Halo 3 coming to Games on Demand

As are DMC4 and Saints Row.

Halo 3 will be released digitally on Xbox Live's Games on Demand service on 20th April.

In Europe, the Bungie shooter will be joined the same week by guilty pleasure Saints Row, and preceded on 13th April by Devil May Cry 4. North Americans get Tomb Raider: Legend instead.

All this was confirmed by Xbox's Major Nelson in a Marketplace release schedule for the coming weeks.

You'll be able to get price reductions on Left 4 Dead's Crash Course DLC and Borderlands' The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned add-on from 12th and 19th April respectively. Retro fiends can enjoy Final Fight: Double Impact on Xbox Live Arcade in a week's time, on the 14th.

Expect to see add-ons for Mega Man 10 this week, and Forza Motorsport 3 next week.

Seems like April will be as quiet for new releases on Xbox Live as it is in the shops. Roll on May!

If I remember correctly, Halo 3 is one of the games that is actually slower when played from the hard drive?

I'm assuming that, as it is an MS game, it'll cost 15 sheets, which isn't too bad.
  • masterson #2 2 years ago

I wonder if they've done anything to improve Halo3 performance from HDD...
  • matrim83 #3 2 years ago

Also wonder which of the maps are included? If its just the ones it shipped with then it will be a bit retarded.
  • CaptainQuint #4 2 years ago

Do people actually buy Xbox games this way? The GoD shop is a complete rip off.
  • GamesConnoisseur #5 2 years ago

I agree that the GoD is far too expensive when second hand sales are so much cheaper currently, however for them to continue to push out the GoD games and expanding the library in a big way. There MUST be some profitable sales and hey you dont have to buy if you dont want to as no one is forcing you!

Still puzzled why people would choose this over cheaper alternatives. I can see attraction only if I m playing certain games regularly, ie Halo3 MP and cant be arsed to change disks but that enough a reason?!
  • matrim83 #6 2 years ago

^^ Beats me. I dont think many people do TBH. If it was doing well we would have heard about it. Problem isnt just the silly prices but the stupidly limited HDD and the ridiculous price of bigger HDDs. So not only you get ripped off on the game price itself but just to play it you have to get ripped off on the HDD price as well. And I think thats also what stops many people from buying from the GoD service. At least it stopped me.

If they make their HDDs cheaper (and it would have to be a LOT cheaper) than what it currently sells for I bet they would sell more of these GoD.

If MS made these games £10 I would pick up a few GoD titles of games I missed. But £15-£20 for games you can pick up cheaper on disk means I will pass on this service.

MS deals of the week have been good lately
  • youhavenomail #8 2 years ago

That ShopTo advert next to this news article offering Halo 3 for under £10 is pwning Games On Demand right now, I tell thee.
  • GamesConnoisseur #9 2 years ago

Makes lots of sense if HDD and GoD games are both at least half of what they costs then we would have see sales of both quadrupled in a big way.

I too myself would pick up a few GoD games if that.

Borderlands DLC price reduction, I really hope that's mirrored on the PSN too. 2K have so far been very good with Borderlands, actually observing the exchange rate and charging £6.29 for their DLC rather than inflating it up to £8 like other publishers do.

I shall be watching and waiting for this.

Breaking news: Rip off merchant has news wares in stock!
  • carrotcake #12 2 years ago

I'm expecting the Mega Man 10 add on to be Bass mode for roughly 2 quid. I have the ps3 version so hopefully Bass turns up in the Thursday ps store update. As for Halo 3, I expect that will be 20 quid.
  • metalangel #13 2 years ago

Save you money and get Defense Grid for 400pts this week instead.
  • Syrette #14 2 years ago

    £20 for Saint's Row then?

I'd be appalled at having to pay 20 quid for the sequel never mind the original.

Microsoft have a decent little system here with Games On Demand which they ruin with ridiculous prices.
  • CaptainQuint #15 2 years ago

We must really wind you up, huh?

I'm glad I don't get annoyed by people moaning on the Internet.
  • Syrette #16 2 years ago

    -1 for that ^?

Do I detect an Xbot presence?
  • Shikasama #17 2 years ago

bulkpack - What else should we talk about in GOD threads? How awesome it is that games many years old are being made available? The price IS the major issue with GOD. I agree with a guy above, at a tenner I'd probably punt some of these games but 20 quid for a game I paid a tenner for the sequel for. 5 months ago. No.

And I shall give you a "+1" for the ingenious detective work and cutting edge wit.

As an earlyish adopter I only have a 20GB drive. Consequently, I shan't be buying anything on GOD.

    Go me!
  • Shikasama #20 2 years ago

beemoh - Actually no, that's not how economics work and you don't speak for me. I can safely say that at a tenner I would be happy to buy some GOD games on the off-chance I'd enjoy them. Just like I buy pre-owned games I'm not necessarily aware of beforehand on that same off chance. If you can't see why people complain about the GOD prices, or see them as unjustifiable expensive then you are missing some vital Common Sense organs.
  • Koborover #21 2 years ago

Only a few morons would complain about £10 for GoD, generally most people can agree with fair prices.

We have been through this many times. Games on Demand cost RRP. A shop can sell it for less.

MS need to pay for the bandwidth, server space, publisher cut, yadda yadda. And if they start to undercut retailers then retailers will likely take issue. It is like that urban legend about the light bulb that never breaks and the light bulb companies do not want to release.
  • CaptainQuint #23 2 years ago

If the first Bad Company game was a tenner, I'd already have it on my hard drive. Instead I'll get it pre-owned from Blockbuster or somewhere similar.

    Go consumer power!!!
  • BastoJ #24 2 years ago

To be fair I could see these being much cheaper if they went the iTunes route and made it so you only got one download. As it is part of the reason for the price is to cover the bandwidth costs of some people who will download the games again and again (because of small hard-drive or w/e). Equally I could see the price point being quite good if this service carries over to the next Xbox and lets you download them onto that...
  • Apostle #25 2 years ago

Hmm I just wonder - buy Halo 3 GoD and get a Reach beta key? Plausible.
  • Ultimatum #26 2 years ago

Hey gayboys, maybe if you had more than 2 fuckin quid to rub together, you would be downloading games, music, films, WHATEVER, without a care in the world....GoD is for people like me who are sat at home getting fellated by their bitch and thinking "what was that game I really wanted to play 2 years ago?", then seeing it on GoD and downloading it and not giving a fuck about the price because you have money in the bank (what you think about that ?) and anyway you are too fucking high to get in the car and drive around to a bunch of shitty second hand game shops which may or may not have the game in question...
  • CaptainQuint #27 2 years ago

    Ha ha ha!

    There's always one.
  • espibara #28 2 years ago

    OHhhhhhh man FACE PALM!!!!!!!!!!

But it for 5-7 quid second hand nuff said.
  • TRUTH #29 2 years ago

iTunes is actually more pricey if you buy the whole album...also the sound is not as good compared cd (bass and vocals sound flat compared to the cd, also muffled when played loud...electronic-techno-ambient-soft beats can sound esp flat!).. esp when burnt onto cdr (which don't have a long life span and get damaged very easily - so end up buying more to replace), you also don't get the case and inserts/cd artwork - so it's pretty useless unless you stare at a screen to decide what you want to lsten too.

GoD is pricey - sometimes though you can't be bothered to buy/wait for a game that your sometimes become curious about; so you end up downloading late evening...happened with me with Pure (good game)

im actually quite suprised tht MS didn't include halo 3 at launch to promote their new GOD service. either way, the prices are ridiculous and only older games are released. if new games were released at the same time as the retail disc version, they might get some extra sales. otherwise, its jus following the path of a soon to be dead service, since only the son of some rich arab prince wud pay those prices when a brand new disc version costs less than half those prices
