Halo 2 achievements detailed

See what the PC wants from you.

The Microsoft development team converting Halo 2 to Windows Vista has spoken out about some of the achievements you'll be able to unlock as part of the game's integration with "Games for Windows - LIVE".

There will be over 40 unlockable achievements, the Hired Gun team wrote on their development blog, with players rewarded for completing each playable level of the single-player campaign at Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulties.

Completing all the maps on the Legendary setting will also net you a "Legend" achievement, and, as a corollary, killing a Legend over the Internet is also worth an achievement. Another slightly mad offering is "Demon", for which you'll need to complete an entire campaign level without dying.

Hired Gun says it had three goals with its range of achievements: to "keep the game fun, encourage beginners to join our Halo 2 community, and provide a new challenge with a few tough or interesting achievements for our most dedicated fans".

As such, it won't all be "finish this" and "obliterate that". Although "obliterate" is a good word. "Remember the first time you applied sticky grenade to Elite ass, and the ensuing cries of doomed anguish? Yeah, that's a moment to cherish, and it's not bad being able to point to a specific record of it," the blog notes.

"Or how about the first time you finally wielded the sword and started dominating for like 10 seconds? We want to encourage our expanded audience of PC players to enjoy these first moments in Halo 2 for Windows Vista with a few easy achievements in the game.

"For pro-style Halo enthusiasts, you'll see the familiar achievement indicator going off like you won a prize or something. Fear not, though: perfection will be a tall order."

For more on what to expect (including a few of the icons you'll see - hold us), check out the rest of the Hired Gun blog. Halo 2, along with "Games for Windows - LIVE", is out on Windows Vista from 18th May.

Is anyone actually looking forward to this on the PC?

If you ask me, Halo 1 & 2 just do not 'work' on the PC platform because the Halo series are adapted and developed as a console FPS.

Let me begin the flaming of this thread by saying Halo was never my cup of tea.

    And so it begins......

How about a "Runs successfully on XP" achievement?

Cloudane, H1 does work as an FPS on the PC, albeit a very mediocre one. And as you said, Halo was adapted to consoles; the original was supposed to run on Mac and PC.

Tejstar I can imagine people who already got H2 for the Xbox re-buy it for PC just for the achievements.

I think this may have been reasonably successful in multiplayer on the pc if it didn't need vista to run.

People with a machine a few years old may have bought it, but If you've spent the money on upgrading your pc to the point where it can run games under vista really well, who the fucks going to be bothering with this?

I thought H1 was pretty good on the PC. The multiplayer was excellent, except for the fact that all the good players were playing UT or Half Life (and mods) so everyone playing it sucked.

The Legend Killer achievement sounds quite fun. We'll probably see that in a few games in future.

Halo 1 was okay on the PC, but simply not up to the standard set by its contemporary PC FPS games.

Graphics were average, the weapons were uninspired, the Library level and the back-tracking towards the end were tedious in the extreme, and I for one absolutely hated the physics they applied to the Warthog. As you can probably guess, I'm not too fussed that Halo 2 is Vista-only and I won't be able to play it...

This is only interesting in that it provides an idea of what the Halo 3 achievements might be like...

The should have released it as a budget title. For XP ofcourse. Halo2 is like a 38 year-old woman, trying to hide its age. For 15-20 pounds I'd buy it. Like I did with Halo. And was really dissappointed.

I already have Halo 2 in lovely HD, Microsoft's move to make the PC version Vista only is a tawdry attempt at market manipulation and I can't see it working out for them.

Halo 1 didn't seem to suit a mouse and keyboard. It was so well implimented on the Xbox game pad in terms of acceleration and auto aiming but this didn't appear on the PC version even when using a pad. Pity - still more fun than PC bigshots like HL2 in terms of gameplay IMHO.

Are you guys kidding? The port of Halo by Gearbox was absolutely awful! Particularly if you had an nVidia card at the time. Dreadful it was, considering it was out so long after the Xbox version.

Unreal was more fun than Halo.
  • Bursk #15 5 years ago

Yeah, who gives a flying fuck?! These twats can suck a fart out of my arse.

I must be the only living person in the world who loves the library level in Halo. It's a lonely life.
  • ArcMonkey #17 5 years ago

Svecke you freak of nature! At least you should have kept it to yourself. Now you won't have any friends!
