Just calling it "Halo: Shock Troopers" would have sounded a lot better, rather than an acronym the average person will not have a clue about.

Well it's for the fans obviously, those will know what the abbreviation's all about. The rest can carry on deriding Halo as the most banal thing ever in video games.

Why change it? Recon was fine! Bloody name changes.

Halo Attention Deficit Disorder would have been better but then again, Halo will sell no matter what they name it.

You have to wonder who thought that was a better title and who the hell said "yeah, that is better we'll use it"

Halo 3: OCD - you have to re-load your weapon 15 times whenever you run out and keep running back to your Warthog to make sure the doors are locked.

Silly and pointless name change IMO... there was nothing wrong with Halo 3: Recon and even Halo 3: Shock Troopers as Eraysor suggested sounds 100X better than some silly acronym. But, you know, Halo 3... LOL

I bet this is not the latest name change. I expect a monthly name change to sustain the hype. In the end, it's only the 'Halo 3' part that matters... ;)

Who cares. Mums across the land will still walk into their local Game asking for 'that new Halo game' regardless of what they call it.

Calling it 'Recon' was good fan service, so this is a little disappointing.

Isn't it like what you used to see on the back off "love" messages at school?

O(nce) D(estroyed) S(till) T(rue)

I can't remember it exactly.

Next it'll be HALO: SWALK

If i remember rightly from the Halo books (what? I'm a geek) ODSTs are affectionately known as "Helljumpers".

Though i suppose having that as the subtitle might have made it sound like a game about an item of knitwear with demonic tendencies...

Its weird, as I was calling it Halo ODST, and kept correcting myself every time I did it. I only did it cause i got it wrong the first time and it stuck. Thanks Bungie!

Another vote for "Halo 3: Shock Troopers".

The "Orbital Drop" bit sounds like a fancy way of describing turds dropping into a toilet bowl.

Given the fact that this game is mostly targeted at teens with ADHD, the naming of the expansion makes sense.

Ok, so, so far the following better names - as in snappier, more informative or simply not containing an unknown (to the public) acronym - have been proposed in this thread:

Halo 3: Shock Troopers
Halo 3: Helljumpers

And of course the original:

Halo3: Recon

Any of those would be good, you know what's going on (well, "Helljumpers" is a bit vague but a lot more interesting than ODST) I dislike it when companies try to make their games sound more "militaristic" by tagging on these sorts of acronyms. Yes the military use acronyms: they also know what the hell they mean (as in, they don't need to spell them out in little words underneath the acronym).

Yeah that sucks I read it quick and thought is was Orbital Sock Drop Troopers!

(Although maybe that would explain why I can never find a PAIR of socks after washing em!)

Also I must admit having Halo:ODST made me think it was on about the sound track! (Official Digital Sound Track)

Should Just rename it Halo: Starship Troopers

Why does Halo always engender the 'insult' of 'ADHD teens'?
