Halo 3 most popular on Live

Halo 3 is already the most popular game on 360, according to the amount of unique users playing the game while connected to Live.

The list of our current favourites was published on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog - the director of programming for Xbox Live - and saw Bungie's latest overtake previous champ Gears of War to claim the top spot.

Further down titles like Rainbow Six Vegas continued to perform well, as did the Call of Duty 4 beta and, subsequently, previous instalment Call of Duty 3.

The Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 demo also made the list, joining BioShock, Forza 2, Madden NFL 08 and Guitar Hero II to round out the top ten.

Elsewhere Sonic 2 proved to be the most popular Live Arcade title of recent times, while Halo 2 retained its long-standing seat on the Xbox throne.

    COD4 Beta was a revelation for me. To the point I cant really stomach the idea of playing Halo in MP now...bunny hops, open plan maps, regenerating health bars just dont appeal after COD4.

    Have to say as a big Halo 2 MP fan, i was playing Halo 3 with gritted teeth last night. i am pretty convinced that you can't kill someone with a full clip of the AR (unless you're in the U.S. that is) and the split second burst-beat down routine is really starting to grate! The Beta was never like this. When is COD4 out??

    Got to say i would be addicted to Halo 3 online aswell.... if i hadn't been one of the people playing the COD4 beta, now everything i do in life is just a countdown to the greatest ever multiplayer FPS being released.

    I haven't played online yet, but I was thinking in the sp campaign that several of the guns seem underpowered compared to H2. Specifically the shotgun and the zoom scope 3 shot rifle gun thing (don't remember what its called).

    Is anyone else finding this?

    This is not a critisism of the game btw, so please don't anyone flame me for even suggesting this might be a flaw. I am already bored in advance at the very thought of it.

    Yeah i think all the guns are a bit too weak. I found myself using melee more than anything else. It only dawned on me how bad it was when i started playing halo1 last night. I think smg in halo 3 is actually a BB gun. Still love halo 3 though,

    Loved my only online session with Halo 3 so strongly... even if I was playing over a 56k connection. The only problem that is preventing me to keep playing on my slow connection is that the more you play on the same map the more laggy it becomes, probably because of the number of corpses/items around getting higher and higher. So now I'm waiting for my new WiFi connection to arrive before diving back into the best MP experience I've ever had.

    way too much emphasis on melee in my humble opinion and pot luck who gets in the first strike. they have toned down the auto aim which makes the BR a lot trickier to 4 shot kill. and like i said above, the AR (from Halo 1) feels a bit useless just as a rifle. as a butt to smack someone with it's pretty handy. Sword is toned down but replaced by hammer of Doooom! maybe i just suck! many americans tell me i do!

    Wait... did they just say that Bioshock was in the Top Ten for game played over Xbox Live?!? Um... did I miss out on the secret hidden multiplayer mode of Bioshock or summin?

    Remember that "playing the game while connected to Live" doesn't mean "played multiplayer over Live", it means "playing the game while connected to Live" (duh!). Which is why Bioshock appears on the list, and why it doesn't represent the quality or quantity of multiplayer available.

    +1 on the 'weak guns in Halo 3' comments. The armored Brutes compound this feeling though, as you've got to work through their armor before you really begin wounding them. The Chieftans were a special pain in the neck.

    Haven't played deathmatch yet in the released version.

    You can easily kill someone with a full clip and have a half-dozen bullets left - you just need to shoot your opponent in the face.
