Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns confirmed

Out on Wii this summer. Vid and pics.

SEGA has confirmed that it plans to release Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns Arcade on Wii.

The press release on the SEGA blog said to expect it in summer 2010.

We already know a bit about what to expect courtesy of a helpful ESRB listing, which detailed the lightgun-style antics with which older arcade-goers will remember well.

The Wii adaptation will also introduce new elements like a Chain Combo System and Unlockable Weapon Toggle for activating hidden abilities like wide shot, rapid fire and heavy shot.

Looks rubbish. Surely Sega could have done a graphical overhaul, and given players the choice of playing in crappy 'classic' graphics or reworked ones.

"older arcade-goers"? They're only about 10 years old, it's not like we're talking the stuff in that Xbox game room.

And ruin that classic Sega Model 2 and 3 90s arcade look? Piffle.

It's on the Wii. You expected better graphics than this?

Wow, it didn't look like that in my memory when this story was first announced.

However, I'm sort of glad they haven't changed the graphics. It's more than nostalgia, this era has a chunky charm and conistency in how everything is rendered that appeals a lot more than awkward attempts at photo-realism.

I want this. Love that the left the graphics alone. The 'Virtua Cop' era of SEGA arcade games have such a chunky, bold visual style. I'm glad that SEGA decided to keep this aesthetic intact and add to the gameplay instead. However, I don't know whether it will be as satisfying without the mounted machine gun. That thing was awesome.

Never heard of these titles before (never really followed arcade releases) but I sure like the graphics. They just really fit the arcade theme.
