bad and you think "oh shit... best just balance it out with a RROD comment or tell them I think its shit"... I know which fanbase looks to be the most satisfied to me because that kind of behaviour suggests they aren't, infact it seems pretty bitter indeed.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
because 360 owners might want to buy the PSP? What with them liking games n'all?

BTW - reading your post history is a big laugh with the high and mighty attitude you are putting on here, not only are you a hypocrite, but some of your posts are earily Tin-foil hat like too, this one gave me a chuckle because it shows both of these traits in one:
Regarding Richards article/opinnions on GT5s damage model:
"Another irresponsible article i say. Is M$ getting their dirty hands involved?!?!"
If you dont like "M$" thats your choice, if you dont like 360 or it's games, everyone is fine with that too!... but why bother pretending you can discuss things in a mature manner when you clearly can't?
Now kindly stop whining that everybody is being unfair or maybe find somewhere else?

why do you say that first part? How long ago has MS announced Alan Wake?!? It is exactly the same, yet you complain about Sony? Why donnie?
MS announced L4D2, Forza 3, ODST at this years E3 (I think some have been known before E3), I'll give you that, but you do need to take into account that these are sequels from IP's already having had a predecessor on current gen HW. So they are inherently easier to develop than original IP's like Alan Wake, The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain, no? I prefer to wait for all of these to be great, instead of "within a certain amount of time for some not to complain about them".
so, I do not agree with your second part either.
