Haddaway, Nutini, Tunstall for Lips News

Xbox 360 News by Oli Welsh

19 December, 2008

Microsoft will be drip-feeding 14 new songs for its karaoke contender Lips onto Xbox Live Arcade over the course of the "holiday season", starting today.

It's a mix of classics (Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It", The Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go"), nineties cheese (Bobby Brown, "What Is Love?" by Haddaway), things off the Radio 2 playlist by Paolo Nutini and KT Tunstall, and completely the wrong songs by Men At Work and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Here's what goes up today:

  • Over My Head (Cable Car) - The Fray
  • Every Little Step - Bobby Brown
  • Prisoner of Society - The Living End
  • Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai

Then on Boxing Day:

  • New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
  • What's Love Got To Do With It - Tina Turner
  • What Is Love? - Haddaway

The list for January 2nd:

  • Where Did Our Love Go - The Supremes
  • Let's Groove - Earth, Wind and Fire
  • Be Good Johnny - Men At Work
  • Somethin' Stupid - Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman

And January 9th:

  • Superstar - Jamelia
  • People are People - Depeche Mode
  • Suddenly I See - KT Tunstall

Well I dunno about you, but I don't think that list is all that impressive.

They should get some Frightened Rabbit up, much better jocks than KT Tunstall & Paulo Nutini. Not sure how well it would work on a karaoke game though, but still, better than what’s gone before.

This for America or Europe? A couple of these songs are already on the UK disk.

If MS could keep this type of release frequency of DLC for Lips then i could see myself getting interested. At the moment it's still a little limited. (yes i know you can import your own music, just not the same without the words etc...)

/ I have a feeling Singstar Abba is going to be in the tray a lot over Christmas

Microsoft have chosen strangely similar songs to those available on Singstar.

was gonna say, I'm sure that JK song is on the disc already in the UK...

pitiful Xmas song list if that was all we're going to get. Ah well... guess I'll go back to streaming from my ipod and getting generalised points :-(

Let's Groove is clearly Earth, Wind & Fire's best song. Clearly.

I imagine the reason for the crossover in Singstar songs is due to ease of licensing. Maybe these are the quickest ones to get on (even though Singstar doesn't have People are People the bastards!), it'll take a while before theres any Wings...

Be Good Johnny - Men At Work? You mean they did something other than Land Down Under?

@Oli: I figured it had been the Christmas party last night by the absolute lack of updates this morning :D Having a nice hangover?

Do you need to be half canned when you sing the Paolo Nutini songs!?

@YobRenoops You must mean excluding "Mull Of Kintyre" by Wings which is coming next Monday apparently.

that "What is Love" song aside, I gotta say that I regret not taking my mates advice and waiting for better DLC to come out....

@migasUK

I think it depends on the region of the disc. Some songs that aren't on the game disc in your region are available on the store. I think.
