Halo 3 due this autumn

Beta might be 'late spring'.

Halo 3 will be released for Xbox 360 this autumn.

Just in case you were in any doubt, Bungie released a handsome teaser image for the game (look down and left) as part of its weekly website update. Having introduced it without much fanfare, the developer notes, "it does contain ONE very important piece of information. Cough." Those little minxes.

The team also moved to clarify details about the Halo 3 beta. With Crackdown due out in the US this Tuesday, and home to a beta invitation, some gamers had leapt to the conclusion that they would be able to play Halo 3's multiplayer beta pretty much instantly. Not so. "Crackdown will be available in stores starting Tuesday, 2/20, but the Halo 3 multiplayer beta start date is still being finalised. We're still aiming for a spring release, but it could be more like late spring," the developer notes.

Last week saw confirmation that Crackdown owners would need to keep the disc in the drive to play the Halo 3 beta - a detailed echoed in the latest Bungie update. Still, judging by how much we're still enjoying the game, that's probably something you'll naturally be doing anyway. Crackdown is due out in Europe this Friday, 23rd February.

Anyway, for more from Bungie, including wallpaper-sized versions of that Halo 3 teaser, be sure to check the latest website update.

Jesus! you'd think bungie would have it ready for the release of crackdown for fooks sake.

    Lazy gits.

I do like that teaser poster, infact it's my avatar in the vast majority of forums I go to now. (Yes, quite sad)
God damn I'm going to have a lot of nobbers trying to bring Crackdown back to my store next week, ''It says there's a Halo Beta in there, but I can't access it, Waaahhhh''
Ohh and the obligatory EG reply to this story...
Fooking Bungie, Fookin Microsoft, drip feeding us info about Halo 3, I don't care, God what are they going to tell us next? The colour of John's undercrackers? I hate Halo, Halo's shit!!!....But why am I here?

Halo 3 out in Autumn? ...me thinks that's a little too early.
  • Mudo #6 5 years ago

There's no hint in the picture. The new information it reveals is the shockhorror surprise of the release date being in Autumn.

How is Autumn too early? Do bear in mind that Autumn doesn't end until the 21st of December. Unless you're talking about Southern Hemisphere seasons, in which case of course they're being Northern Hemisphere centric, and oh well etc.

So is that Northern Hemisphere autumn or Southern Hemisphere? Or is it going to be in Fall?
  • Blerk #8 5 years ago

It'll be out for Christmas, whether it's finished or not. :-)
  • Steroyd #9 5 years ago

    /counts months on fingers

Sorry I'm mixing Autumn with Holiday period.

    Yeah that sounds about right.

Indeed it will be out this Xmas. They have been working 3+ years on this now and all beta testers now point out that the game is in a very nice and stable stage. 9 more months of polish should result in a finished product.
  • Salubrious_K #11 5 years ago

Well this isn't very useful info! What's Halo 3? Am I somehow meant to have heard of this game already?
  • peterfll #12 5 years ago

Hmmm, they had a similar amount of time for Halo 2 and that ended up having more spit than polish.

    (I enjoyed both Halo's)

So Halo 3 won't be released until November then?

I must admit I'm a little disappointed as it was supposed to be coming out "Spring 2007" but after the mixed reception to Halo 2's story mode I guess the more time they spend on it the better really, it being the final chapter and all that.

"There's no hint in the picture."

    I think it's the "3"!

"Do bear in mind that Autumn doesn't end until the 21st of December."

Only if you're interested in equinoxes. For everyone else (including shops) Autumn is September/October/November.

They have to get Halo 3 out well before December because so many people buy or order their Xmas presents early.

Autumn is the same thing as Fall, Fall is just the American word for it.

Im pretty sure I read somewhere it was November 3rd ?
  • morriss #18 5 years ago

Fall. That's oct/nov is it not?

TBH I'm more looking forward to Crackdown at the moment!

Plus I have a Halo 3 beta invite that doesn't involve Crackdown... so surely making some people have the crackdown disc in is pointless, as it won't apply to most cases? I assumed it was linked to your gamer tag, cos thats all the information I had to give.
  • kissthestick #20 5 years ago

    beta late spring

    May confirmed?
  • Lukus #21 5 years ago

Yeah Morriss, or at least they're the main months I associate with Autumn. I'd bet large amounts on a November release. Unless it isn't finished in time.

  • spongebob #23 5 years ago

Bring on hordes of annoyingly bad aliens who make retarded sounds. I hate Halo's world so much. The gameplay is fine however, which makes it even more annoying.
  • _Price_ #24 5 years ago

    Come on: 'Late Spring'? 'Autumn'?

    'Drip, drip, drip' was right.
  • Lukus #25 5 years ago

I'm glad I now know your stance.

And surprise, surprise, you are still reading and commenting on it.

Since I preordered Crackdown long before Halo 3 multiplayer beta was announced, not a jot do I care. They can take as long as they want. I love the Halo series and am looking forward to the third part of the trilogy but unless they've completely banned the loudmouthed, American twits that ruined the previous two online experiences then I'm guessing that the third online multiplayer will be ruined as well.

Now, for those shallow people who only ordered Crackdown for the multiplayer beta. Hwa, ha, ha! Maybe you'll give this cel-shaded title a chance and discover there is a world outside of "realistic graphics" while you're waiting in your narrow hovels for the beta to begin.

This is probably a sensible move by Microsoft.
I question the logic in letting the public and rival companies see you’re most important game before its ready.
The recent screenshots have been disappointing; visually Halo3 needs to look better or at least comparable to Gears of war.
That said I'm sure the final game will look the business.

What a surprise. Bungie in Halo 3 'Autumn' release shocker. Never saw that one coming.........

Come on EG!!! Was it really worth dedicating a news article to info we all knew anyway months ago. Halo 3 released at the end of the year and the beta in spring we knew already!!!

Anyway, who else is sick to fucking death of hearing about the Halo 3 beta in Crackdown. FFS, I'm getting Crackdown as I loved the demo and it sounds like a true AAA game. I couldn't care less about an unfinished - likely to be just one map - multiplayer beta of Halo 3. Multiplayer I couldn't give a shit about, A multiplayer beta demo of an unfinished game I care even less about. Is there a version of Crackdown that is cheaper with no Halo 3 beta? Give me that one.

Give me Halo 3 when it's released. In the meantime Bungie, STFU and quit being so arrogant about the whole thing.

/puts on best Brian Connelly impression

    "It's a GAAAAAMMMME!"

    Or is it just me?

I was hoping that they'd decided to un-tard the dual wielding system (ie you have two single-handed guns and pressing x draws the other one in your off hand) but this latest update pretty much dashes those hopes.
