Halo 2 DLC issues resolved

Frags to riches.

Microsoft and Bungie have solved whatever problem was preventing people downloading Halo 2 DLC ahead of the loss of Xbox 1 support on Live in April.

In order to access the various map packs in time for the FPS game's grand send-off in two months' time, just fire up Halo 2, make sure you're on Xbox Live, and find the Content Download option through the menus.

This news item clearly isn't long enough, so here's a gratuitous link to our Halo 2 gamepage, where you can read the original review and find lots of other relics of Xbox Live's first huge success story.

Who is still downloading this? I can't really see anybody needing it now. Switch to Halo 3, you're stuck in the past.

ALOT of people still play H2 because they think H3 is broken (it's actually the other way round) due to the BR being less powerfull in H3 and more power given to grenades, the way it was in H:CE.

Also even though I prefer H3 over H2 I will still be there to see off H2, it provided me with nearly 3 years of fun. RIP H2.

I will be there too. I know people still play it but I would have thought that all those people already have all the DLC. Who would start playing Halo 2 now? I'll see you online soon I guess :-)

So will this work on Xbox 360 or will you need the original Xbox to play it? I am quite keen to say goodbye as well but no longer have my old Xbox.

Just load Halo 2 in your 360 as normal, and it'll emulate it as if you're using an Xbox 1 - with the old school Xbox Live interface and everything - so it should just work the same way.

Shame to send it end, one of the pioneers of online console fps's

It was THE pioneer of console online FPS. Nothing else came close to the functionality for ages.

You need a hard drive for the 360 to be able to emulate Xbox 1 games. In case anyone wasn't aware.

There will be a lot of people who want to say goodbye to Halo 2, who went online and couldn't download the DLC, which means they couldn't play matchmaking and say goodbye to Halo 2 properly. Now they can, which is great. I wonder if the other Xbox 1 DLC has been restored, or if it's just Halo 2...

I used to play Halo1 online through XB Connect and my PC and All Seeing Eye; tricking the box into thinking there was a system linked Xbox in the room.

Way before XBOX LIVE even existed - had many a night wowing my visiting friends with that one.

Then Halo 2 and live launched, and suddenly i wasnt so special.

it wasn't just HALO2 DLC though right?,it was all XBOX 1 DLC...they wanna sort out the Star Wars Battlefield 2 DLC and make it free now, everytime i go to that game it doesn't recognize the DLC and i have to redownload it and pay for it again!!!!...guess its no use worrying about it now with it going in April
  • Sunyavadin #13 2 years ago

Well no, because most of us who enjoy these games will still be playing them online just as we do with Halo:CE. Virtual lans.
So we kinda want to keep our damn DLC.
